For you, what is the new thargoid variant ?

“Look man ! I only need to know one thing: where they are.”

Is it my eyes, or does the little guy have twin electro beams? Coupled with its speed is the chap the equivalent of an iCourier: fast, punchy (relying on speed and disruption) but ultimately bendy as hell?
Looks like standard Thargoid lightning on top of its cannon(which looks like an interceptor gun but with slower fire rate and higher pitched firing sound). To me, anyway. But those few glimpses that were caught aren’t likely to be too indicative of how it will behave overall, or its characteristics.

Other than that it appears to be quite screechy of a Thargoid.

I doubt they are going to fully reveal a new Thargoid (at least, the entire Thargoid) I'm guessing this is a smaller part of something bigger. Maybe a mother ship swarm? Obviously we only see one, but maybe a mother ship would release 2-3 at a time.

Pretty sure that first screencap is the Krait firing its weapons at the ninja star/shuriken Thargoid. The second… well, anyone who’s ever dealt with a cranky Thargoid will know. I wonder more if its lightning attack also has a specific trigger like that of the interceptors or not.
Yep but the weapons of the krait shoot in red so... no on the first screenshot, these are indeed the yellow lightning bolts of the thargoid.

I don’t think there is any weapon fire in the first screenshot at all… I also meant the one where the Krait fires, which is of course the second.

Bear with me for it being morning. I’m not a morning person, and I refuse the substance that is known as coffee.

I understand, besides, I'm not very good in English so...

To me, that new thargoid ship is obviously a space superiority fighter. I feel it's the Thargoid equivalent of a Chieften (or the F15 when that was first deployed).

I suspect, they'll be used to defend the Orthrus (Othri ? ), in new scenarios we've not seen yet, or they'll be new ships that interdict us in Occupied or Invaded systems. Yes, I'm hoping for something big this update, so I'm hoping we get through the Maelstrom cloud and see the 'Titan?'

Sticking with the greek theme, I'd call it after one of the Furies; -
  1. Alecto (anger)
  2. Megaera (jealousy)
  3. Tisiphone (avenger)
But we'll have to wait and see.

So I had this thought - remember that “What in the F is that?” message we found in the wreckage of a ship in Ankaa when Tanner sent us searching for traces of Seo’s whereabouts?

In light of this Thargoid reveal - while we’re obviously yet only aware of it as the player - I have a suspicion that it was one of those things showing up. Their starkly different appearance is certainly enough from any other Thargoid to get that reaction out of an unsuspecting pilot.

Absolutely, it reminds me that there is also a huge narrative blur on what happened at that time.

It's either:
  1. A Thargoid messenger. A ship sent by the thargoids to discuss how humans and thargoids can discover the mysteries of the universe together. By careful research and investigative play, communication with this ship can be established resulting in a rich plot with associated gameplay to include trade of materials and information and continuation of the original lore.
  2. cannon fodder.
As ED is basically a shoot-em-up with the depth of an episode of Bod, I'm betting it's 2, but happy to be proved wrong.
