Update 18 | Update Notes

serious question.. i have 4k hours in this game but never did any guardian or thargoid stuff.. just worked towards getting my carrier, all my pve ships and bubble engineering (not even done colonia yet). I feel really behind on what now seems to be the whole point of the game, i guess i didnt anticipate elite becoming an on-rails story. Is it even worth trying to get into the AX stuff now with no guardian gear or experience with AX combat? feels too late tbh.
I did some of the Thargoid activities while the Titans were still hidden in the Maelstroms then I decided I would take my carrier and go to Colonia and Sag A* now on my way back for a change of pace and view the Spires. I don't have any of the Guardian weaponry or other new AX equipment and I don't really feel the need for it as I am quite happy with my current capabilities.

It might be too late to become the top AX pilot who knows, the question is would not getting deep into that make you unhappy or are you perfectly happy with what you have been doing.

It is the focus of the story currently being told but I have never really played Elite for the stories others are telling.

But what if you have both Frontier and Steam accounts??
IMO, it's better to keep both installs separate, just in case Steam does something funky. My one Steam commander definitely has different graphics than the other two, even though they all share the same settings files. The Steam install is different for some reason.

Seriously, 30 gb for ... that ???
There's not really anything obvious in this update for me, either. The fixes etc are nice, but I've not been playing for a long time, and I've mostly not been involved in Thargoid stuff when I have.

But then I took in the info about what was coming, and what was due in U18, and knew that already. I'm looking forward to stuff that is due later in the year.

I'll get re-aquainted with other aspects of the game 'til then.

U18 is really helping to improve my forum experience though, which is never bad! ;)

But what if you have both Frontier and Steam accounts??
And you have 2 separate installs?

If not, and you originally installed the game via Steam, then just let Steam do the updating.

If you (like me) have an old style Steam account that came with a linked Frontier account, then you still won't need to launch the game via Steam, but updating it is another question.

Thanks FDEV for this update so for. Just checked against any standard stuff I discovered my GFX has more fps in station now (2060 mobile).... so the gui seems faster as well. And one small but nice detail, as I switch my carrier modules on and off pretty often: The focus behaves consistent for all modules now after pressing pause/resume. That's small but nice. Well the update was very smooth and fast.

One question: Where does the updater calculate the download speed from/by/through? It tols me around 19 MB/sec which is about 150+ Mbit/s. But I only got a 100 line. And two of my kids were streaming... Guess it's measured after decompression, right?

And Paul: Like your humour! Don't let any salty comment ever bring you down! There is now evidence that bad attitude solves issues! Cheers to UK!

Ody running smoother here, I would say just as smooth as I remember Horizons.
I'm out towards Beagle point so if there is any new content I probably won't see it till late summer anyway but just grateful that FDev are still improving the game.

It seems NPCs are no longer randomly shooting every which way. This issue introduced in Update 17 is now fixed: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/62015, thank you.

This one, however, remains: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/61052. This is where NPC wing supports won't shoot back, or even defend themselves against fire. Only when the lead ship dies, they'll start attacking back. Not only that but the supports are typically very weak and tend to escape mid fight.

I realize this was not targeted in U18 but just showing how bounty hunting is still not what it was before U16.

(Ahem) players who aren't willing to engage in Thargoid combat is comical. The last year or so has been entirely dedicated to the Thargoid-Human war, what did you expect?

U18 signals the end of the war and the end of this chapter of the story. More will be coming, in the meantime if you still want to whinge and whine, just go play something else.
