It is pronounced however you want to. Language is a social construct that is as fluid as water.While working and also listening to some Elvis Presley, Pat Boone, and Brenda Lee, I kept thinking about the Eurasian pack, and I gotta say that, of all the animals, surprisingly I'm most excited for the wisent (which I learned is actually pronounced "vee-zent", not "why-sent")

If you ask me, I’d be hesitant to describe it like that. I hate to get psychological/sociological/potentially political, but I’m not a fan of social constructionism theory in situations/contexts where it doesn’t belong.
I don't understand the need to pronounce wisent in any other way than how it makes sense in English. If I in Danish talk about North American Beavers, I don't say beaver in the middle of a Danish sentence, just because it is the American kind. I will say bæver.

It's really interesting how local languages and cultures (mostly German, but there's others) influenced names of European wildlife in English language.

Yeah, my problem is that, unlike the odd language English is (because let's face it, English is weird), I speak Spanish, too, ans being raised in a multi-language household, I'm accustomed to reading and pronouncing words exactly as they're spelled. That's how it is in Spanish. We don't have 3 different ways to pronounce the letter "a". It's 1 way and one way only...

For me, it’s the opposite. I’m gonna call it the “vee-zent” so I can tease people by correcting them with a snarky attitude for my own kicks and giggles.
