Planet Zoo: Eurasia Animal Pack arriving 13 Dec ❄️

Happens when its the only decent and not extremly time draining source.
  • Zootierliste covers ~60% of all zoos in the world, that is very much a very good source on if something is kept or not.
  • its not like it covers only europe, as it covers the middle east, new zealand and some asian countries aswell.
Imo way better then the typical thing of "i saw it in 2 zoos so it must be common" that we mostly get about especally the AZA.
People can like it or not but if an animal has 50+ EAZA holdings, its a common zoo animal and most likly are also kept outside of the EAZA, meanwhile if an animal has no EAZA holdings and no easy evidence that its kept in more then 2 zoos somewhere else, its fair to assume that its most likly uncommon in zoos.
Is that foolproof? Ofcourse not, take the rock ptarmigan as an example
They are kept in 2 EAZA zoos so they most likly are uncommon zoo animals right?
They are kept, bred and released in atleast 11 japanese zoos aswell, but heres the issue, for that knowledge i had to track down a news article from a japanese tourist site which doesnt even have a date on it.
I have no clue to know how acurate this knowledge is, if its dated, if since then they gave up the breeding project, if its a success and they maybe are kept in 20 zoos now, i simply do not know without wasting my time searching for it.
So imo there really is nothing wrong atall with just popping up zootierliste, searching the animal in question, look at their number and boom thats your information, no soul sucking search to check zoochat or whatever if a 7 year old post about this animals captive presence in the AZA still holds up or not, if your lucky enough that something like this even exists.
zoortierliste is a good guide for what is common in zoos but it is not definitive and should not be treated as such animal that are really common in europe such as the wild cat will appear as really common but they may only be common in europe and the reverse is also true. Its good when used appropriately which isnt always the case.
Had a thought that's probably unlikely, but maybe? Given the focus on Eurasia, maybe the HBB will be updated to EBB in update 1.16? I know it's been mentioned by myself and others before, but kind of like a hidden part of the update until the actual rollout?
I hate that this idea is actually getting traction.
I can understand that in part. But doesn't the Eurasian Brown Bear also live in Asia? It would mess with the actual country's were talking about, but as far as tags and foliage go, I would think it would make it more versatile to use, not less.

Yeah, we obviously have several sets of opinions about it...you and I with the group that want it done, those who don't want it done, and those who don't care. None of the opinions are wrong just different. My gripe with it is that now that it's arguably the highest profile missing animal from Europe, and since it's sooo close to the model being right there, it's the easiest change ever IMO.
There are 3 reasons im not a fan of the idea one because it would mean suddenly peoples himalayan brown bear habitats would no longer have that bear in it which yes the biome and continent would still be fine but if the did any theming based on the fact that it is from the himalayas it will now no longer make sense and will have to be redone as well as any custom signs or info boards. The second reason is that switching the bear will just cheapen the existence of both bears as individuals and assign each a value. Lastly if they replace one animal what is stopping them from doing it again this idea will undoubtedly create a toxic atmosphere around replacing animals with others in the game.
Personally I think its unfair that the himalayan bear gets so much hate just because it isnt the eurasian brown bear leave the poor thing alone dont blame it for frontiers decisions.

I love how the reaction of the community on this pack basically has been:

We WILL be buying!

I've seen a lot of chatter that people think the modular gift shops will lead to modular aviaries. Obviously I don't think that's the case, but there is one thing I hope it leads to; modular covered habitats.
What is the big difference between an aviary and a covered habitat?

O:O:O:

Isn't that the exact same thing? Mesh walls paired with a mesh roof, I get not expecting birds to fly and such but an aviary and covered habitat follow the same design principle.

WIll the sloth bear carry children on it's back and use termite mound??

OK, I know of: Aspen, Himalayan Birch. What else is it?
Most of the mentioned selection comes from North america, with the 2 mentioned trees of aspen tree and white birch (useful for say the wolverine). Eurasia has the himalayan birch but is missing its 'white birch' called the silver birch, either a new silver birch tree or larger/taller variants of the Himalayan birch is ideally needed as foliage in the free update.
