Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

So which one of the two do we want and which want do we think we will get??;)

I want both xD Though some animals I would change. Alpine pack not really, personally I wouldn't be super excited about the Hyrax or Pallas cat, but again, that's personal.
The tundra animal pack does need some changes. Yes overall, pretty solid, but I'm not really excited for the Lynx. I would change it for Arctic hare. Same goes with the Puffin. Don't get me wrong, as a bird lover I love Puffins and I've seen them in Brittain and Norway, but they can still fly and that is the main issue. If it would be a bird, change it with something else, like the Tundra swan or Rockhopper penguin. The mountain goat, interesting and solid choice, I would love it :)I do miss either the Leopard seal or the Elephant seal.

So yeah, overall not bad! :D

Arctic Hare , Leopard Seal and Elephant Seal are not present in zoos as far as I know. So I would be very much opposed to them.

I'm pretty convinced the announcement will be happening next week. It's just a matter of when... And the number of variables in play make it really hard for me to feel strongly about when it might happen. I don't know that the lack of a livestream would influence the timing of the announcement because they could still tease things via socials beforehand and the social media rollout would arguably remain unchanged. So I'm just thinking of the actual reveal date.

Based on the way they usually roll things out via socials, an announcement or Thursday would work nicely. That would give them 11 days for animal reveals (8 days), some of the new update features (2 days), and the usual feature focus or talk with creators or whatever on the forum (1 day). Friday could readily work too; just cut one of the feature days (or merge it with an animal reveal).

A complicating factor is the drop of the new JWE2 DLC on Thursday, the 30th. It would just feel like an odd look to reveal a DLC for another game on the same day that another (relatively similar) game drops new content. Not just from a player perspective, but you'd run the risk of "splitting" content creators a bit as well. So from this angle, earlier in the week might make way more sense. Tease it on Monday, announce it on Tuesday, and just do the whole rollout a bit differently (and depending on what the new update brings to the table--there could be a lot to talk about).

Exciting having no idea about when any of this is going to hit!

@JW97 theres a few zoos that have a arctic hare. Not many by no means but there out there.

Yeah definitely, large species might be the stars but without smaller species the zoos wouldn't feel as lifelike, and they definitely give a refreshing alternative to big big habitats.

every time a person adds a wood frog for their generic cold climate pack a kitty dies

hot take but I would love to see a tank with crabs if we don't get the snowy owl as walkthrough exhibit animal for a cold pack.
yes the exhibit boxes are the perfect size for like rockpool marine life and crabs
also seriously its like people look up frogs that can live in the cold find a new frog please the wood frog is kinda boring
Call me crazy but I don't really think any type of frog will be a good addition anymore
You did not just dis my man the corroboree frog like that.

The leopard seal whilst not currently kept in zoos has had a huge impact on zoos in the southern hemisphere the only issue is sourcing them its way too expensive to go out looking for them put they do occasionally enter zoos via rescues from lost individuals so its an ok choice especially since it is a seal most people would at least have heard about.

I know the northern elephant seal is present in the pittsburgh zoo as rescues. It seems we keep asking for southern elephants seals though for whatever reason.
I would like to know the answer to this question because it cant even be zoo tycoon nostalgia since they use the northern elephant seal maybe the southern is more common but I dont think either are common in zoos

it’s time we get a lagomorph
The internet tells me the Arctic hares don’t live long in captivity.
The internet tells me there are northern elephant seals in Pittsburgh, PA and at the marine mammal center (I think off limits to the public). Nothing came up for southern elephant seals on my searches.
While I’d love for an announcement soon, I don’t think we will hear anything next week as we typically hear the first full week of December.

Zootierliste mentions there are more southern elephant seals in Europe but unless any one of us can confirm the current holdings it cannot be trusted. Edinburgh zoo, my semi local zoo is listed but they haven't had them in decades.

There are no elephant seals in Europe, I think you are looking the former holders.
As far as I know the only elephant seals in captivity right now are rescues in the USA and Argentina, taking under account both species.

The problem that i see with an all habitat birds animal pack that i've been thinking about lately is that we want things like secretary bird, pelican, swan ,duck, ibis, burrowing owl, etc but all of those require a lot of work since they aren't like any other bird in the game. Would need new rigs and whole new sets of animations... So a realistic Frontier bird pack would really look like: flamingo n2, penguin n4, basic chicken bodyplan, crane n2, ratite (rhea) and maybe 1 really detailed bird (secretary, swan, duck OR pelican but not all) and a midly modified rig with a bit more of work put into it (ibis, spoonbill, stork but not all of them) and tbh that would be kind of lackluster for me.
I'll still take this over no birdpack.

Could be:
American Flamingo
Rockhopper Penguin
Golden Pheasant/Victoria Crowned Pigeon
Grey Crowned Crane
Greater Rhea
Secretary Bird/ Great White Pelican
Scarlet Ibis
Any WE option with birds so hummingbirds/budgies/macaws

Not all top bill birds but still all welcome
