Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

IIRC, it wasn’t a journalist who “played the entire campaign,” but a member of CIG’s QA team.
Oh well, I was wondering how they got some third party guy to stick his neck out for them.
Is the QA guy teh only one who ever came out saying he's played SQ42? IS yes then Chris Roberts must really like him.
Gold Armor.

I like the wording of this
"...you may earn membership and levels within Concierge,"
makes it sound like lottery.

There was that journalis who played the entire campaign?

One of these days we might see CIG doing another poll if people want to ditch SQ42 or not. Anyone want to bet on the result?

Just a thought. Has any glimpse of actual in-game SQ404 gameplay been shown?

Or, to put the question another way, is there any actual evidence of it existing?
There are some leaks from the old version around 2016 back when it was being made by contractors and was a very different thing. But Squadron 54 has just appeared as assets, cinematics, and vertical slices, none of which require a game to actually exist. The first thing that gets released for a modern game before development begins is the gameplay trailer.

Just curious. Not bothered. Which sums up my feelings overall tbh.

..Well they've had a pre-order page since 2016 charging full-wack for something complete with "PC requirements" isn't that evidence enough? Ho ho, I'm quite sure that putting a pre-order page up for 7 years and charging full-wack for a product that didn't exist or have any sure plan for release would surely be illegal no? Imagine if you did that on, say, Amazon or ebay - you'd get into some trouble or something..pretty scammy...not CIG..no..those guys are pro.

Surely, this is proof enough. Buy a modding manual and ask no more questions!

The main point was really that justifying switching games based on tiling is a bit silly.

Not to derail the thread but no one has said tiling does not occur also in Elite. The "mitigation" in Elite is that by and large it is something fairly unnoticeable in the vast majority of planets (I can offer my anecdotal testimony, as I have only realized it once or twice, fwiw), and we are talking billions. Suspension of disbelief in Elite is much easier imo.

In SC on the other hand you are literally stuck with just a handful of planets where you can see it more often than not without much effort. Once you know where it is, and there is only a handful of planets that you can go to, there is no unseeing it. Justifying switching games based on that sounds also a bit ridiculous.
Gotcha. Though I'd say trading tiling procgen galaxy versus a handful unfinished planets is even more silly.

I fondly remember the alleged SQ42 script leak from yonks ago. It may have been real. It may have been a complete fabrication. Either way, it was unutterably awful.

Also who can forget the delights of the Morrow Tour! Even though Genuine Roberts himself has told us to forget all about it - we've seen nothing yet! And of course, we have seen nothing.

There was this "vertical slice" video, I seem to recall they were promising to show it in the summer (the usual CIG "two weeks") but even this was 6 months late. And, like everything they actually deliver, the reality was very much "seriously? that's it?" It's basically an hour of walking/flying through some environments, some cringe cutscenes, some basic space pew pew and then a showcase of their absolute lack of FPS AI.

It was obvious from the delays that they cobbled it together specifically to fulfill their promise to show a vertical slice, so whether it counts as "in game" is questionable, and in any case it's 5 years old so no doubt they've started over multiple times since then, in case you were concerned about how bad a lot of it looks (some of it looks ok).

I have a small question on this thread, If the developers are going to have an opportunity to put more content into this Alpha demo SC game, they have to delete something else then right ?

From my summary of SQ42 news during six months in 2020:
  • We have a new SQ42 video coming tomorrow!
  • We've pulled the video for editorial reasons
  • many months pass
  • Here is our video!!! The Briefing Room: Episode One! Episode One people!
  • We've delayed the SQ42 beta, for at least a year
  • We've cancelled The Briefing Room and won't publicly show SQ42 anymore
  • Please pledge

One of these days we might see CIG doing another poll if people want to ditch SQ42 or not. Anyone want to bet on the result?

If CIG pitched it right, and say, for example, only left the poll up for 24 hours, so only the most dedicated followers would see it, i'm sure they'd get the community to vote to ditch it. And then afterwards, anyone complaining would be hit with "The community voted to ditch it, you can't blame CIG!"

Just like with the polls to keep increasing the scope, because CR told the backers it wouldn't signficantly delay release (LOL) and with more money they could hire more devs to deliver stuff quicker (LOL), although with the second vote, it was a much closer run thing, with only 55% voting yes, the rest probably realizing what a load of twaddle CR was spouting.

And of course, ever since those votes, every time someone suggests CIG should have focused on delivering the original promises, they are hit with "the community voted for it", like its a trump card being played.

Well, the part of the "community" that voted for the expanded scope were gullible idiots.

Still, i don't think CR would want that vote, because i think for him, SQ42 is the real magnum opus. He gets to play movie director again, and SC is probably more of a means to an end (working on SQ42).

The poll to expand or finish the PU was decided on the votes of less than 10% of backers, most of us didn't care or didn't know about the poll until the cultists started using the distorted result taken from it much later as an excuse for the endless feature creep...

So...55% of 10% ain't really a whole lotta folk :)
