Fourth Anniversary

Very interesting question came to mind. If this anniversary animal will fill in gaps of the roster from the base game, is it more important to fill in the continents of the game (e.g the deer gave us base game europe rep) OR the variety of the species of animal (e,g. the deer was our first deer in the base game.)
continent since looking at base game habitat animals it has 1 oceania 2 south america 2-3 europe and 3 north america 28-29 africa 15 asia so there is alot of issues with diversity.

I don't think it's important at this point to fill any base game gap. The people who really play, love and support this game usually buy the DLCs, so whether or not something is base game accessable is not relevant to them anyway.
The people who play this game only very casual aren't that much of a zoo or animal nerd and for them they might want specific animals, but they don't care if South America is lesser represented than Africa or Europe or whatever.

We often forget in how much of a bubble we live in this forum. We are all zoo and animal nerds. The people who play casually moved on to other games by now.
Of course there is that small percentage that didn't get every DLC because they live on a budget or have other reasons (other than wishes for animals) that keep them from buying every DLC and still play the game very regularly. But I don't think that this portion of the player base is very high.

So the question is more what the players want that have every DLC and if we are honest, most of us want more unique animals than the anniversary animal could ever be.

That said, I want the American Flamingo because it's super common in zoos, probably easy to make, I miss a colorful Flamingo since base game, the bird people would be happy about a free bird, Flamingos are one of the most used animals anyway, could be addded to existing habitats for some extra color... a win win situation for a lot of people. And even for the not-so-animal-crazy people the American Flamingo might be distinct enough to not say "we already have a Flamingo" that often.

American Flamingo is a meh choice for me but wouldn’t complain on any animal at this point.
My choice would be a Blackbuck or any wild SA camelid which would make me very happy.

I had way too much ungulates this year to be honest and definetly more than enough antilopes 😅 The fact that I'd rather want a bird says it all.
I'd make an exception for another Donkey, especially if it has suitable sound. Poitou Donkey would probably be too unique, but I'd love.

Yeah american flamingo would be pretty disapointing. I mean its a free animal, so its hard to be upset, but its literally just a colorvariation cmon

I'd rather have the flamingo than a blackbuck or any ungulate, though. The American flamingo would be the 1st bird from the Americas, plus it's a darker, nicer shade of crimson-pink than the greater flamingo. And it'd give us options that 1 flamingo can't give us by allowing us to choose between either bird. It'd fit wonderfully in tropical houses, too, for a splash of color that I feel can't always be done in tropical environments, oddly enough

I have no idea why everyone cries for the lack of SA animals and such unique spieces like wild SA camelids goes unnoticed 🤷🏽
For me having llama is like having regular barn goat instead of ibex.
But that’s just me.

Fully agree. Another flamingo does nothing for me.
We can get something like a Grey Crowned Crane, or even other American species like a Scarlet Ibis or Roseate Spoonbill...still birds but any of these would provide some unique qualities - also I'm not thinking we will get very many more birds in the game, so "wasting" one on a second flamingo would be disappointing.

I am also of the opinion that these could be animals from South America, North America or Europe, in that order of preference.

South America (in order of probability) : Coati, Mara, Rhea, Vicuna, Ocelot, Bush Dog
North America (in order of probability) : American Black Bear, Coyote
Europa (in order of probability) : Wild Boar, Alpin Marmot

But I would put a post on a large bird among : Secretary Bird, Shoebill, Great White Pelican, Mute Swan, Marabou Stork, Grey Crowned Crane
With a preference perhaps for the Great White Pelican and the Grey Crowned Crane.

Do we know approximately when the announcement could come?

A lot of good possible choices but I can't imagine we'd get the Coati as a free animal, nor the birds. The Coati is going to take a good amount of resources to do, and it's highly requested. So it's money spent and money to be made...definitely not free.

I guess I should clarify, any new animal will be some money spent, and money made as well, but I'm thinking in terms of it being free versus being in a pack, and a possible headliner at that.

As far as an announcement, likely next week since the 5th is on a Sunday, but it could also be the 6th or 7th. Can't see it being past that. I'm thinking likely Thursday Nov. 2nd.

Nobody is denying SA camelids, and the vicuña is especially getting popular, but there are far better choices than a vicuña. Llamas are way more common around the world and iconic than vicuñas.
Plus, I'd rather have a barn goat than the ibex

Actually base game sales are greater than these coming from all DLC combined, so in fact casuall audience is constantly coming. We know base game sales are responsible for 60% of all revenue from last year, which would mean there is huge amount of players who play and simply dont buy much DLCs for reason you stated and such.
People who have all DLCs constitute a small percentage probably.

People disappointed with any free animal are expecting too much. Who knows maybe we get a animal that exceeds all expectations but will see. Another flamingo though not exciting in comparison to some would be nice. There should honestly probably be 2 in game by now anyway especially when you consider the doubles in game already.

I would actually look forward to another flamingo actually. It gives a new option rather then using the greater for all our zoos. My local zoo has Chilean flamingos. They are noisy and quite stinky actually but I’d love any subspecies in game.

Chilean flamingos do smell pretty bad, I must say.
I'm happy with Chilean and American. The rest are alright, but the 2 I mentioned are the more visually striking birds
