No Single Player offline Mode then?

err, no you can't!
solo mode just means you don't meet other players in game, but you're game world is still directly affected by their actions in the dynamic galaxy!
please try to understand the essential difference between online solo and offline single player! .

I fail to see why a dynamic changing universe of data would be worse than a static offline one. But my comment refereed to playing alone. I prefer solo myself. Too many jerks out there. But in solo I don't need to so I'm content the universe will change and be flexible but the human factor wont give me any grief (pun intended).
You are that opposed to human interaction that even dynamic data caused by others annoys you? I'm amazed you can deal with the forums :)

Reading the pledge tier reward, it may be that the disc is the only thing that is DRM free and therefore the installation of the client is not restricted by DRM - playing the game could still require use of the online account code.

That would then be a breach of contract. If you cannot play the game and enjoy the content without being mandated to log in and supply authentication each time, the game is no longer DRM free. They could pack the login details on the disc -technically-, but that's very slippery if they did, and wouldn't permit password changes or whatever.

Not true. Things done by you in your MMO game will effect my SP game. Example: you are exploring and you discover the "ABC System" it will be updated in my game. Maybe I wanted to discover that terrible system...

Sorry, I'm just getting a bit fed up with the melodrama. I did remove the post almost immediately. But thank's for taking it in the spirit it was meant.

All good, and I can understand that (even if I do think it should continue), but it's the (tw-it) bit that did it for me.

And, off-topic, I know, but everyone who's anyone knows that season 2 is the best Blackadder :)

As for you giving out offline advice, the Minimum Specs clearly states Internet Connection.

'Recommended specs are ONLY available for the beta builds'

Enough with this one please, it is irrelevant to the discussion concerning DRM free offline game that was offered, the alpha/beta builds obviously DO require a connection, but that is all the 'current specs' relate to.

No, because that's referring to the online portion and not the offline mode, obviously.
If some could only promise me all this mess would end once they get their refund. But I'm pretty sure they'll break it, watching for the slightest defect ED inevitably will have, and emphasize on this and tell us how they were right and 'us' wrong...

I think if you mean "will Frontier pull another stunt as bad and big as this again", then I'd say count on it. And if you mean: will people who had 'stop whining' and 'it doesn't affect me so shut up GAWD!' type posts directed at them will be right back on here to point this out, well I think you can count on that too.

You have assumed that the use of the online account would be every time the game was played - that might not have been the case (although we'll never know now) - it may simply have been a one-time authentication of the player's right to play the game via the online account (a bit like a Windows installation).

Sorry if I personally offended you maybe my English language skills are not still good enough to post proper snark but this whole thread is starting to get to me with responses from either sides.
I feel like we have been thrown to a pit and are trying to eat each other.

Nah, it's the Internet, bubba. It no means nothing. ^^

Please repeat yourself after the tone thank you....beep..........

What tone, can you explain? I just want my money back, because FD is violating KS terms paragraph 4. Even with this change they could still offer the game DRM free if they let us host our own server. But they chose not to, that is a clear violation of the KS Terms. It has nothing to do with game development or unexpected changes.

No offline mode completely killed my interest in this game. I've requested a refund for my beta order.

I don't suffer from the mental deficiency that turns people into drooling, fungus-like, MMO-zombies. All I wanted was the classic, offline Elite experience. I want the universe to stay static when I turn off the game, as I'd probably play a few nights a week at most. With all the trade/universe data changing constantly even in "online single player" it would be impossible to do any kind of forward planning and even make it impossible for the non-zombie to feel anchored in the game due to everything being mashed up whenever you play after being away from the game for days.

What an awful, pathetic bait and switch Frontier pulled here. Just despicable.

I guess Ian Bell was right about David Braben.

Imagine there were two kickstarters for Elite, One for OFFLINE only version and the other 'Brabens Vision' version (ie. This one)

Which one would would be succesfully funded?
