First look: THE SCYTHE!!! (New Thargoid ship)

A first look at the NEW THARGOID The Scythe! It's a new Hunter-class ship with a purpose different to anything we've seen before. What do we know about it so far?
  • The Scythe is a new hunter-class vessel arriving in Update 16.
  • It has a very different purpose and behaviour within the ranks of the Thargoid fleet to the Glaive.
  • When you come across the Scythe, learning how it selects its targets is key to understanding its intent as it’s not like any traditional combat vessel that you’ve encountered before.
  • In addition to the number of tools we know the Thargoids have, it has new weapons that make it a very specialised vessel with a singular sinister objective.
What exactly is its purpose? This is what we need to discover :)

I suppose we won't be seeing it in Legacy?

It is not meant as a detrement to the CMDRs involved. Their analysis of the war is brilliant, no question. But you have to concede that the tissue sampling is totally OP, and that the way the war is won is meta gaming, and that it is killing fun and entertaining gameplay. Somebody else put it very well recently; there are those who want to win, and those who want to play the war. The former have the upper hand, because they have a completely overpowered tool at their hands. Look at the active war threads, and it's all "samples delivered". I maintain: Winning by tissue sampling is lame.

Again: What they do is brilliant and a lot of work; but it is at the cost of gameplay. It is done by meta gaming. It is very well done, but it is still meta gaming.
I agree, but again, this is Fdev responsibility which tools are there, in the game. It seems to me that they are falling behind the players, instead of the other way around. Of course, they cannot now say that tissue sampling was their oversight, so "forgive us for taking it out of the game now." No, they won't say that, but they will introduce some new cabbage into the game, whose purpose will be to interfere with tissue sampling!

You're completely right. But I'm still salty about my planetary CZs disappearing and will probably keep mocking tissue sampling :D.

Soooooo our ship blows up, we eject, is there now a chance of waking up in a different type of port? :p

Or a pot.

If this whole "Thargoids are getting new ships almost at every update" trend doesn't culminate in us getting any new ships, I'd be very upset.
Not needed. Take off the restrictions on AX weapons. A type 10 with every single hardpoint loaded with an AX weapon would be a great start.

That's not fair
We have 38
They had 2 (if you dont count the variants) or 8 (4 scout variants and 4 interceptor variants) till U14

So they have a lot to catch up...
Let us know when we get lightning weapons. 😒

Nope. Its the eleven illegal herbs and spices, meat selection as well as traditional home cooking that make Kumo Burger the best.

Goids? Might as well print your burgers. Even with eight hands they can't get it right.

But still, we got the Spice Girls. Plus some dudes named Herb. And a Drumstick.

And so it is today, check out @kfc on X | ex Twitter, verify and beat that, Xenos! We'll ride on your backs too!

O7,

Your post is crystal clear, as your brain and back of your skull must be :D :D :D ;)
i ironed all the wrinkles on my brain, so its now silky smooth and polished to absolute transparency
(side effect of polishing is that it now demands pierogy...)
:p
I, myself, have been doing only rescue stuff and saw many ppl on Inara doing the same. Also lots of interceptors killed by top players in most systems, acording to Inara. Never heard about method you are talking about.
i myself could have been seen usually in the top10 on inara rankings in the systems where i was active. doing mainly combat and rescues. then i started noticing some weird behavior with how fast the systems were cleared, found out about abusing the scout sampling and got so demotivated i just gave up trying to do anything war related for progress.

Are you aware of the glitched CZs? Getting a NFZ fine is a pain, but it’s still combat.
i appreciate the level of coordination and the grand effort you guys put into progressing the war. i understand that you are just using mechanisms that are available to us. i still see it on par with cheating.
i dont appreciate being pushed aside to glitched systems for someone overusing unbalanced mechanisms...
sadly it kinda boils down to fdevs incompetency in managing the war. (unless this is supposed to be the intended progression of the war. which is... silly...)
again nothing personal. just my personal point of view.

Somewhat similar as to what has happened to anarchies. Seems like they get exterminated and demoted down to 1% with no settlements in many places, while they are actually healthy to have around for game play reasons.. Also not sure why people would want to win the war, but of course if I was part of a PMF that got stomped by the thargoids, I'd take any way I could to evict them.
