Amazes me how Berks can keep smiling and laughing while the game screws him over time and again.

Have a little dig into Chris Roberts' history, particularly the clear parallels with Freelancer, where the project had to be rescued by Microsoft, with Roberts moved sideways. Can a development literate person enlighten me? Is CIG fancying up basic development milestones and goals by rehashing them as 'tech' to make it sound like they invented the wheel, hence the long development cycle?
I haven't a notion about development, but sometimes they are like 'We are currently working on hand held weapon system reloading tech' when describing the reloading of a weapon in game and it just strikes me as odd. Specifically their mention of 'physicalised water' tech or something like that, as if having moving water in a game is a new technology.
Had a chat with the systems architect guy. Their take on the entity mismatch example was:
"Each server is playing it's own game, then the replication server comes along and says "No, the Pico is here, not there". That took 4 seconds in a small scale demo. Imagine how difficult this synchronization is to accomplish for millions of objects across the internet with global-scale network lag, bandwidth limitations and at net code frame rates. I wonder too if the replication server will be a bottleneck in this design."
I speak no German but its gravitas and solidity prolly makes it the best language to go along with these bugsAnd well worth the money...
(The clips section is hot with all this Citcon hype)
I don't know what their plan is for meshing - I had thought this thread was the plan https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...m/50259/thread/how-is-server-meshing-possible - then I looked at the dates and it's 2019 - so presumably 'server follows the player(s)' didn't work out in the last four years ...
That would be dynamic server meshing. Clive is discussing the static server meshing as the first step. That is still the plan as far as I am aware. Albeit yeah, extremely late, and showing CIG is indeed struggling even with the static version.I don't know what their plan is for meshing - I had thought this thread was the plan https://robertsspaceindustries.com/...m/50259/thread/how-is-server-meshing-possible - then I looked at the dates and it's 2019 - so presumably 'server follows the player(s)' didn't work out in the last four years ...
Pretty sure he was a CitCon, Mikey pointed him out as the camera went on an audience walk. He didn't talk though, if that's what you mean. The no show of COO Erin Roberts for quite a while also worries me.
Quantum is not dependent on the server mesh as it’s a level above the server mesh
The server meshing work also has a very large impact on how the sim communicates with the game state and so have thus prioritized other work in the short term until we can come around and make the simulation affect live gameplay and make a difference like we intended since the beginning.
Excellent list. Could you add Boreium and Tedium? I get them a lot reading "those" Spectrum posts. From the refunds sub:

You mean the bottleneck of switching from Stanton to Pyro with a solo ship navigating a JP ?Had a chat with the systems architect guy. Their take on the entity mismatch example was:

Sounds like things/packs you could buy without ever having it in game.Their focus right now seems to be more art assets - from Citcon we had:
- New clothes
- New hair
- New character creation
- Jump gates
- New system
- New clouds
- Water physics
- Destructible scenery
- Tattoos
- New ships
- Base building
- fauna
- Solar flares
- new quantum tunnels
I'm trying to think of anything from Citcon related to the economy or gameplayOther than minor things like how you interact with buttons / loot items there was nothing for gameplay above 'look at the art assets' - and Quanta is all about providing gameplay, so they probably delayed it? No rush, they have years to get it working (and they don't need it at all for SQ42)
