Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Sentiment this quarter seems to be quite negative. You have the regulars who would defend anything CIG did as reasonable, no matter what, and you have the people who see every obstacle as proof of malfeasance and incompetence. Right now, though, in that mix, are a bunch of folks who normally support CIG but are clearly frustrated with how things are going, people who would have said "give them a chance" in the past are now asking for CIG to really show something big before the end of the year.

Whether or not CitCon fixes that frustration with enough promises to smooth things over, I don't know, because it might, but I've never seen folks this upset as far back as I can remember, which is about 6 years on this project. I'm glad. I backed this project, too, and I'm frustrated. I believe my 6 years is long enough to see real, tangible improvements, and not this nibbling around the edges we've seen them do so far. It's not surprising at all that people here from 10 years on are even moreso.

So it's interesting to watch the staunch defenders get increasingly upset and dismissive (depending upon who you are) at an ever growing number of people.

Yep, this is the most prolonged critical period I've seen, over about the same period of SC-watching. And like you say, featuring a lot of long-haulers.

EDIT:

And emotions are definitely peaking in some cases:

We see malfeasance and incompetence because there is malfeasance and incompetence. Chris started lying from day one. And he described a game that cannot be made.
You won't find me disagreeing, I don't mess with Astromechs.

Seriously, though, I fell for it in 2018. I did, and I'll be the first to tell you I let my hope and optimism cost me a pretty penny, but it's one of those hard earned lessons, and so when people ask me "should I buy this game package and this ship?" I usually recommend they don't. If they're insistent, I'll tell them if they want to waste their money that's their business, but at least go for the cheapest $45 ship. Anything else is throwing good money after bad.
Indeed, and I'm curious to see how it all turns out, whether things will calm down again, or whether CIG will have to actually step up and show their work. The former is very possible, and likely, the latter is unlikely, and even if they did, I would wager what they have finished is a joke compared to what they've promised.

I've said it before, I believe the developers have done their best, and they have consistently tried to deliver what Chris wants, but Chris doesn't know what he wants, because it's always changing. It's like giving a 4 year old a boatload of candy and watching as they have a sugar buzz and say they're going to be an astronaut, a farmer, a policeman, a fireman, a rocket scientist, and and and and and AND AND AND AND AND..." except people are giving him a bunch of money instead.

SC faithful: You can't EVA in Starfield!

One by one, modders will do what CIG and Bethesda can't.

People that think we are entitled to dates or that lack of dates is a “red flag” are under the wrong impression this is still a fully crowdfunded venture.

But CIG already released SC (in early access) around 2016. This ceased to be a fully crowdfunded project that long time ago, and so CIG have essentially zero further obligations towards people giving them money, including dates, other than ensuring the PU is up. That is pretty much it.

Also, if early access revenue was considered crowdfund then the world record for the largest crowdfunded project would probably be Fortnite.

Eleven years ... and CI have a partial star system, no wormholes to the 99 promised but non existent other systems, jury rigged cargo handling, no fuel refining. Basic mechanics still not in place.

Star Citizen does not even reach the level of travesty, I call it a sham.

I dont believe they are making progress with Squadron 42 either. There is nothing, after eleven years. The guy should be in jail.

This, and I find really odd to consider "crowdfunding" the sale of digital assets. The crowdfunding was in 2012-2013 era. The rest is history, presales, preorders; microtransactions, macrotransactions, etc... And I still don't understand why the "backers" and CIG are bragging about the amount of so called "funding" !

I think I've found the answer to the Chris problem...

LLMs run waterfall dev house, create functioning Gomoku games in under 7 mins for <$1

You said it yourself, "development" NOT "alpha", these are two entirely different things. Starfield went through development, through Alpha and released a finished product, Star Citizen is still sitting in Alpha.

And are you really trying to conflate the 7.5b MS paid for an entire studio with the 600m spent on a single game by CIG? How many successful games has Bethesda released again? How many successful games has CIG released?
It was a dishonest comparison and @LittleAnt knows it.
