Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

Id agree that
Question: What would you consider the minimal primate roster you'd like to see in the game?

For me:
  1. Baboon
  2. Guereza
  3. Indian monkey (preferably lion-tailed macaque)
  4. Howler monkey
  5. Squirrel monkey
  6. 2 marmosets/tamarins
Mine is pretty much the same. Although i would prefer the grey langur over the lion tailed

Would give all monkey relevant regions a bearable roster. In an ideal world we would have 3 more monkey species for asia and africa each + a baboon and like 6 for SA.
But at this point im doubtfull we will see even one more monkey let alone a minimum roster

Question: What would you consider the minimal primate roster you'd like to see in the game?
  1. Critically Needed:
    • Golden Lion Tamarin and Cotton Top Tamarin: cute, common in zoos, and conservation icons
    • Howler monkey: It's been hovering at the top ten for a while
    • Geoffroy's Spider Monkey: iconic and has risen rapidly in popularity. The Geoffroy's has a lot of coat colors, similar to the lar gibbon
    • Hamadryas Baboon: A baboon is needed, and this one give Middle East rep
    • Colobus Monkey: Very popular and iconic monkey
    • Indian Monkey: preferably grey langur for me. India really needs one.
  2. Still Important/Essential:
    • 2 more small monkeys for Africa: colorful guenons like De Brazza's, Patas monkey, barbary macaque, vervet monkey, mangabeys, to name a few...
    • Squirrel Monkey: common in zoos and a great clone pick
    • Emperor Tamarin: cute mustache
    • Golden Snub Nosed Monkey: Chinese conservation icon
    • A nocturnal monkey: tarsier, night monkeys, Aye Ayes all seem good to fill this slot
  3. Strong Picks:
    • Red Shanked Douc: my favorite old world monkey
    • Bearded or White Faced Saki: another good SA monkey
    • Bald Uakari: ugly but iconic from SA
    • East Javan Langur: common zoo monkey for SEA with a lovely golden morph
    • Lion Tailed Macaque: another monkey for India
    • Coqueral's Sifaka: popular, but not different enough from lemurs for me to need it
    • Gelada: cool and popular baboon relative
  4. Nice to have:
    • More African monkeys: there are so many good options
    • Golden Headed Lion Tamarin & Marmosets: also cool
    • Maybe something else from SEA?

Also, I think this is a good time to pull the map of the regional status from the regional ranking thread (@call me Omi made it):

This gives a pretty clear picture of what the forum at large thinks of the biomal regions, and by extension the continents
The rest of the world: A nice cool pleasant day, maybe some hot flashes but nothing too drastic.
South America - On fire, drinking Jalapeno pepper sauce to try and put out the heat.

  2. Guereza
  3. Indian monkey (preferably lion-tailed macaque)
  4. Howler monkey
  5. Squirrel monkey
  6. 2 marmosets/tamarins
1. Tamarins and Marmosets (at least 2)
2. Baboon
3. Spider Monkey
4. Bushbaby/Slow Loris/Douroucouli
5. Squirrel Monkey
6. White-Faced Saki
7. Howler Monkey

That's just off the top of my head, could probably think of more if I actually thought longer about it.

1. Howler
2. Spider
3. Golden lion tamarin
4. Mantled guereza
5. Indian monkey (langur or lion tailed macaque)
6. A baboon (i prefer olive but would take hamadryas)

That's the minimal roster. I also really want Golden snub nosed monkey, gelada, squirrel monkey, aye aye, sifaka, de Brazza's monkey, diana monkey, patas monkey, vervet monkey, Francois langur, tarsier and slow loris.

I wish more people appreciated nocturnal primates, they are absolutely essential for nocturnal houses in my opinion. A lot of the time there will even be multiple! There's lots of good choices too: douroucouli, aye-aye, slow and slender lorises, galagos/bushbabies, perhaps even mouse lemurs as exhibit animals.

"Night Life" at London Zoo has slender loris, potto, two species of bushbaby, and aye-aye elsewhere in the same building for example.

1. Squirrel Monkey species
2. Black Howler Monkey
3. Golden Lion Tamarin
I guess that's the "minimal" cut off.
4. Aye Aye
5. Hamadryas Baboon
6. Red Howler Monkey
7. Emperor Tamarin
8. Spider monkey species (not a fan really)

Sorry, really just 3 I guess, all from South America of course.

Patagonia especially is so so empty.

I love them but they are not very common in zoos. Plus I kinda gave up on a nocturnal pack after the dissapointment that was the twilight pack.

I would appreciate them more but the challenge/lack of mechanics to make a half decent nocturnal house stops me from doing so. Twilight was the place for that but it did absolutely nothing to address nocturnal behaviours or interior lighting issues.

Maybe if we get a proper nocturnal pack with a good update of the lighting or whatever.

Obviously not happening, but i can't really consider Twilight pack a nocturnal pack.

For me:

Baboon or gelada
Howler monkey
Another small SA monkey

I could honestly live with just those 3 though there are some extras I'd like as well:

Small African tropical monkey
Spider monkey
3rd small south american monkey
Indian monkey
Barbary macaque

If we were to get those 8 I would actually be perfectly happy with our primate roster.

Most complete I would say Africa, even though I could list 10 different animals right off the bat that I would like added it has the most number of animal representaion of all the continents and for good reason its animals are the most popular abroad.
Least represented is South America hands down, and its largly monkeys but I could also stand to see a few more amphibians, reptiles, and rodents from there as well.
Asia could use a boost too but not as bad as South America.

For those who picked Africa as the most complete, I'm curious if it was based off the number of animals or if it was a matter of it having the most complete number of iconic and well known representatives in game. Not trying to start an argument, I'm genuinely curious. It's totally okay for some to consider Africa the most complete. I just see African animal discussion pop up a lot and wonder people's thoughts on that.

Mind you...I'm the guy who, after the Arid pack, basically said do we "really need" any more African mammals. I've changed my thinking since then but it's not like I never thought Africa was set.
