Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

Would people be unhappy if we got two bears in a row?

Fall: Deciduous Forest Pack: Tasmanian Devil, Wild Boar, American Black Bear, Pudu or Reeve's Muntjac or some other deer, Asian Pheasants in a WE with cabin/hunting lodge scenery, some autumn themed trees, and maybe a bit of campsite stuff?

Winter: Alpine Animal Pack: Spectacled Bear, Markhor, Takin, Hamadryas Baboon, Wolverine, Pallas's Cat, (Guanaco, marmot, chamois, or bighorn sheep) Eagle(s) in a WE

Spring (if not sooner): Amazon animal pack? Hopefully with plenty of monkeys and macaws?

I personally wouldn't be unhappy but I think many people would be. The American Black Bear gets a lot of criticism just mentioning it period, and I imagine if we got two bears in a row the second bear, whichever it would be, would get a lot of backlash. The Spectacled Bear alone gets some criticism but much lighter and more comments appear open to it. I think it would be accepted overall if it were the first of the two but not so much the second.

Pheasants would almost certainly be habitat animals, especially since they'd use the peafowl rig. That being said, yeah, I do expect forests and mountains to be coming up.

Ok so here's the shallowest amount of work.

I collected "data" from these two speculation threads:

Base for this is still DLC continuation theory, I believe authored by @missconception, may I be corrected. It's the idea that DLCs from this year fully or partially continue on the DLCs from 2021 (SEA/Tropical, Africa/Arid)

So IF this theory stands, IF, we could expect a scenery pack (or animal you never know with their schedules) that would align itself with either or both North America Animal Pack and Europe Pack. Furthermore, 2023 packs saw a couple of inclusions that were more popular in 2021 than in 2023.

That somewhat makes sense if we assume that one DLC is being worked on long before famous "three months" period. SEA, Africa, Europe and Capybara leaks somewhat confirm that. That then means that if our wishes have chance of making it into the next pack, it would be way more likely that it's the wishes from last year or year before

Before America

A bit of a longer intro I'll get straight to the point, most mentioned NA animals before NA pack that we still haven't gotten:

-Wolverine VII
-Musk Ox V
-Collared Peccary IV
-Walrus II
-Snapping Turtle II
-NA Porcupine
-Coyote (both once)

Roman numerals on side count how many times each animal was mentioned as wish or a prediction on threads, note that the precision is far from perfect

Notes about the thread:
-Noticeable presence of doom and gloom about the late support, accompanied with late announcement
-A lot of Raccoon mentioning that we didn't get in NA pack, but we got in Twillight, a year later, maybe again indicative of time between popularity of wish and it's inclusion
-A lot of NA animals correctly guessed and lot of wishes included in pack

Before Europe:

European animals we haven't got yet

-Wolverine VII
-Musk Ox V

-Wild Boar V
-Pelican II
-Marmot II
-Mouflon (from Mouflon onwards every animal mentioned once)
-Pine Marten
-Eurasian Otter
-Wisent

Bonus asian animals wished and predicted:
-Musk Deer II
-Raccoon Dog II
-Saiga II

One note from European thread:

I took liberties and copied several wishlists from @nutrit and @jcp011c that were located in first few pages of the thread. I just wanted to show you how much we got since in then, not at once, but spread out several incoming packs. That there were whole wishlists back then that we as of today have almost completed

nutrit:

Capybara - aquatic rodent, most wanted and SA
Lar gibbon - brachiation and primate
Maned wolf - unique canine high on the list and SA
Fossa - cat-like very unique mammal from Madagascar also high on the list
Red River hog - very interesting and brightly colored ungulate from the forests of Africa
*Tree kangaroo - amazing large arboreal marsupial
*Caribbean Manatee - first fully aquatic mammal and SA

Another example from jcp011c

forest pack:

Capybara
Amur Leopard
Lar Gibbon
Fossa
Three Toed Sloth
Red River Hog
Asian Small Clawed Otter

desert pack:
Prezwalski's Horse
Maned Wolf
African Crested Porcupine
*Hamadryas Baboon
Dromedary

I don't know, it's nothing special, just wanted to show in a practical example that we are being listened to, and that in time we got a lot of what we asked

So that's it, there's probably not a lot of use this post can bring, but I think it can be a nice mirror to show what can we expect in coming packs whether it be Mountains, Woodlands or something else

Montane Pack

Hamadryas Baboon
Japanese Serow
Spectacled Bear
Markhor
Ex. Chinese Giant Salamander

+ Golden Takin, Wolverine, Himalayan Monal (or) Wild Yak

I would be only okay with two bears if they are the sloth bear and the spectacled bear. The american black bear is a bit too much of a clone for me to take up a slot in a DLC, maybe depending on what the other clone alternative would be id be okay with it, but I would love it as a free anniversary animal.

but american black bear has many colour morphs and is essential to NA

I collected "data" from these two speculation threads:
My absolute must haves from your post are the Manatee, Tree Kangaroo, Wolverine, Musk Ox and Pelican.

