1. Grasslands - loved every part of it.
2. Arid - it has brought my most wanted species I’ve never even thought that would be included in the game.
3. SEA - love the animal roster, really don’t like that Clouded leopard and Malayan tapir problem taht was never resolved.
4. Wetlands - great pack but I was not so impressed by most of animal choices, loved all the ungulates and capy though.
5. NA - really boring roster for me personally, I like the beaver but the rest is real meh for me and I never use it.

Oh this is easy:
  1. Wetlands. Gave me the capybara, ASCO, crane, Nile lechwe. Great pack.
  2. Grasslands. My beloved emu, and the wallaby, and the caracal. Great pack.
  3. Arid. No baboon. It would be number one if the Hamadryas baboon had been there.
  4. Southeast Asia. Great selection of animals, however the janky clouded leopard and the obvious tapir issues hurt it a lot.
  5. North America. Boring. Bottom tier.

Finally someone had the nerve to say North American wildlife is boring lol. All the NA players are dying rn.

I don't think NA wildlife is boring in a vaccuum. The pack gave us the sea lion, alligator, and cougar, three animals I'm quite fond of (though the cougar I've never seen in real life), but overall North American wildlife doesn't feature much in Australasian zoos so it just didn't have the same appeal to me.

Yeah that's pretty much my opinion on it. A lot of the picks in it seem like basic animals. In the sense that there's variants of them all over the world but this pack features all the American versions. E.g. crocodillians, cats, foxes, sea lions. I would've prefered they if we got some more unique fauna like peccaries or a wild Turkey. But the pack isn't to bad, just not my taste.

I wonder for what they’ve saved the baboon for coz it’s obviously gonna happen one way or another.
Really like your ranks though

I reckon it’ll be a Gelada in a Mountains/Alpine/Highlands pack. That seems the most likely, as Geladas are one of the most terrestrial monkey species and therefore would not fully utilise the glitchy climbing system that seems to put Frontier off the primates. I know Geladas aren’t ‘true’ baboons, but they fulfil a very similar niche, and are definitely my preferred species of primate!
Another thing I could see happening would be the Hamadryas or Olive Baboon as the anniversary animal. The Olive would be more likely for an anniversary, but the Hamdryas isn’t out of the realms of possibility. Either way, the more primates the better, and a baboon species (or something similar like the Gelada) is REALLY needed in game.
My dream would be to have the Mandrill, Gelada and Hamadryas in game - a great selection of ‘headliner’ African monkeys.

That 2 species would be great.

But for me the old world monkey roster would never be complete without Mantled guereza which would be great for mixed exibits with gorillas and red river hogs and Lion tailed macaque because they are super unique and also we have Indian building set and not even one species of Indian monkey which was always weird for me.

Add to it 2 species from new world (howler and spider) and a long legged ground dweller like Patas monkey from grasslands for diversity and I would be super happy with primates.

7 species that would fulfill monkeys for me:

Baboon - desert/grassland
Gelada - alpine
Guereza - tropical/temperate
Patas - grasslands
Lion tailed macaque - tropical/temperate
Howler - grasslands/tropical
Spider monkey - tropical

I like patas monkeys. Is a nice choice that is not usually talked about. I personally will choose the golden snubed nosed monkey because is one of my favorite primates even though not common in captivity. The rest i would keep the same. Great choices. And to top it off WE with small new world monkeys and squirrel as aniversary 😂

Snub nosed monkeys were my second choice. I live this species and they are doing good in captivity but are being really hard to be imported from China.
Let’s add tamarins and marmosets to WE and then patas as the anniversary species.

Oh 100% - these species are all great picks, and if we managed to get all of these, I’d be DELIGHTED. A good primate selection is vital to making a zoo. A gelada, hamadryas baboon, mantled guereza, black howler and spider monkey would be IDEAL to round out the primate roster, and the patas, lion tailed macaque, barbary macaque and white faced saki would be my other options to provide some choice!

  1. Wetlands - pretty good roster, great models. Had this Caiman been the first it would've been a 10/10.
  2. Grassland - 8/10 good choices, perfect models. Had they picked a bettet antelope thaan a second wildebeest and a better armadillo it would've been 10/10.
  3. Arid - 7.5/10 love the animals, underepresented region, also best models in the game so far. but lacks diversity. Needed at least the Hamadrayas baboon instead of an antelope.
  4. South East Asia - 6/10 Good choices overall, but the tapir is a reskin and the clouded leopard still broken.
  5. North America - 5/10. Good enough but really boring to me. Barely get to use it.

1. Grasslands -Striped Hyena was one of my most wanted animals! Maned Wolf is beautiful. Blue Wildebeest is a classic African mammal. Wallaby, Caracal and Armadillo are good small animals to fill in. The butterflies are beautiful as well!
2. North America -Love the adorable Arctic Fox! Introduces many traditional zoo animals. As well as animals that are thrilling to see in the wild.
3. Arid -I like how niche some of the animals are. I didn't expect Dama gazelle for example. Sand Cat is awesome addition!
4. South East Asia -same as Arid. Love the Dhole, Babirusa and Binturong
5. Wetlands -still good, but the only animal I really am excited about is the Lechwe. Capybara should have been in the South America pack imo. Although its great to have a crane.

Came back in to reread all of the thread and had an thought from a full review of it. I think this thread goes a long way in showing the huge variety of what the community finds good and not so good, and because it's opinions on what a player personally likes or doesn't like, every single ranking is valid. Some of us rank the NA pack as the gold standard of rosters and some find it boring. Some people find the Arid pack a great addition and some just don't like much of it at all. The opinions on the packs and animal is all over the place. Which is actually a good thing I think!

ETA: post right above me (not singling you out @synthetase sorry), it shows this perfectly. The Lechwe was the only animal you were excited about. Not the most common opinion, but it's still valid because it's your opinion. For a good number of players it's a "filler" animal, not a bad choice but not one to get excited about either.

Reminds me that Frontier has a tough job at choosing a roster that will please at least a (slim) majority of fans and that they're doing a good job of it over all. Most every pack and animal has its fans and detractors, though there's a handful that are the exception to that. To say nothing of the quality design of the animals. Even though I wasn't thrilled with the Arid lineup, there's no denying that the animals look amazing, and that Frontier's somehow continuing to get even better, which is hard to do considering they've released outstanding work from launch - again with a few exceptions, but overall the game, the designs and the roster are simply amazing.

I actually liked the addition of lechwe. Not it specifically but just the fact that it's a waterbuck. Another tropical, this time swampland dwelling antelope felt a bit more unique then another savanhah one.

Definitley wouldn't say it was my favorite when capybara was an option.

1. North America - basically all hits, with the worst nitpicks being things like the lack of sea lion sexual dimorphism. People don't remember that this knocked out half of the meta-wishlist top 10 in one go.
2. Grasslands - some of the highest quality animals we've seen yet, varied continental representation, some animals that are very common in zoos of all sizes like the emu and wallaby. Also, butterflies!
3. Wetlands - fantastic picks like the capybara, otter, and crane, an uncommon-in-captivity but unique animal (ergo gets a pass) in the platypus, and two ungulates and a crocodilian no one asked for, but they're all really well-made.
4. Arid - Good picks in and of themselves but a terrible lack of regional or taxonomical diversity, especially inexcusable when PZ is likely on the later end of its development cycle. But the porcupine might be the best thing Frontier has ever made.
5. Southeast Asia - Exclusively carnivores, ungulates, and a monkey with almost no captive presence outside its native range. Animals had/have both model and glitch issues and the Malayan tapir is easily the single worst-made DLC animal in the game's history.
