I think they chose the Bengal Tiger over Sumatran is that the Bengal tiger has a lot more cool gene mutations.

I think they did it because they were trying to appeal to pop culture rather than realism, and the Bengal tiger as the pop-culture "Indian Tiger" makes more marketable sense. Plus it was the tiger of Zoo Tycoon.
If they'd included the Sumatran from the start instead of the Bengal, I don't think this discussion would even exist, honestly.
I agree, I think the Bengal tiger is the prototype of tiger that most people have in mind. Personally, when I was a kid and learning the animals, I just learned Bengal tiger as a compound name, not even knowing that Bengal was a place in the world and that there were other kind of tigers. So I learned the lion, the giraffe, the zebra, the Bengal tiger, the polar bear, the brown bear, the leopard... I don't know why I was taught like that, but I can image I wasn't the only one.
If we have the Sumatran from the start instead of the Bengal, I would be equally opposed to the Bengal being added now as I am to the Sumatran being added now. Indeed, I would actually have preferred we got the Sumatran from the start but, given that we already have the Bengal, another subspecies would be a waste.
Those aren't bengal tigers though, they are the product of a looot of gene mixing, inbreeding and subspecies hybridizing.
Isnt that actually the reality? Like alot of zoos dont have real pure tigers. A lot of tigers in captivity are from bloodline that have been i captivity for a long time and you cant really tell anymore whats in there.
Wouldnt surprise me if like 90% of tigers in zoos are hybrids to same degree

I don't know. That is just what I think.
I'd rather see more unique rigs in the game first that represent types of animals missing (porcupine, rabbit/hare, duck, fish, etc.) over a re-skin of an already existing animal where someone could just use mods to get. Support will eventually end and the more unique rigs we have the more modders will have to work with to bring us new animals.

Considering that the Sumatran is the last survivor of the island type of tigers (all others are extinct) yes, I definitely want them added in game. Even if its nothing more than a different pattern I'd like them to represented in game somehow.
Litterally the red deer which we got last year. And tge Dromedary I'm betting would be good for this year.
And we have 5 panthers, and 11 felines.
I wouldn’t be mad with another tiger but there are plenty of other animals I want more than them. If we got another one though I would want the Sumatran Tiger.
I've seen you mention this idea around a bunch of different animals. I'm not sure I get what you mean.
Are you suggesting that they add separate subspecies as simple random variants? Because that would just lead to a ridiculously unrealistic mixed habitat. Plus, Sumatran tigers are considerably smaller than either the Bengal or Siberian tiger.
I hate this Suggestion so much to just add them as Variants. It just doesn't make any SenseAnd when you think of it all those Panthers are more closely related to each other than any of the 3 Rhinos we have. So in a way a Snow Leopard is more of a clone to a Lion than Black Rhino is to White. Putting it out there just for perspective, I wouldn't mind the Sumatran Tiger as an Anniversary Gift.
I still do not think and also hope we get a third Tiger. But of course, If it should be for anniversary that is okay. As free animal I Take everything. But if we should ever get another Panthera I think it could be the Asiatic Lion. I know it is only a subpopulation of the current Lion but IRL Zoos often label it as Asiatic Lion. This would be also the Chance to improve the actual Model as it was done with the Bactrian Camel (at least or Looks improved to me). But honestly, I also do not really Wish for an Asiatic Lion. There are so more small Cats which I really wish we would get.
True, but the original genes for melanistic white tigers came from the Bengal Tiger subspecie. The Bengal Tiger was the only original white tiger to be found in the wild.
The reason for all the hybrids is the pop culture instilled in people's minds that siberian tigers are white because they could "camouflage with snow" as an "adaptation." Thus already inbred white Bengal tigers were bred with Siberian tiger stock to bring some fresh genetics and also to label the offspring "Siberian" satisfying public tastes.
This resulted in disability issues including white tigers now being seriously cross-eyed due to Bengal DNA for melanism being mixed with Siberian genes that didn't naturally have that mutation. It's all so messed up.
