Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

So I've been cruising through more unverifiable dev chat...

And this was the best one. Pithy is always best...

If someone told you that a game can be 500 million 10+ years into development with no end in sight you would never think its possible. But here we are.

I worked with Chris Roberts on a couple of games when he was at EA.
I was sure this was possible from the moment I heard about it.
I will be stunned if there ever is a game.

Fun watching SC streamer Level Cap video about a scam game. None of the words seem like they could apply to any other game :sneaky:

You beat me to it you wascally wabbit!

This is a glimpse of the future of SC.

Steam refund time limit: Within 14 days or playing a finished product.

CIG refund time limit: Within 30 days ...of purchase of....trying an "early" Alpha (Effectively a demo) ...of not a finished product....oh and it's actually a "pledge" don't you know? NO SCAM NO HATE NO CRITICISM.
Isn't Steam 2h of playing the game. Not really much. My three or so ever refunds I immediately filed after playing them. Play them 2h 5min and no refund.

SC has been released (as early access) already. It is just a very poor product. And as a released product it follows the same practices as any other released product, early access or not. This includes no refunds after the usual two weeks or similar in most jurisdictions. In fact CIG is very generous by offering 4 weeks.

Yeah "You need to submit the refund request within 14 days of purchase. Any purchased game can only have two hours of playtime on it."

I was just searching for that quote from CIG legal about how time spent playing the Alpha indicated enjoyment of the product which is now "released with regular updates" but I found this page which was funnier https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/los-angel...ud-imperium-games-llc-1216-1016845/complaints

Meh...I can't find that Christmas animation of the SQ42 cast looking like wooden puppets, this year...

So here's a temporary "feature complete" replacement, basically the same thing...

You mean this one?:

According to BlueBackground, CIG sent him a letter informing him of the refund, which opens with several paragraphs’ worth of arguments against granting his request, including a reminder that players have to agree multiple times that they understand SC is in an alpha state, an argument that he isn’t covered by 2015’s UK Consumer Rights Act as he cited in his request, a note that the sandbox has gotten regular quarterly patches that “consistently expand and improve the game’s playable environments and functionality,” and the presumption that his 274 hours’ worth of playtime since 2022 “shows use and enjoyment of the game and rebuts the false allegation that the game has not been released.

"Community funded" is a bit of a useless truism. Any sold product can be described as well as "community funded".

In the case of SC that truism helps maintain the false illusion that the game is still a crowdfund project.

It suggests that it's a "project", something that doesn't come with "obligations", put into a basket near "donations". It's not a project.
If you want to "fund a project" you have to adhere to investment legislation, how to collect money from the public, disclose risks, pipapo.
If you want to sell a product you have to deliver.
Now if you have your mailbox on Grand Bahama, investor legislation might be a bit more lenient, I think in the US it's kinda lax because the "crowd funding" is pretty much a newer form of financial fraud possibilities and needs oversight and regulation but that is not popular currently.
