I wrote that at first aswell but not true actually.
Yeah they are extinct in the ussuri region, but the subspecies also covers the chinese popultation, also known as eastern or chinese dhole, which very much still exist
Made more confusing by the fact that the subspecies C. a. lepturus is also called the Chinese dhole and is the subspecies actually found in zoos
While it's all still speculation, I think it's very likely we'll see one or two of these in the December pack, and I strongly suspect the anniversary animal in "hidden" in there somewhere as well.

It is complicated stuff.
Generally speaking Frontier used classification system, which lumps almost all mainland dholes into one subspecies. It is based on study, which however solely used samples from southern dholes, so there is no clarification, if there is genetic disctinction between northern and southern dholes.
Either way in-game descriptions are useless as always due to how taxonomy works and animal model itself is (or rather should be) indicator what animal actually is. In-game dhole is clearly based on population from SEA presumably being burmese/indian dhole. Not chinese one from zoos, but much still extant.
Unless they've fixed it, the Zoopedia also claims that the Babirusa is a Pig Breed
Yeah is looking like we are not going to complete ZT1 and 2 rosters.
Depends on how many DLCs are left what their theme is. Secretary, gerenuk, Nile croc, olive baboon and serval (even massai giraffe) i can see fitting in one pack. All savanah animals. Musk ox, walrus and sea otter could make up for a Tundra pack. Guess you can throw the rockhopper penguin in there. Mountains /Taiga could give us spectacled bear, markhor and gelada (i don't think ethiopian wolf has a chance at all). Japanese serow and Big horn sheep i see as less likely but not impossible, specially the first one. Honey badger and blackbuck in a dedicated India pack but that seems very unlikely after the Eurasia pack. Honey badger could get in an savanah/scrublands pack as well i guess. ABB is likely to come un a Boreal/Forests pack or as anniversary.

I know that this is for ZT2, but the sloth bear was included in Zoo Tycoon Xbox.
I don't include ZT Xbox because of that game spamming clone species that would just make the list unreadable.

The African spurred (sulcata) tortoise is very realistic if we see an Africa revisit.
They called it the Ussuri Dhole in the trailer for some reason. I talked about it the other day on a different thread
You missed 2 the emperor penguin and elephant seal The emperor penguin fits in the last category of no chance unless we get a dedicated antartica pack or something however the elephant seal is a maybe since people do seem to at least somewhat want it. Also I really want the ethiopian wolf we dont have any jackels yet and a mountainous red jackel would be great for the game but it is a pretty unrealistic pick sadly.
yes the sloth bear was I do have a list of remaining animals that I was meaning to make a reply here with just trying to work out some interesting taxonomic revisions on some animals.
The game spam honestly isnt that bad its just very concentrated all the "habitat" animal varieties are full of spam not so much the "exhibit"
there are around 73 unique species remaining to be added from the game and around 50 random subspecies and breeds this number is not for certain since every animal gets at least 2 sometimes 3 different scientific names which dont always line up.
In terms of the unqiue species remaining that feel like clones there arent that many the sloths, agoutis, and rhinos come to mind but the rest are usually fairly distinct from each other and what already is in game
