COMPLETED CG Eliminate Threat of Grey Swan Pilots (Combat)

So I went there, dreading the horrors of the Grey Swan.
+ Found a CZ with Grey Swan
  • It worked and did not just finish without a message
  • Could do it repeatedly and handed in ~10M for the cause

- It was only a Low CZ and finished so quickly that jumping in and out to reset it was tedious. Could the oh-so-dangerous Grey Swan not even put up a Medium or High CZ?

Not sure if it's unintentional or lore-appropriate since having medium or high CZs could also involve Grey Swan captains/spec ops/war correspondents which is a level of organization that doesn't make sense for a band of rampaging psychos.

Only Top 10, not even Top 10%...
I know it's a good reward, but still... I don't understand why over 1.6k people are helping 10 get free suits.

Because they just want to participate in the event and/or shoot up ships?

Yeah, I know, playing for the fun of the game instead of just the rewards is so 2000s.

Sarcastic joking aside - I do get that rewards are an incentive, but far from necessary to get participation in something. Some might be doing this for the RP(be that against the Grey Swans or… for them), others are just there to blast stuff, or for the interaction with other players.

I’d like to think that the result here is, most of the participants don’t care too much they have no chance of making the top 10 for a reward. Would it be bigger with one - other than credits - extended to the other percentiles? No doubt. But there’s at least 1,590 participants whose concern is probably not that there is little chance they can get the suit reward.

This question has almost certainly been asked, but 5 pages of posts ... Are there any suitable ground CZs ?

Yeah, someone made a thread in Suggestions where the crew wages should only be deducted after cashing in and not at the same time. That way players can retain their CG bonds value and also satisfy the game's requirement for crew upkeep.
Reality is though, bonds cashed in is a terrible metric to determine who wins a conflict cg.

It would be great if given a more accurate measurement, but this one is evidently meant to be completely one-sided.

And, unless the major feature rework is revealed to be CGs - which I doubt, assuming this rework even still happens - I don't think there's really going to be any changes to them from here. Would of course be nice if they did, but not expecting it.

insert line about a very hypothetical sequel here

Most of them aren’t, they are trying to help themselves into the Top 10 and why not the odds are better than winning a national lottery.

Whilst i agree that only giving the top 10 a reward is well out of order, to be fair the reward aint that good, i would have been annoyed if was some module or similar.

I joined this cz just for fun, i have even set up a Krait mark 2 for this, (and future cz's and other combat stuff)
I am now in the top 50%, but that's where it ends for me, no more game time the next couple of days.
I still have to work on the weaponry and engineering, but it's a bit better suited for combat then my Python.

Summary
System: Shamash
Station: Khonsu Gleam (Megaship, large pads available, 306 Ls from main star, 56.02 Ly from Sol)
Objective: Hand in Combat Bonds after fighting for San Tu State Network in Conflict Zones
Time limit: 1st November 3309 @ 06:00 UTC

Description
Commanders have been asked to help destroy the rogue Grey Swan pilots who are killing civilians in the Shamash system.
Military squadrons taking part in Fleet Exercise Grey Swan became irrationally violent following an unexplained mass hysteria that swept through Garrett Orbital. Captain Ulrich Maurer, commanding officer of the San Tu State Network megaship Khonsu Gleam, broadcast the following message:

Wing Commander Mackenzie Coates was coordinating Fleet Exercise Grey Swan when the signal caused its crews to become homicidal. She told a local newsfeed:

San Tu State Network has agreed to reimburse all Grey Swan Pilot combat bonds handed in at Khonsu Gleam in Shamash.
As an additional incentive, the top ten individual contributors will receive a Wraith Spectre Sand suit.
Participants are advised that Shamash security forces aim to complete the combat operation by Wednesday 1st November.
To be eligible for rewards you must sign up as an active participant before handing in Combat Bonds at Khonsu Gleam in the Shamash system.
Please note that if you have any crew members, a proportion of your combat bonds will be automatically assigned to them. These combat bonds will not count towards your personal contribution total, and your crew will receive the reward for these combat bonds when they are handed in. The proportion of combat bonds assigned to your crew will depend on their rank.
Be aware that faction-state changes and other disruptive events can negatively impact markets and station services, and could prevent the initiative from running smoothly.
Notes:
  • Khonsu Gleam is orbiting planet 1
  • Megaship services: Commodities Market, Outfitting, Repair, Restock, Refuel

I am not finding any Grey Swan ships within any conflict zones.

Am I doing something wrong because I’m not finding any Grey Swan ships in conflict zones, at all.

Hi FDev, myself & a number of other CMDRs in-game right now are struggling to find these Grey Swan ships.
There is currently a War happening in the Shamash system & all of the Conflict Zones that are present are for the system's other factions. Not the Grey Swans.
We have checked Extraction Sites, Points of Interest, Nav Beacons and so on, yet we're not finding any for the relevant enemy vessels.

Is there somewhere specific we have to go to in order to find/ fight the Grey Swan ships?
This is an issue for me as well.

I still believe we've got this entire CG backwards.

I do not think the Grey Swan Pilots are the ones at fault, and there is evidence that correlates with this.
- Visiting Garrett Orbital and peeking into their concourse/bar (as we can't dock there), everyone is operating and relaxing as usual.
- Pilot behaviour is also too regimented and disciplined with squadrons in formation and theatres of conflict discrete and organised.
- Communications from this faction have always been polite and considerate.

They were never the ones corrupted by those frightening log entries - in fact, I think they were largely the victims, as were the crew of the Thetis. The Skull Person who was seen intervening with some of the individuals may be associated with this, and I suspect may be one of the main individuals of interest here.

But who committed the acts described in the logs?

It was us.

We all heard the messages. I fear we have been infected. And so were similar others when all those people were killed, somewhere.

And now we are being openly, and unambiguously, asked to commit murder again, many of us willingly.

Grey Swan Pilots are not the monsters. We are the monsters.

You might say, we were the monsters all along.

So what about those of us who are not taking part in it despite being there and hearing the signal over the beacons?

Did we pass the test, or did it fix us?

… those who had an inclination to just start blasting, anyway. Not sure I was one of those types, as I usually do need a reason.

(I would be very surprised if there wasn’t something else behind this.)

I mean, wouldn't it be appropriately Halloween if the outcome of the CG was that we really did "Kill them for me", and the outcome is the system is depopulated and stations abandoned...
