Winter 2023 DLC Speculation

Wow it's really despressing. We don't even know the entire roster yet, and everyone's already dumping on this pack. Which if that's their opinion, it's valid for them. But it's a shock to see it coming from everywhere. Here, Facebook, Reddit (okay, that place is somewhat toxic so no surprise there), even youtube. I don't think I'm going to love the entire roster, but at the same time I feel the preemptive need to defend this pack.

I will try my best not to dump on the Arid pack anymore, knowing how it feels when something you like gets torn apart.

So I was watching some of the old trailers, and in the SEA one they explicitely called it the Ussuri Dhole, but in game it’s just Dhole. When did they switch it?
it is still that subspecies its one of a few stealth subspecies in the game

others include
  • atlantic grey seal
  • cape buffalo
  • plains bison
  • an unnamed king penguin subspecies
  • an unamed proboscis monkey subspecies
  • northern diamondback terrapin
  • a potentially invalid giant forest scorpion subspecies

okay, that place is somewhat toxic so no surprise there
Reddit is fun to visit for the masochist in me! Although I hope for upvotes, I post what is going to get downvoted...
I feel the preemptive need to defend this pack.
Me too! Even if the bitterness is from me... Any content is good content this late in the game! We SHOULD be grateful!
I'm most grateful for Sloth Bear that I never actually expected her to show up :D Also the wolverine is a majestic and iconic animal of the North. The Takin is UNLIKE anything in game so far. The saiga is charming (UNLESS they are going to be hard to keep?)

It's exactly what happens when we hype ourselves up with a single roster in mind then everywhere sees the same and tell everyone we are getting this diverse mountain pack. The community seems to be getting more and more desperate for certain pack ideas without the ability to be fluid in expectations, there's the bird demands, aquarium demands, india packs, dry mountain, cold mountain demands so Frontier is trying to fulfill all these requests all at once without satisfying any group really.

As a person who loves all the animal ideas, it's a shame to see people so hostile to a unique asian pack.

The Sloth Bear may very likely be the "meh" animal for me quite honestly. We have several Asian bears already. Now I'm not naive to think that the Sloth Bear is replacing the Spectacled or ABB in this pack, but it does feel like it lowers the chances of another bear showing up later o n. I would rather have that been saved for a continent that isn't already represented by 5 of the 6 bears in the game, soon to be 6 of 7

Yep the Same. One big Thing in Times of Social Media is that people which are complaining are faster by expressing their opinion on SM than the people which are Just happy. So it often just seems to be worse than it actually is. I am just trying to ignore negative comments If they have no actual reason. Sale numbers compared to financel Investment is or at least should be the only valid number for Frontier and this still seemed to be on the good side this year.

Yup! It's why so many complaints are so common right after game/game content releases- the ones who do not like it are on the various social sites being critical, the ones who like it are in the game playing it and aren't as busy on social media.

On the flipside of what people have been starting to complain even before the announcement of the actual DLC, we need to be thankful of what Frontiers have managed to pull off, especially in their times of layoffs after a different title of different genre of theirs made a big mess. We must continue to express our full support faithfully so that their revenue can expand better quality game mecahnics and more anticipated animals in the future.

The interesting Thing is that even Arid animal Pack as such a high criticized pack has a value of 80 per cent positive reviews. So complainers are just louder and not necessarily more.

Oh man I remember getting blasted for saying that I think mountains isn't a pack we will see. I really do think we will see them finalise the in game tag packs and then see either endgame or unique things like mountain ect.

I've been talking about an Asian pack for a few months, I'm glad we got it. I feel like it ticks off a few big community requests and will possibly give us a couple of animals to work towards a mountain pack

Exactly this!

Taking the idea of a Eurasian pack from @Emcee this is something I'd really wanted to see. Obviously not everything can work with the same theme but it really opened up my thoughts on a combination of the two packs.

Wolverine
Saiga Antelope
Eurasian Brown Bear - replaced by Sloth Bear
Wisent - (probably) replaced by Takin
Wild Boar - possible
Walrus - probably not
Muskox - probably not

Other strong contenders for me are the Eurasian Otter, Himalayan Tahr, Pallas Cat, Raccoon Dog and Markhor.

If we don't get the Markhor or Pallas Cat with this pack I contend that a Highlands/Taiga/Alpine pack is still in play for next year. People were already saying the Wolverine shouldn't be in it, and we'd still have the Spectacled Bear and Gelada as possibilities.

ETA - even without the (flying/exhibit) birds, and the underrepresented South America, I think the games roster is pretty incredible. And the fact we're still getting content 4 years in, which I think very few of us thought would be the case 3 years ago, and the fact the roster has more animals than Zoo Tycoon/Zoo Tycoon 2, is also pretty amazing. We're all going to have our likes and dislikes, or wants that didn't make it in....but looking at it as a whole it's looking pretty good.

To go again into the "Frustration topic".

I think a Lot also comes from false expectations which are away from the reality. I already posted it here earlier this day. Hoping for a Pack is a different Thing than expecting Something coming to the game. Flying birds and a Lot of Monkeys are now just not that realistic. And these expectations are in a certain way also fired by the content creators. With a realistic view we will Just expand the rooster with a few (1-2) expectations per Pack. Either you are Happy with this and I am or you are Not. And If you are Not there is always the possibility to Just Not Support this practice by skipping this Pack.

I know I have been saying it would be an asia pack for months with a focus on more temperate animals especially when half of peoples mountains wishlist were asian animals.

I feel like tundra, taiga and temperate are future packs that have a higher likely hood of happening, so I think we could see these animals come into the game later on
