Elite Dangerous 'New Launcher' live today!

You mean you don't get the following window if you run the launcher while Steam is not running?

Because this is what I can see unless Steam is already running. In which case it insists that I log in with Steam, every single time:

The old launcher did not have this issue. It was just working 100% of the time, regardless of Steam.

No such screens for me.

The important part is to log into the launcher with the email and password of your Frontier account, and NOT with the credentials of your Steam linked account.

This happened exactly the same with the old launcher, btw...

With all respect, dear Frontiers.

Early in the morning my hardware was quite sufficient to run your ED: Odyssey without any trouble (except for usual bugs). Now without any prior warnings the brand new launcher says I have to install the new OS, and to install the new OS I have to throw away the old hardware and buy new one.

But, of course, I always have choice: either I throw away my PC, or I throw away your ED: Odyssey, I've bought earlier. So I'm completely free to do whatever I want.

I'm afraid, that looks very much like you're wringing my hands to force me to upgrade my hardware. That is, to say the least, not very pleasant of you.
promting to reinstall os doesnt sound like launcher issue on fdev side. could we get some pictures?

COMMANDERS USING THE FRONTIER STANDALONE LAUNCHER:

Are any of you experiencing this currently please?
Missing content on scroll down.

Many thanks.
Yup, I'm experiencing that - no content below the Odyssey image. What's supposed to be down there?

Also one other question ... I see there's no longer a link to the manual anywhere in the launcher that I can find. Is that deliberate? (has the manual been phased out?).

What happens if you put your game key in? You can view it by right clicking on Elite in your library in Steam, choosing manage, then CD keys.

When did you get your steam copy?

In November 2016 iirc, and once I had figured out that it was totally unnecessary to launch the game from Steam since I could just run the launcher directly, I only used Steam to download the occasional updates.

Only thing I can think of is if the link to your steam account is messed up and you might need to re-link it to your Frontier account. You must have a Frontier account, even if you never needed it to log in via steam.

Thanks, gonna try to figure it out how to do that. 👍

I'm afraid, it's kind of is: the system requirements here say, ED: Odissey should run on Win7 and newer.

From today's morning without any notice it is in fact requiring Win10 or newer.

People say this still works:

Settings->Frontier Links->Tutorials?
The Links are under Frontier links thats right. With the old client I have been able to click on this links for store, elite forum etc. when game has already been launched.
Now when Elite is startet the menu is frozen and I can not select the links until closing game.
Would be nice if links could be clicked when game has startet.

Here are my impressions and thoughts about the new launcher:
  • It seems like not everything is polished - I ran file validation, and it couldn't utilize multithreading; it was processing something for a while, and I thought it had hung up... for a long time, it showed 0.0MB/s.
  • I feel like it launches and closes faster.
  • The reduction of the first and last name is a positive change.
  • On the downside, there's no option to hide the first and last names. This is troublesome for streamers because not everyone wants to share their personal data (please read GDPR or change your lawyer; displaying first and last names serves no purpose and could cause trouble for someone). A useful option for streamers in the game itself could be a mode that mutes copyrighted sounds; maybe add this streamer mode to the launcher to hide personal data?
  • The browser on the first screen seems more modern (the old launcher was based on IE from the 90s :) ... probably why it sometimes worked poorly - images wouldn't display).
  • I can't wait for the browser window to be filled with more interesting content - for now, it's only promotional graphics for Odyssey.
  • If you have a Steam account - after launching, you have to click "log in with Steam" - who designs such nonsense? An entire window for just one button. There's no option for automatic login (like on the Frontier account with the option to remember the login and password). When you log in with a Frontier account, there's no such problem. A tip for the designer - you can always log out and log in again with a different account - that's what the "Login with a different..." is for.
  • The button colors are a downside - they would look better in Frontier's orange :) - perhaps add customization options in the settings.
  • The version selection screen is a downside - all the tiles couldn't fit on one screen, so we get a cut-off orphan?
Overall, the new launcher makes a good impression. It's worth mentioning that the new launcher takes up about 4MB on the disk (the rest is installation files for DLL libraries from MS and probably DX, around 140MB).

The /autorun and /autoquit option do not appear to be working properly from Steam. I run from Steam with the options "/AUTORUN /AUTOQUIT /NOVR". The game auto runs, but the launcher does not show the full launcher page and when you exit from the game the launcher does not auto quit. If you then click on the "Login in with Steam" button, the launcher quits.

How is streamers showing their laucher a GDPR or even a Frontier issue? It is a PEBKAC issue. Every web service you log into displays your name at one point or another; people don't ask google to obfuscate their name because they might be irresponsible enough to show their account page on a stream.

As a matter of interest, is the new launcher capable of supporting multiple accounts and logins?
Yes, that's how I do it - just log out by clicking on your name at the top and click on Logout. Then log in with another account's detail. First time with each will trigger the verification process but won't do it again after that.

Well this is odd. All I get is to download a new variant and then the file is an Unconfirmed 771402.crdownload. So no executable, and does not self install. I must be missing something????

Arhhh, windows defender strikes again. Doesn't like the look of the file type. Downloading now, fingers crossed.
Just click on More Info then Download Anyway :)

Hi Sally updated the Launcher and not seeing any news beneath the Odyssey image and also seeing that there is a new launcher available but can't find a way to update from within the launcher and it is not showing up in "My Downloadable Products"
