COMPLETED CG Eliminate Threat of Grey Swan Pilots (Combat)

I still believe we've got this entire CG backwards.

I do not think the Grey Swan Pilots are the ones at fault, and there is evidence that correlates with this.
- Visiting Garrett Orbital and peeking into their concourse/bar (as we can't dock there), everyone is operating and relaxing as usual.
- Pilot behaviour is also too regimented and disciplined with squadrons in formation and theatres of conflict discrete and organised.
- Communications from this faction have always been polite and considerate.

They were never the ones corrupted by those frightening log entries - in fact, I think they were largely the victims, as were the crew of the Thetis. The Skull Person who was seen intervening with some of the individuals may be associated with this, and I suspect may be one of the main individuals of interest here.

But who committed the acts described in the logs?

It was us.

We all heard the messages. I fear we have been infected. And so were similar others when all those people were killed, somewhere.

And now we are being openly, and unambiguously, asked to commit murder again, many of us willingly.

Grey Swan Pilots are not the monsters. We are the monsters.

You might say, we were the monsters all along.
It's more widespread than you think. It's not just Thetis or Shamash.

Every time we hear a message with the trigger signal ("Pilots' Federatoin Alert"), our response is "Oh boy, here I go killing again." 🤷‍♂️

Or a few thousand people come rushing for credits on a completely pointless community goal to build some good old Imperial statues, which totally was not a distraction from anything.
I mean, wouldn't it be appropriately Halloween if the outcome of the CG was that we really did "Kill them for me", and the outcome is the system is depopulated and stations abandoned
Maybe. I’d just find it a bit of a shame if all that setup in those first 10 logs was nothing more. But I guess we’ll just see… the CG happens to end on November 1, as I’ve noticed yesterday. Which probably doesn’t mean anything other than it is being let run until early on the day after the period ends.

This got me thinking...

As I said in CG Predictions thread - Spent my time instead, filling up with Limpets, filling up on G5 mats at HGE's in Shamash (War) then 1 jump to Venne (Boom), rinse, repeat until full, then off to mat traders to trade down.

Using my time proactively, whilst still around the Shamash system in case of further Halloween Event News/Continuation (or not!)

Take your time, I think there's now 3 wars going on there :)

Damn - looks like a war in Denebola is finally going to kick off just in time for the end of the CG - I bet it will have some high CZ :( Ah well, next time :D

Thank you for trying to sort out a Hallowe'en event, and trying to make it a CG rather than just the trail of beacons it has been in past years.
However, I afraid I don't think you quite hit the mark with this one. Some of it is due to the vagaries of the BGS, but...
  • it seems a bit off to have an Odyssey suit as a reward when there's no Odyssey combat.
  • It's nice to have said suit as a reward for the top ten (I think this is the first Odyssey cosmetic as a CG reward) but it seems a bit stingy to have nothing at all for the other tiers. Even on the current Inara stats there are at least 3,011 people who are not going to get anything except the credit payment (and the credit payments for war CGs are pitiful). I'm not suggesting that every tier should get a shiny new suit, but surely there must be some sort of reward you could have chucked in?
  • I understand the selection of Shamash as the location, being 15ly from Nefertem, but other than that it wasn't really a good location for a war CG. There are two other wars also happening at the same time, leading to lots of Conflict Zones that have nothing to do with the CG.
  • Also the only CZ that seems to have spawned for this war is a Low. It's not clear whether this is on purpose or not, but the bond payouts from it are pathetic. My first pass through it earned 237,000 credits. (Right now, for comparison, the person in first place has cashed in 257,517,957 credits. Good for them, but I don't have the time or patience available for a thousand runs through that CZ. Yes, I'm sure that's not what they did either...)

I think the the payouts for ships across the CZs are the same unlike odyssey CZs, but with longer CZs you get more bonds because you get longer stretches without resetting and friendly NPCs can do more damage in addition to occasionally being able to leech off of friendly spec ops. In a way the low CZs are the most tied to skill over luck with friendly spec ops or other easy/beneficial events. There's still an awful lot of RNG in space CZs with what ranks/ships spawn in since that determines how much bonds you can easily get.

Strong chance people in the top 10 just visited an Odyssey CZ outside the system for their bond tally(highest I’ve heard available being medium). Because they pay out absurdly well compared to the space CZ counterpart, but I’m guessing you’re aware of that already.

Does it really make sense? No. But it’s a game and there’s rewards, so, yeah. Not really expecting the CG format to be changed to not [just] rely on the arbitrary measurement of bond values, though.

I think there only being low CZs is intentional as a ‘lore’ thingy, but I could swear that they spawn more lower combat rank NPCs than the med/high. Dunno about ship types - it has been quite long since I’ve frequented any low intensity space conflicts.

I'm Elite in combat. From my experience, in these low intensity zones it depends on the initial spawn. In one instance you might get mostly Viper IIIs, Eagles, and occasional Federal Dropships and Asp Scouts and Explorers, all of varying levels of ability but never below Competent. Sometimes it might have about 2 Corvettes, half a dozen Federal x-ships, ASXs and Pythons throughout the course of the battle, and the occasional armed Type 9, and at least one of those will be ranked as high as Elite. However, there are no Elite special ops or propaganda ships dropping in midway through or anything you might see in medium or high intensity zones.

My experience has been that ship types don't change - even this low CZ is spawning everything from Eagles to Corvettes - but the ranks are lower, only Expert level or thereabouts, so they're not worth as much money as the Elite ones in a high CZ would be.

Can confirm ;) None available now though, war's won! Inara is convinced Denebola should be at war but they don't seem to have got the memo yet.

It ends… technically today for me, anyway, so it wouldn’t be much use to anyone if it did go active in the last few hours. Maybe for a very avid dual G5 rocket launcher wielder hitting high ground CZs repeatedly.

I’m more curious if there is going to be any kind of aftermath.

If it were possible to play at this time, On-foot HIGH CZ could easily turn around Inara's TOP1 credit, but unfortunately it did not happen for Denabola.
Currently, TOP 10 CMDRs can sleep or go out with peace of mind.

Bask in my glory! o7

(Seriously however, I've never put the effort in to rank that high before...and probably never will again! Ergh!)
