Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm afraid all this maelstrom business sounds too much like hard work for me. Think I'll be skipping it for now.
I cannot help but laugh when someone who enjoys engaging in the 'hard work' of suit and gun engineering views preparing to enter the Maelstrom as hard work :ROFLMAO:

I enjoy the process of Maelstrom preparation/farming as it's something new to do with a space ship, and I'm here for the space ships. And it was something that the Clipper works very well at. I love the Clipper, but its large platform requirement rules it out of so many possible uses. It's great to have a good use for it.

I think I've fought in 2 or maybe 3 ground CZs ever. I will do a couple more while on holiday in Colonia. Quain is on his way there now.

Well, one man's work is another man's play, I s'pose :D

I realize probably noone will agree but I wish the difficulty was turned down just a bit, at least in some areas.
To me, it's the ridiculous amount of interdictions.

I can take the fights, and I'll fight as many of them as they send at me, but the senseless interdiction after interdiction after interdiction is just annoying as hell. It doesn't add anything to the game but frustration. Those should be cut in half at least.

Seriously. Interdicted 5 times in less than 8 minutes? That's not a fun and engaging mechanic. That's just stupidity squared frustration.

If you create something that people don't want to do because of the sheer frustration of it all, you're doing it wrong.

There were some incredible shots in there -- I guess there's 2 of you? Are you flying the Corvette, or doing the filming? If you're doing both you're not human. :)

Yes, he was the copilot, you could tell when he switched to interior view by his HUD and you could see the pilot in front and to the left. That vett took a heck of a pounding, I noticed he had a bunch of cell banks.

Yep, i was in the crew seat doing the photography - Xernoxious flew the mission in his Corvette. I’ve shot my own ships (with camera^) with simpler setups for exploration, but it’s very difficult to record external footage of a fast moving battle scene well solo - one can kind of get action cover, but with a fixed camera from your ship’s point of view only really.

So to get better footage of a couple of AX battles, i’ve recorded with external cam from X’s ship - he is quite an experienced/accomplished AX pilot as well, whereas i’ve only dipped into AX as far as potting scouts really - if you look carefully, you’ll see that he flies the corvette FA-Off with keyboard controls - he has very good / precise flying skills, whereas I tend to be a bit of a free-rambling HOTAS hack :D

Here’s another clip we made some time ago, the last few minutes of a solo Hydra battle:

…there’s also a full Medusa solo hunt, though this was uploaded in three parts, due to only having 1Mbit/sec upload speed at the time ;p

Xernoxious vs Medusa 03 CLIP-1 [REC]
Xernoxious vs Medusa 03 CLIP-2 [REC]
Xernoxious vs Medusa 03 CLIP-3 [REC]

That Corvette seemed pretty darned sturdy, too. What's the build on that thing?

I'll ask Xernoxious to post a build and link it here later... :]

Every time I think I've got my crap together, I realize I forgot something. Now I'm off to engineer my heat sinks.
That's my way of building my ships in a nutshell... 😅
Interdicted 5 times in less than 8 minutes
Had something similar happen on a courier run, some time ago...
Though, three of them created a quite long interdiction flow...
(I usually evade interdictions.)

Second attempt: made it in unscathed.

Set course for the maelstrom that was bout 5,600 LS away.

Interdicted - outran

Two seconds later, interdicted - outran.

5 seconds after that, interdicted - outran.

3 seconds after that, interdicted - outran.

Never made it 250 LS. Gave up. Screw it. It's completely not worth the aggrevation.

First attempt today: interdicted in jump. Barely escaped with 54% hull left and it took every heatsink I had.

539 boost speed and I couldn't outrun him.

Beware the Baselisk… they are fast. ;]
Possibly one of the new Thargoids, the Glaive, extremely fast but killable allegedly. To outrun them you need something close to a racing build, but again it is claimed that running cold can help.

Only encountered them inside the Maelstrom, launched from the Titan so far - but i presume their Hunter class means they will be venturing further out & about…^

The Maelstrom for Taranis is the closest to the arrival star of all of them. About 131ls away. Max. 2 interdictions to get there.

Apparently they are showing up in Thargoid controlled systems to the deep joy of somebody or other.

Been away for a few months... sensing some maelstroms might maybe have arrived?
Only eight so far but it is early days.

The eight are causing some interesting times for those remaining in the bubble.

I made it back to the bubble.

I stripped most of the stuff off of the Clipper, and started refitting it.

I don't have all the stuffs, so it will take a bit of time to get everything in order.