The Tree Kangaroo shouldn't be an issue for coding at this point, the Pelican wouldn't fly so it wouldn't be too complex to rig. The Manatee might be the biggest challenge here for frontier, since it would be a new fully aquatic species, but we already have deep diving which works well. The wolverine would require a new rig, slightly altered from the badger. The musk ox could be fitted on to the bison i think.

Of everything, manatees and other fully-aquatic animals are the ones I think everyone should just give up hope on.
I can give up hope on cetaceans or sharks, but Manatees are the one aquatic animal which I will continue to hope for. We had the same doubts for deep diving, burrowing, brachiation and flying, but we got it all in the end.

Ok, another question (that's likely already been answered): do y'all think that the next DLC is an animal pack or a standard DLC?
While the choice would be a standard DLC, we've already seen the pattern broken with the Twilight pack and Grasslands animal pack.

Honestly, it can go either way, because we're 95% sure that the Twilight pack came to be due to the season. But, since we now have scenery regarding that season, we don't need another standard DLC, unless it's for some random theme like a woodlands theme or even, oddly enough, a spring theme, with many blooming flowers and such
I think it is going to be a scenery pack for sure. I know they switched the pattern once and we got 2 scenery packs in row, but I feel like if we would get 2 animal packs then the builders of the community would be left with nothing for half a year, whereas 2 scenery in row does not hurt the animal people as much because we still get some animals with it.

I know they switched the pattern once and we got 2 scenery packs in row
Yeah and I think it's pretty clear they did that to capitalise on the Halloween scenery. Unless they want to switch back to a Christmas theme for December, I don't see why it wouldn't be a scenery pack in the autumn.

Im interested about how despite their popularity tree kangaroos never appear in mountain type packs.
I assume most people dont realize where these actually live. There is even one species living so high it become terrestial again due to lack of many trees.
It would break the mold of mountain pack being just bald rock dwellers made up by carnivorans and goats.

It might be because the two most common captive species (Goodfellow's and Maatschie's) don't live at high altitudes (at least as far as I'm aware). Though it isn't universal, I get the vibe that most people prefer the animals they've actually seen in zoos rather than ones that aren't in captivity at all.

Both of them inhabit montane forests actually - Goodfellow’s formerly also occurred in lowland rainforests but now only inhabits mountainous areas up to 2,900 metres above sea level, whilst Matchie’s has always been endemic to the high mountains of the Huon Peninsula and can live as high as 3,300 metres. The kind of highland environments they inhabit still don’t match the stereotypical perception of what mountains look like though (rocky, snow capped peaks and all that) so I can understand why they’ve been overlooked.

I stand corrected! Even as I typed it I thought I was wrong.

Bears? Unhappy? Honestly I would buy a bears pack but I realise I am probably biased 😅

I'd like to see a "Treetops pack" in the fall as it's a kind of tree-related time, right?? A pack like this would give a whole lot of scope not only for various birds but also arboreal mammals and reptiles. Tree kangaroos, sugar gliders, aye-ayes, monkeys, chameleons, emerald tree boas just to name a few. Problem is I suspect the next pack will be a scenery one and choosing just 4 main animals would be way too hard. Realistically I wouldn't be surprised to see Islands Pack next as I imagine that theme would lend itself well to building pieces.

I think the rest of the year will be

Islands Scenery Pack
  • Tasmanian devil
  • Tree kangaroo
  • Kiwi
  • Lemur, tortoise or bird species
  • Bat for walkthrough or something really wacky for a regular exhibit
Winter is when things get funky. Because there are two themes that very clearly need to happen, and personally I think they both need to be animal packs, those themes being Forests and Mountains. If one of them must be a scenery pack, it should be Mountains. If I was going to lay it out in my ideal way, it would go:

Mountain/Highlands Animals Pack
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Markhor
  • Takin
  • Wolverine
  • Spectacled bear
  • Bighorn sheep
  • Pallas's cat
  • Giant salamander for the exhibit animal seems obvious to me
Forest Animals Pack
  • Howler monkey
  • Tamarin species
  • Coati species
  • Colobus monkey
  • Ocelot
  • Wild boar or peccarry
  • Echidna
  • Anything's possible for the exhibit or WE animal

I wouldnt mind the american black bear and spectacled bear. I can see the first one as an anniversary animal and the second one in a highlands dlc.

@Bearcat9948
Same idea for Islands dlc, but I instead of a bat I can see lorikeets. Instead a lemur or tortoise, I prefferd a temperate penguin like crested or little blue one
