Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The Scorpions gun is so bad, I've gone back to the regular old SRV. It's gun, although not as powerful, lands every single shot. I can fire 300 rounds at a soldier in a combat zone in the Scorpion and not kill him. He dies almost instantly in the SRV just because every shot lands.
Derrin in one of the Frameshift Live shows last year said they were intentionally nerfed as without that initial spread they were too overpowered, basically allowing people to sit at landing zones and obliterating dropping NPCs before they even hit the ground.

What a moronic take on their part.

They could simply reduce the number of rounds it fires, or lower the damage per shot. Instead, they choose to have a gun on a basic SRV outperform the gun on an alleged military grade vehicle by it not be able to hit the broad side of a battleship.

The trouble with it is the wrong way round especially if you have knowledge or experience of current rapid fire weapons technology.

The current way to use such weapons is short controlled bursts because the longer you keep firing the more things like recoil, heat and wear will build up and reduce accuracy not to mention safe life of the weapon. This gun starts bad but gets better which is silly.

The problem is that people walking around on foot or dropping from the sky should be obliterated by the sorts of weapons on a dedicated fighting vehicle or ship, the answer might have been to make people harder to get a lock on.

Just G5'd an executioner that came preloaded with headshot. Think I'll leave this one un-modded for mow as I can't think of (nor do I need at the moment) a specific use.

So I decided to check out a new Thargoid Spire site. "Foxy" on YouTube seemed to have fun popping Orthrus with a shard Conda. Jumped the carrier to a neighbouring system, loaded up my Krait MKII with shards and headed in. The Spires do look cool, but between these missiles that just constantly rebooted my ship and the shards instantly melting I ended up questioning my life choices. I can't do anything here. Why did I stop shooting pirates near Sol for this? Maybe I should take the carrier out exploring again?
The Spires seem to be another cool piece if set dressing that you actually do much with 😕

It was more fun second visit as other commanders were there. Going in solo is tough. That's the problem with a lot of Thargoid war content. It excludes the solo player.
I guess there might be a select few that might disagree with you, but I think these are players that spend way more time in the game than is good for them...

In a way, these Thargoid structures are what would be "dungeons" or similar instances in other MMO games. Stuff that is intended to be played in a team of several players. The only difference would be that in those games, this would be in a separate instance you can only enter through some sort of "portal" that keeps you from wandering in there on your own.
But as we are playing in a sandbox simulation of a quite hostile environment with danger always being part of the crew, this kind of portal system wouldn't make much sense. Instead, we are given some options: if we encounter something we can't tackle with what we have at that moment, we can upgrade our gear. If that doesn't suffice, we might call in for some assistance. Either in form of tips how to equip ourselves to get where we want to or in form of other commanders coming to our aid, tackling the hurdle in a team. Which can be a lot of fun, if the right people come together.
