Elite Dangerous 'New Launcher' live today!

Not exactly.
The old launcher was working independently from Steam. This one is not. Which means you need to run a totally unnecessary bloatware in the background.
So it's yet another lost functionality (besides the lack of multi-account support).
I want to say yes it does, but maybe you need to clarify what you mean. I just started the launcher in my Steam folder manually and logged into my second standalone Frontier alt.

Also, the new launcher has the same support (or lack thereof) of multiple accounts as the old one.

I'm not having any problem running this new launcher completely outside steam... (and steam closed ofc)

You mean you don't get the following window if you run the launcher while Steam is not running?

Because this is what I can see unless Steam is already running. In which case it insists that I log in with Steam, every single time:

The old launcher did not have this issue. It was just working 100% of the time, regardless of Steam.

I don't get to see the redeem code page when running the Launcher outside of steam. I get a prompt to log in. Also, I get no "log in with steam" prompt when I launch it from steam, the game just starts.

Is this a thing of pre/post April 2019 purchases? Mine is post.

With all respect, dear Frontiers.

Early in the morning my hardware was quite sufficient to run your ED: Odyssey without any trouble (except for usual bugs). Now without any prior warnings the brand new launcher says I have to install the new OS, and to install the new OS I have to throw away the old hardware and buy new one.

But, of course, I always have choice: either I throw away my PC, or I throw away your ED: Odyssey, I've bought earlier. So I'm completely free to do whatever I want.

I'm afraid, that looks very much like you're wringing my hands to force me to upgrade my hardware. That is, to say the least, not very pleasant of you.

You mean you can just close Steam (like literally exit the Steam app, not just minimizing it) and then start the new launcher (EDLaunch.exe) from Windows without any problems?

My main account was bought on Steam 5-6 years ago but I've been using Frontiers launcher stand alone for a couple of years now. Installed the update, started the new launcher stand alone (with no steam running). I had to enter email, password, and the code they sent in email. Now it works fine even if I've exited the launcher and started it again. Don't see the above problem..

Nice, thanks, so maybe there is still hope.

My problem is that the launcher has never asked for my email and password therefore I never received an email with the code. The only thing the launcher seems to be capable of displaying for me is the message I posted above.

When did you get your steam copy? I bought mine post April 2019, and I also never got to see a login page, the game always just launched from Steam. Only thing I can think of is if the link to your steam account is messed up and you might need to re-link it to your Frontier account. You must have a Frontier account, even if you never needed it to log in via steam.

This is probably a very niche issue, but the new launcher means that Elite no longer works with Steam Link.

Previously, once you connected, although the launcher window took up the whole screen (ie. how your cursor cannot leave the launcher window without tabbing out) you could still launch Elite and then play normally.

Now, the window is either very zoomed in, or completely blank, and completely non-interactable. If you have the game running, connect, then close the game to return to the launcher, it may appear but is similarly non-interactive. In some cases the connection hangs, though everything is fine on the host PC.

If you can - usually by tabbing back and forwards - get the launcher window to appear, it doesn't update visually (eg. what I see when connected via Steam is not what I see if I wander over to the PC running it)

The only similar behaviour I've seen when using Steam Link is if you accidentally open something like task manager, or a UAC prompt pops up, where those items are also non-iteractable (presumably for some kind of admin reasons)

Are you, by any chance, trying to start EDLaunch.exe with the /steam flag?
If this is the case try removing the flag and check if this solves your issue.
