Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

If Frontier were ever to do a Petting Zoo pack or update, this is exactly how it'd be done, à la the viewing domes.

Wondering when you guys are gonna snap and realize how Frontier has embedded this almost extreme need of birds in the community on purpose. I really think it's too coincidental for it not to be completely intentional.

Also on the point of people denying the chances of a petting zoo pack, how is that any more nonsensical than denying they won't add birds? Both are pretty much needed and both are likely to happen imo.

And honestly regarding the whole petting zoo thing I do think that fits more as an update rather than a core part of a DLC. Like imagine they make the Latin America pack with coati, tamarin, rhea and mara + the free update adds guests feeding animals mechanics to make petting zoos? I think that would go more in line with how they have done things in the past, specially considering the game already has a lot of animals that are used in petting zoos.
I agree it is 100% on purpose but we still have no idea what that purpose is
in my opinion there are 3-4 major options to why we have no birds at least flying
  • they are saving it for a sequel
  • they are saving it for some sort mega pack
  • they are just taking too long to make
  • they know people wont be happy with what they make so they are not doing anything

So for everyone interested (or to lazy to translate) the top 20 most common species in the EAZA are:

1. African dwarf goat
2. Indian peafowl
3. European fallow deer
4. Domestic guinea pig (all breeds)
5. Domestic rabbit (all breeds)
6. Budgerigars (all morphs)
7. Alpaka
8. Domestic donkey (all breeds)
9. Emu
10. Domestic chicken (all breeds)
11. Meerkat
12. Shetland pony
13. Red necked wallaby
14. Llama
15. Golden pheasant
16. Blue and yellow macaw
17. North american raccoon
18. Ringtailed lemur
19. Cockatiel (all morphs)
20. Mandarin duck
I did not realise guinea pigs were so common. I've never seen one in a zoo before.

A lot of people want DLC in the style of a mini zoo.
I believe that Planet Zoo should not create DLC for domestics, following the voice of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). "ZOO facilities should focus on the protection of species at risk of extinction, and such species do not include, for example, farm animals."
In response, many zoos in Europe are closing their "mini zoos" and repurposing funds for new pavilions and the protection of endangered species.
We want realistic zoo game. So let’s just stick to that. Just saying…

Do you have a source for that statement?

Outside the EAZA though... such as those who build AZA zoos need domestics to build children's zoos.
Even in the EAZA what nutrit said isnt true.
Yes some zoos are removing their petting zoos and barnyard sections, but thats the important part some.
The vast vast majority plan on keeping them for the simple reasons of:
1. They are popular and rather cheap to maintain
2. Demolishing them Costs money amd gets rid of an attraction
3. Building something new there will take even longer and cost even more

And most importantly
4. Most Zoos got bigger issues.
Allmost every zoo still has some outdated habitats or big plans for the future, often both. Its not uncommon to see 2-3 currently worked on areas in any zoo and until all those old and often simply sad habitats have been removed or renovated it makes 0 sense to demolish a petting zoo

Removing a petting zoo in favor of 1 or 2 new enclosures for endangerd wildlife just isnt an realistic option in the next 10 years atleast for most zoos and even then most zoos take pride in taking care of old and endangerd breeds of lifestock as a part of the protection of cultural heritage.
The thing thats actually is currently a big thing is to swap out domestic breeds for endangerd ones with especally goats, sheeps and rabbits diversifying in breeds in recent years as many zoos adopt local breeds.

I don't know why I even care about petting in the first place, I never have guests in my zoo 😂 Just give me some goats and a highland cow to throw in a habitat and I'll be happy.
Feel that but its on principal.
Just cause we wont use it it doesnt mean we should basicly be locked out or severly limited when using the feature.
Building a functional zoo is what the game is about and the active struggle between building something that looks good and that functions is one of the games biggest flaws.
For some other examples, habitat gates, that every staff building is 4x4x4 meters, that the entry of the vieving domes is gigantic, working shelters are hell due to bad hitboxes, staff loosing the abklity to walk through walls once they enter a habitat so implied doors are meaningless, the list goes on and on and i dont want even more on it

I'm still confused about livestock DLC, and since so many people mention them, I just want to know if livestock is an indispensable steak entree for a zoo, or a broccoli to add to the entree.
I’m gonna assume your question is if livestock is a necessity and essential for planet zoo or if it’s just an add on (but then again that metaphor is crazy)

I’m gonna say I don’t think we need them, sure it’ll be more realistic to build with petting zoos, but it’s not impossible to build a realistic zoo without them.

I personally disagree. If realism is the goal petting zoos and domestics are a necessity imo.
But you cant really do a realistic zoo roster in PZ anyways, so idk uow much water the realism argument even holds

Not always the case though. I’ve went to a couple zoos where the petting zoo and actual zoo were actually separated from each other like down the street or across the road. For one to build a realistic zoo in PZ you could play it like that. There’s always some kind of work around if someone’s that determined to make a realistic zoo.
