Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

But here the thing: it's a penguin, no matter what it will always feel like the pack clone instead of the "bird of the pack".

With oceania it's not that unrealistic to receive two birds in a pack anymore, so receiving something like rockhopper and the king eider in a tundra pack is not that unreal. Meaning we can receive a more unique bird while receiving a less unique enough.
Ive said this before but the Oceania Pack only has two birds because it was the easiest to do, not because they wanted to add more birds.
Kiwi was a given in a oceania pack and the penguin was chosen because it was an easy to do animal that would be well received anyways. I mean what would be the other options? Tree kangaroo, black swan and echidna are way more work, and most of the other clone ish picks are not that great option either.

Victoria crowned pigeon with peafowl rig

(Walkthrough exibit)small rodents and other animals[multiple species like they gave us the butterflies last year]Arctic Hare, Snowshoe hare, Alpine Marmot, Norway Lemming and Red Squirrel.
I’m sorry but what?

I’ve seen some unrealistic walkthrough exhibit requests, but this one takes the cake. You’re asking for five very different species that would require completely unique models and animations (okay I guess the hares would share animations), most of which wouldn’t even make sense as walkthrough species, or species with limited looped animations. The butterflies worked because of their sheer simplicity as models, their lack of need for complex animations, and the fact that frankly a single species of butterfly would be incredibly underwhelming and dissonant from what you’d see in real life. None of those factors are present for the species in this post.

I’m just utterly baffled at how Frontier gave us an inch with the five butterfly species and some people are trying to use it to justify a mile.

I mean, perentie, argus monitor and banteng (it's indeed a oceania animal, for my surprise) were right there.

I would like to see a game focused on the fauna of the Cenozoic Era, because there is a game about dinosaurs and there is another about current fauna. The only thing missing would be a game that focuses on the fauna that existed in the Cenozoic Era, with the exception of the current fauna. The game could be called "Cenozoic Planet", and it would be nice to see animals, among many others, such as:

Mammoths
Cave lions
Saber-toothed tigers
Megaloceros
Woolly rhinoceros
Short face bear
Megatherium
Paraceratherium
Hyenodonts
Terror birds
Glyptodonts
Dire wolf
Steppe bison
Arsinoitherium

The Bantengs in Oceania are to my knowledge feral domestic bantengs. Which would be like getting the Dromedary in an Australia pack, its just odd.
Perentie, or any habitat monitor really would have been an option, but we "just" got the watermonitor. And would have the Perentie been a better pick than the penguin? Idk

I'm trying to think like Frontier and wondering what the most crowd-pleasing cold-weather roster would be. I think we're splitting hares (ha) if we call it an Alpine or Mountain pack. I think Tundra pack is unlikely and Antarctica pack extremely unlikely. So:

Wolverine
Spectacled Bear or ABB
Walrus
Arctic Hare
Musk Ox
Pallas Cat
Raccoon Dog

Tundra Swan, non-flying, or Snowy Owl, if there is a way they could manage it

I think that's got a balance of clones and new rigs, and carnivores v non-carnivores. It gives us some large as well as small animals from varied taxonomies, and some that could have interspecies bonuses. Some cuties and a few contenders for the headline. If I were Frontier, I think that's what I'd pick.

If it were my choice, I'd have the Himalayan tahr instead of the walrus. I'd go for the ABB over spectacled, and the owl over the swan.

This… This is acceptable.
Or too good to be true. I'd love the Walrus and the Raccoon dog and be happy about ABB (spectacled not so much) and Wolverine. Musk Ox I might use one or two times. Pallas Cat and Arctic Hare I'd just ignore, so still would be a good pack for me.

Wolverine, Muskox and walrus sounds like lots of favourites in a tundra pack.

If a Mountain pack, wolverine, takin, pallas’s cat, spectacled bear, marmot, monals and pheasants and gelada are all reasonably likely to be included

Three favorites in an animal pack, or minority of picks, is perfectly fine and in line with what we've been getting so far. Especially if not all of them need new rigs.

Again that doesn't mean I'm arguing for Tundra against Mountains. I still think mountain pack is the most likely. Just not the all-star line-up that's been circling this forum.
