Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Hey all of our 4 deer are technically asian aswell.
But i agree, filler ungulates options are still really lacking for asia.
This is true and the reason why I personally try to specify “tropical/subtropical Asia”. It’s also why I think it’s possibly more useful to look at Eurasia not on the basis of cultural continents but biogeographic realms. So we would be talking about the Palearctic (with Europe, West-Central Asia and East Asia as subregions) and Indomalayan (with Indian Subcontinent and SEA subregions) realms.

I do see @KönigDerKaffeebohnen point that a large proportion of Europe’s few deer are iconic and otherwise good inclusions. No doubt that moose and reindeer would be in over more generic E/S/SE Asian deer. Even if I do think axis deer would’ve been better than fallow deer. I also get that Europe and EAZA zoos are more relevant to more of the player base. Just think that at least one deer for Indomalayan realm is warranted.

Similar topic-There are so many Asian ungulate species I want in the game! I know they can be redundant, but I really appreciate the variety we have for African ungulates, and I want the same for Asia. I'm expecting we'll get at least the takin and markhor in a Highlands-type pack but would love to get more of these guys eventually (after NW primates of course 😂 ).
  • Axis Deer
  • Blackbuck
  • Domestic Yak
  • Gaur
  • Lowland Anoa
  • Pere David's Deer
  • Markhor
  • Nilgai
  • Reeve's Muntjac
  • Sichuan Takin

So since it the topic right now.
What would everybodies BARE MINIMUM asian ungulate addtions be?

For me its a takin, muntjac and nilgai
Absolute bare minimum:
1. An Indian antelope (blackbuck as top choice, followed by nilgai)
2. A Himalayan caprid (markhor as top choice, followed by takin)
3. A muntjac (preference for the northern red or “Indian” muntjac because it has a broad range of biomes and regions)

Extending beyond that, I would go for wild boar, another caprid, and a large deer like axis or Pere David’s.

Coming soon to planet zoo!

This is indeed worth considering, but regarding Europe and European zoos, Asian deer are actually not unfamiliar. Tirepark Berlin has the most abundant deer in the world. If we add a restriction, such as in European zoos The most common Asian deer, I think, are muntjac, PD deer and hooded deer Tufted deer. If we add "Himalayan region" to this list, I think it should be muntjac. Of course, in recent years, European zoos have also actively participated in the conservation of ungulates in Southeast Asia, such as anoa, Babirusa, Banteng and Visayan deer.

Asia is indeed quite lacking in ungulates, which we only have the water buffalo, babirussa and...that's it.

On a wishlist point of view I would love to see the axis deer, pere davids, muntjac and the musk deer. As well as Nilgai, blackbuck, banteng, gaur, tibetan yak and the lowland anoa.

Sadly, on my speculative point of view, I'd say Markhor, takin, saiga and IF we get a temperate forest animal pack, the axis deer.

Same but i would add the takin.

So hold on, if we’re getting into dates and releases, we gotta do this right.

Arctic Pack
Announced on December 12 (Thursday)
Launched on December 17
No Livestream

Aquatic Pack
Announced on December 1 (Tuesday)
Launched on December 8
No Livestream

Europe Pack
Livestream took place on December 6 (Monday)
Announced on December 7 (Tuesday)
Launched on December 14

Grasslands Animal Pack
Livestream took place on December 1 (Thursday)
Announced on December 2 (Friday)
Launched on December 13

Assuming this is an animal pack, we really only have one piece of data to go on, that being Grasslands.

They need 11 days to reveal all the screenshots, and the launch of the pack needs to be before Christmas cause duh it’s Christmas most profitable time of the year.

The 5th seems idk a bit too early for a release.

So my final guess would probably be an announcement on the 1st, Live-stream taking place the day before (30th), and a launch on the 12th of December.

Or
Announcement on the 8th and a launch on the 19th.

yk you can really easily fact check that on zootierliste
all deer species in the EAZA with over 20 holdings:
european fallow deer 918
red deer 535
Roe Deer 247
reindeer 224
all non dybowski sika deer 221 (310 with dybowski)
reevees muntjac 191 (all other muntjacs are basicly non existant)
European moose 132
axis 95
dybowski deer 89 (extinct in the wild siberian sika deer subspecies)
peres david 66
deer with fangs (cause ik people will ask about them) 32 (15 chinese hooded deer, 8 chinese water deer, 5 musk deer)
north american elk subspecies 31
mesopotamian fallow deer 29
altai wapiti 24
visayan spotted deer 31
hog deer 25
southern pudu 23
barasingha 21

take this information and use it as you please
also if anyone is wondering why nothing from the americas is here besides the pudu and some miscellaneous wapiti its because allmost no american deer are kept in the EAZA

Oh shoot, Arctic Pack released on the 17th, so it could also be that we get the pack on the 19th and an announcement on the 8th

I’m going with that nvm - actually - I can’t decide what’s more realistic 😜
I think the earlier date (the 12th) is significantly more likely. Every December DLC release since that first one has been earlier in the month and it's probably to build-in some time ahead of the holiday break to push out a patch/fix if something's critically wonky with the update or DLC.

That first year of support was so riddled with weird inconsistencies... I tend to focus on what happened from the Aquatic DLC onward when considering release dates. Exception being the spring DLC because that's always revolved around the Easter holiday.

  • Muntjac, Musk Deer or any Chevrotain
  • Pere David's, Sambar, or Wapiti Deer
  • Blackbuck or Nilgai
  • Markhor, Serow, Takin, Mouflon or etc...
So I want a small "deer", a large deer, at least an antelope, AND a caprine...
IF I got to choose based on personal likes: Javan Chevrotain, Pere David's Deer, Nilgai and Japanese Serow
What would be good for building zoos: Muntjac, Pere David's Deer, Nilgai and (probably) Takin
