Fantastic news from Spin the Wheel where we have just had our first endangered species breeding succes - four new froglets for our Lehmann's Poison Frogs. My head of reptiles and amphibians, Daren, tells me that it is difficult to sex them at this point but based on their burgeoning territoriality and the quite short limbs (Betancourth-Cundar, Palacios-Rodriguez 2022) we believe we may have four males. One of them seems a little less developed than the others and doesn't seem to display as much as the others but they are all in excellent health. If any of the network are also part of the Lehmann's breeding programme please do get in touch, unfortunatly because our original population were seized we would need to do a bit of digging into their genetics to check they aren't from too closely related populations but judging by our froglets health I think it would be a remote concern. Personally I suspect these may even have been captured from the wild. We'd also be interested in partnering with any organisations that have links to any release programmes as we don't have the contacts with anyone running a reputable release site at the moment.

One of our lovely volunteers has also shown some real artistic flair and created a mural to liven up our arctic wolf shelter and with the reclaimed wood shutter doors it is beginning to make the place look a little less like the hasty concrete structure we shoved up a year and a half ago!

Yes, the foxes do still need homes, we need a home for Andreas, a leucistic male with great genetics, and Kylie, a dark red female with all genetics above 50%. We would be so happy if you could house these foxes!
We will rescue Andreas and Kylie. Should have an enclosure to house two adults and youngsters built by August! The enclosure will be 30 meters wide on each side (a square), with simple chain link, plenty of plants for them to feel secure, a nice heated shelter, a pond that we will keep clean with powerful water treatment and lots of fun toys stimulating enrichment. We would like advice on if they have any special notes for what they should eat, how your facility has habituated them, what kinds of medical procedures and training they have taken part in? And lastly we will keep your facility updated on your foxes by featuring them in our special members' only newsletter for Friends of Sola Public Parks. It is called Mountaintop Journal. We will send you via email a copy of our Newsletter Mountaintop Journal. However, feel free to reach out at any time once your foxes have arrived at our facility.
We are glad to help your facility!
Thank you,
Mrs. Weiss, Wildlife Vet

Amundsen-Scott-Zoo made a photo competition. Every guest could send us their favorite photo made at our zoo and we will show the winner picture on our biggest billboard for a month. We have chosen a winner:

This is Nihann, our Sand Cat, with one of his kitten following him on the toe. We don't need a psychic to read his mind - do you? 😁

Takins have moved into the Eastborro Zoo!
(yes, ik their habitat is kinda small, but irl, most zoos have at least a couple of habitats that are like that)

Just jamming in to say that youve gotten much better at terraforming and decorating and its really great to see! Allways love seeing a new guys progress and your quickly showing your skills!
Awesome work, i especally love the dynamic layout and the 3 different custom fences, great work!!

A little fun fact about the fences: they’re all repurposed ones that I’ve used before!

The one that’s for the guests to lean on was the most recent one I’ve built, I made it for the Bactrian Camels and it’s a replica of one at Roger Williams Park Zoo.

The second oldest is probably the one I use the most, and that’s the background fence that’s hidden amongst the bushes. I built it for the foxes in Eastborro.

The oldest one is the angled one that keeps the takins from jumping out. It’s actually 4m tall and was built for my (honestly kind of forgotten about) Franklin Park Zoo recreation.

Also thanks! I feel like even though my stuff is getting better, it’s still lacking something that I just can’t place. Maybe I need more plant diversity? Maybe I need more rocks? I don’t know, it just feels like something’s missing.

@CharlieXGaming is a big influence for my current building style. A lot of my builds are inspired by some of his, for example, I used some of the tricks he did with the plants in his Wisent habitat in my Swan pond. Maybe he can help with my dilemma.
I'm afraid that as we are a small operation at the moment and our buildings are rudimentary I'm not able to point you towards any architects we've worked with who might be able to help. I have heard that Tekton and San Bernadino Zoo have a great architecture team you could get inspiration from

I'm seriously a terrible builder (I get too bored and I am not detail orientated enough) Lot's of people would probably point you to some of the bigger creators on youtube but I find a lot of them brilliant but not very helpful as inspiration as they are so intimidating. The one exception for me is ZHS plays, I think because he builds in franchise not sandbox so he works with the constraints I do in franchise or challenge and although his build are breathtaking he often has really neat little tips in his videos that aren't so much about game building mechanics but small things he's found make the whole thing visually appealing. I haven't an ounce of his creativity and flair but I nicked some of his small things and they have made my builds better

So glad I could inspire you 😊. What’s your dilemma?

Also side note: I am planning a realistic tips video for the holidays so hopefully I can get around to that.

sure, here’s some
These are really good looking.
For the takin enclosure since it’s your most recent, the rock work is really nice I would just suggest maybe on the ground adding small plants around it like making a group of lords and ladies plants and just spreading them everywhere on the ground to brighten it up even more, or maybe even the lords and ladies in the rocky area between the 2 fences. Or more pebbles on the ground of the enclosure. I love the fencing btw.

Thats how it should be! Repurposing blueprints makes the building faster and the zoo more cohesive!

No need to make 7 different mesh fences when you made one good one

Thanks!

I don’t think I’ve ever used lords and ladies before. I’ll have to make sure to add those to my list!

I really like the Japanese Macaque Enclosure. By the Way, is there a Way to encourage them to bathe more? Only seen it so far when they were using Enrichment
It’s actually gibbons 😅
Idk, it might be something like the koalas with climbing. They’re supposed to do something a lot and then they don’t.

Both foxes completely up to date on medical procedures. And we fed them the highest quality food we could.

We finished the fox enclosure early. So on June 18, Kylie arrived. The picture above was taken with a camera on the ground that we were able to controll remotely. Kylie ran deeper into her enclosure right after this was taken.
Blair Jugan we hired to help take care of the foxes. She feeds Kylie often (we need to research more of what she would actually benefit from.) but, Kylie seems to miss her old home... Mrs. Weiss
Hello! This is Mrs. Jugan, I'm writing to inform you that our other fox has arrived. He is much calmer than the female. We were more careful with when he arrived.

We took a pic (to celebrate his arrival) from outside his enclosure for example...
I will keep everyone updated!
HI! Its Mrs. Jugan again! I am glad to say that our female is getting more and more curious around us each day! She seems to be content. :) The male on the other hand...
He is actually very rarely seen by us. So, we will set up a habitat camera...

Kylie and Andreas have since settled in... Kylie loves to run and play and Andreas joins in during feeding times by wagging his tail. They are inseperable from each other. ❤️
In a few weeks we will announce even more cool news!
