Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Nope, you're not alone. My first adventure of this kind - minus the fine, as I was quick enough to get out of harm's way - was on monday. In a Cobra. And it isn't just Coriolis, anything with a toast rack can cause you issues.
I'm now not waiting for the ADC to fail or succeed in getting out of there and start accelerating as soon as the nose of my ship is clear of the airlock.
I hear you. I had said before that I was going to turn it off for launch but I'm just so lazy. I'm going to now though!

To be honest, I think if I'm gonna ditch the ADC one day, I definitely will set the smaller ships to only two pips for engines and max system power. These small buggers are mostly way too twitchy to getting them lined up properly without running out of time...
I refer you to the Buckyballers, racers with incredible skill, who can boost through the slot from any weird angle, smash into the landing pad and have it successfully dock. I've watched them. It is amazing.

In any case, practice makes perfect.

There is a Docking Tutorial in the Training section of the game, cleverly hidden in the Challenge Scenarios part. You can run this anytime from the main menu or your right-hand panel on any ship. It allows you to dock repeatedly without risk.

Knowing how to dock manually is a very good idea (and sometimes is required for certain activities). You'll be glad you learned it.

I'm following Alec on YT, I have seen what they are capable of. Just watching them gives me a mild nervous twitch...

I have tried that tutorial several times, but it didn't help me much - I wish they would have included the possibility to choose different ships for this so-called challenge.

You haven't lived until you've boosted through the slot from the back of the station, I always raise gear and start forward after leaving the pad and angle my way slowly (less than 100 m/s) on exiting. It might have a lot to do with what I learned during violent maneuvering in combat, not sure. 🤷‍♂️

Have you seen that video of someone boosting in and out of the slot, backwards and sideways with FAoff?

They can't possibly match my triple flip surface port landing pad violation!

I got a lot of materials collected shooting pirates, installed a wake scanner, and heading back to get some more raw. Do you remember in The Hobbit (1977) "I LIKES MINES RAW!!" ..

Now a lady up at Pioneer Supplies put the finishing touches on my laser pistola. She said it was now a implement of destruction or something complementary like that. I'm a going to shoot off a tricky piceous cobble formation with that puppy!

You might want (well, maybe...) to join our next race, just as a training excercise. For starters - no docking computers. Default ship is an unegineered Cobra Mk.III with cheap loadout. The catch? Pareco.

Pareco is a system with 6 stations, all on a small orbit around an invisible comet. The race is deceptively simple: start at a given station, then fly and dock at all stations in a given order for 20 minutes. Whoever makes the most landings until either the 20 minutes are up or the ship is destroyed, whatever comes first, wins :devilish:.

If that was an Orca or Beluga, yes...

Setting my not feeling ready for such challenges aside, how can I prove how many landings I managed?

Possibly, a long time back there was one of people doing tumble turns and somersaults through the slot.

The most impressive thing I have managed was in I think my Anaconda though it could have been the Python, anyway I lined up perfectly and sped towards the slot when just before I went through I realised I hadn’t got docking permission.

The brakes weren’t good enough and I shot neatly through the slot to the accompaniment of alarms and warnings and threats.

Fortunately I didn’t do the usual dive off the axis of the slot so just went to full reverse throttle and backed strait out of the station through the slot fast enough not to get turned into a cloud of vapour, once I was out of range and had calmed down I applied for permission and docked without more ado.

In the old days when I joined in you provided screenshots of the docked messages for each station or even a video capture of your whole run.

In a Python.. impressive! (y)

Each race has its own rules. Usually they accept screenshots and/or videos as proof. Whatever's easiest for you.

I remember this one race I entered. It was an SRV race down this huge mountain. You were supposed to rush madly toward the edge and jump, with the aim of not hitting the ground again until you got to the bottom of the mountain (it was quite steep).

I wasn't skilled enough to do it, but I still wanted to finish the race, at least. So I just drove there, slowly, bouncing along in a crazy way because the terrain was extremely uneven.

A race that was supposed to take a few minutes took me an hour and a half. But I did eventually get to the finish line -- in last place, of course. My name looked nice up there on the race board, though.

For proof I submitted a sped-up version of the video I took while driving, which was very hard to watch because of the constant up and down motion. But it was proof. lol.

Do you have a name for your pistol? I vote passionflower. It'll never replace a white shotgun, my father-in-law had one, she had a bun in the oven when we tied the knot. :)

☝️ This. Me on the same boat. Except I ignore the speed warning, I go full throttle once I aligned the mail slot, boost occasionally.

I never used ADC since tutorial.... Real cmdr fly ships by hand lol~!
