Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

This is odd. Yours runs a lot cooler on Idle and Trust, but mine is cooler on WEP.

I am suspicious about how reliable EDSY heat indication is.
My Clipper does genuinely cruise on thrusters in the 16% to 18% heat range, though.
I would have thought the Challenger could have come down to this sort of heat, as the regular Clipper isn't actually very good at heat management.

So here it is FINALLY all finished for unlocking the caustic sink launcher:

Do you have a Krait MKII or Clipper, and are you willing to engineer some human hull reinforcements and a low emissions power plant?
Yeah, I do. My Clipper is set up for mining, but I've never actually mined in it, or done much of anything in it. I could perhaps duplicate your build, or something close to it.

Think, think.

Or I could buy a new Krait. I have 2 already, heh.

...was at the point of unbearable frustration just last week - then decided to just go on a trip into a maelstrom with a much more AX-experienced friend - and had one of my best hours in this game ever.

It was a "spoiler" experience in a way, though not so much after the videos I'd already seen around and about - but really, all the previews did nothing to detract from the sheer wow of being there in-game for the first time - and, like "getting there" ahead of time, did nothing to discourage and everything to inspire interest in getting back to the game challenges, in order to be able to make the journey to the Titan by myself :]
I liked you're video, very cool. (y)

A core mining Clipper could run on a grade 5 low emissions 6A power plant. So it would do both core mining and Maelstrom material farming and exploration very well.

Yeah, I think I will strip the Clipper and do a new loadout for it. I've always wanted an actual use for the ship :p

I have some of the stuff in storage or on other ships, but not everything. Plus I have to get back to the bubble.

It'll be a new challenge for me.

Got into the maelstrom no issues this time, but I have no idea what I'm looking for. I stopped at one combat aftermath spot but nothing was there. Got interdicted after that but outran the scouts with ease.

Started to head towards another signal source about 6000 LS away and:

Interdicted - outran
Interdicted - outran
Interdicted - outran
Interdicted - outran
Interdicted - frustrated as hell, so jumped out of the system back to the carrier.

The Maelstrom appears on the Nav Panel like a space station or moon would. If all you see is "unexplored" in the Nav Panel, it's the usual drill with the FSS. Scan all the planets and the Maelstrom will appear. Another clue s, they are all orbiting an Ammonia world. So look for the Ammonia world signal on the FSS and scan that.

Note that while the exit supercruise notification normally pops up as you go below 1mn distance to go, you need to get within around 500km for the notification to appear for a Maelstrom. When you're close enough you see this cloud in space appear.
It is common to be interdicted very close to the Maelstrom. I've gone back into supercruise when only 600km from the Maelstrom many times.

Tip - don't plot a route back to the carrier until you have left the Maelstrom. That way with the Maelstrom targeted you can face directly away from it and keep boosting to get the fastest route out of the Maelstrom and away from the very, very large mass lock zone... while the last 25% of your hull is melting.

Focus on just collecting caustic shards that float randomly around on one/few trips to get 20+ units. Next trip, destroy some Caustic Generators to get the parts they drop (Corrosive Mechanisms 10, Propulsion Elements 5). This will usually attract Interceptors. Now make trips to get Caustic Tissue samples. One per trip, or two if you are getting good at it and store them on the carrier. Then get the Caustic Sink Launcher from a rescue ship. Then go back to the Maelstrom to smack into the wave thing 5 times by trying to get to the centre. Once you have done that you need 5 Thargoid sensor fragments. Then get 3 Guardian Relics plus a Thargoid Sensor or probe and take to the the Thargoid Surface Site (which is a wrecked Titan from years ago) where you can turn them nto Unclassified Relics. This is a task best done in a Phantom / Asp X / DBX with a corrosion resistant cargo rack (for the 1t Thargoid Sensor) as you cannot land a Clipper very close to the Guardian Ruins or Thargoid Surface Site.
Finally you can head to a Rescue Ship and unlock the TG Pulse Neutraliser. Then you can get to the centre of the Maelstrom and look at the Titan, and, collect even more materials from it's surface and orifices which might be useful one day. Nobody knows....

First attempt into the maelstrom, interdicted and barely escaped. Back to the carrier for repairs.

You got out the first time? Well done 👏

...this week I will be doing my 4th & 5th suicide runs to get enough caustic firework whatsitsname data Massive Energy Surge Analytics for my very own massive energy-surge resistant umbrella Thargoid Pulse Neutraliser :]

I liked you're video, very cool. (y)

Thank you! ...have been getting quite excited about this one, beginning with the trip into the beast's backyard itself - spent today pairing a slightly trimmed cutdown with planned music, towards a proper edit/cinematic - in progress now...

in fact, mebbe my next trip into hell can wait a bit - it's quite safe & warm here in the edit suite and i'm enjoying the music and views of the Titan from the couch :D

*just uploading now - should be there in time for breakfast...^

Well if you can be online in game time 07:00 to 08:00 or 17:00 to 17:45 Monday to Friday I can probably get you a seat in a Clipper.
Thanks for the offer, but I fear it will still take some time until I will be able to get the new computer* set up and running - have to redo my room first... I sure hope these titans are still there when I'm finally able to run ED:O...

There were some incredible shots in there -- I guess there's 2 of you? Are you flying the Corvette, or doing the filming? If you're doing both you're not human. :)

That Corvette seemed pretty darned sturdy, too. What's the build on that thing?

Yes, he was the copilot, you could tell when he switched to interior view by his HUD and you could see the pilot in front and to the left. That vett took a heck of a pounding, I noticed he had a bunch of cell banks.

I finished unlocking the caustic sink launcher, and thargoid pulse neutralizer... But I hated how frustrating it was to get them unlocked so much, that I despise any Thargoid activites now. Constant interdictions, infinitely spawning goids anywhere I go. I realize probably noone will agree but I wish the difficulty was turned down just a bit, at least in some areas. I mean you can go to a conflict zone (low) but there's no such thing with goid activities. Sucks too, because I actually like the station reactivation missions if only the enemies didn't respawn infinitely, basically forcing you to run on foot up to a kilometer in and out of the settlement in order to do the mission. Sure you can drive the SRV, but for me it gets destroyed 100% of the time when I go more the 10 feet away from guarding it.
