Another disappointment

Wow what an update. 30 gb and all we got is more thargoid related crap. When are they gonna figure out most people playing this game couldnt care less about thargoids. What about a new ship or two? how about implementing base building? That is what will attract new players. The ability to stake a claim on a planet and construct your own base would open up the galaxy. It would give people a reason to travel away from the bubble. You could create your own economy depending on your resources. Imagine the possibilities!! But no, all we get are some patches and some nanite torpedoes. Thargoid this and thargoid that. thargoid thargoid thargoid Thanks a lot. Really made my day.
All that has been talked about and found is Thargoid stuff for the conclusion/end game of that story, which is good news for those who aren’t that interested in it.
There are they said at the last live stream 4 new ships/ship variants due this year with different functionality/capabilities, which is great news for everyone except those who said they aren’t interested in more ships.
Base building to be honest interests me less than politics in the game and would drive off new players. Create a new economy thousands of light years from anyone else with just you and a handful of NPCs, providing what to who.

Don't worry, Frontier will move onto something else here after this so you can bemoan that instead

What is elite dangerous?
Its a space sim. Isn't it?
Exploration of the games huge galaxy.
I've educated my grandkids using elites galaxy. Giving them a sense of whats around them.
It's supposed to be a game for all. Pvpers, pvers, ax pilots, haulers, explorers. And so on.
But let's face it, since odysseys release, it's focused on goid wars and on foot pew pew. People left! 1000s of em. Pushing elite into a game played by just 5000 or so at one point. According to steam. Yeah I know that doesn't reflect the true figures but its telling.
Fdevs finances going to the wall. Share prices plummeting. Because 1000s of elite gamers felt the game was going in the wrong direction. Including myself.
This Is how alot of players feel.
It's undeniable.
Cmdrs should be allowed to speak their minds here in forums without reproach.
Ops right.
The game needs new content.
Good grief ha ha

Speaking one's mind is one thing. Concern trolling is quite another... "if we want to get new players then frontier should do y, not this x thing that they have done, and I will flip flop between whatever they're and say that they should be doing this x thing, not the y thing they're doing, thus promoting the idea that Frontier are killing the game by whichever action they take, which concerns me because there's no-one in the world that wants to be successful like I do, honest guv. So if you agree with me and all the other players I just made up that agree with me, then uninstall the game and play star citizen instead. That is the only way to save the game that we love so much; star citi... no I mean Elite.."

The last thing I'll say is that the affording of speaking one's mind without reproach always to occur when trashing the game, even though the update has barely dropped and no-one really knows what's in it yet. But of course we will conveniently forget the time when some folks have posted threads to praise the game only to be decidedly reproached by the self same folks that seem to linger on the forums of conveniently pop up at times such as these.

It seems that you didn't see any of the announcements, discussions and messages in the past weeks here and elsewhere. The whole point of "more Thargoid related crap" is to offer a proper conclusion to the ongoing war, so less crap in your words. New ships will come this year, but nobody said anything about including them in update 18. In fact, the way FDev talked about the new ships seems to imply that those new ships will feature something that's suited for whatever comes after the war.

Tip: A rant is much more effective if you know what you're talking about.

how about implementing base building?
If I want to build a base, I'd play a base building game.

Agree. I logged in for about 30 seconds and saw that major bugs were not addressed so I logged back out. The vast majority of players, based on a few surveys, don’t care about the thargoid nonsense.

The good news is Legacy still remains probably the best space game on the market so I’d suggest playing it until Fdev gets their stuff together. There is real hope that Odyssey will be significantly improved this year, but until then Legacy is where it’s at.

And are you suggesting these same people also don't give a damn about the Elite players who do?
No one is saying they should be ignored. We are saying that players who prefer other content also shouldn’t be ignored. Players who are heavily invested in the thargoid content are a clear minority, yet it feels like Fdev has focused nearly all attention to the thargoid war over the last two years. During the recent live streams, the hosts have refused to respond to, or even acknowledge, any comment or question not related to Thargoids. The blatant and unmistakable ignoring of all other comments has to be by design. My guess is they were told to do so by upper management. As a result, the active player numbers have plummeted and reviews still remain mostly negative.

I'm not attacking the game. Far from it.
Iam attacking those here that say there's nothing wrong. Clearly there is. Has been for along time. You wanna stick your head in the sand feel free. I for one will not. Nor will I or anyone likeminded, be silenced. Freedom of speech.
Just cos some feel differently doesn't make them right, and me wrong.

That doesn't need to be suggested, it's a given. Pretty much no one cares, one way or another, about what others want, except as how it impacts their own experience.

Not caring and not acknowledging are very different things though. Likewise, it's one thing to place one's own wants above the equally subjective wants of others, but a completely different thing to expect anyone else to.

Players who are heavily invested in the thargoid content are a clear minority, yet it feels like Fdev has focused nearly all attention to the thargoid war over the last two years.

The path of least resistance, and lowest expense vs. expected return, is likely to carry this Thargoid narrative through to it's conclusion. It's a sunk cost, but abandoning the results aren't likely to reduce prospective costs, so they may as well use what they've got.

During the recent live streams, the hosts have refused to respond to, or even acknowledge, any comment or question not related to Thargoids. The blatant and unmistakable ignoring of all other comments has to be by design.

Of course it's by design. Livestreams are a marketing tool and you cannot market what you do not have, well unless you're fortunate enough to be Tesla or RSI.

Frontier has Thargoids, so they are going to try to sell you Thargoids. Maybe later they'll have something else.

Although I agree that I don't see where the 30GB went, update 18 was never said to be about the new feature. That will come next. 18 was to close the Goid thing.

Source? Or just I don't care about thargoids and some other vocal people don't so therefore that's most people?

Just to chip in, personally, I don't care about Thargoids, mainly due to the way they were implemented and the mechanics surrounding them. And I do have a long list of things i've been disappointed with about ED over the years. Powerplay, CQC, engineering, etc.

Having said that, it remains for me the best damn space sim out there, despite its flaws, and i don't expect every update to add new content that i'm interested in, and at the end of the day, bug fixes are important.

The Thargoid stuff is coming to an end this year, and for those of us not interested in it, there is now hope for new content that we might enjoy. The powerplay revamp may draw us in, or possibly not. There is the long-awaited feature rework (still to be named) that may interest us, and if nothing else, 4 new ships coming, with, apparently, some new gameplay.

So, i'm not getting worked up just because of a bug fix update. I am waiting to see if FD can pull some magic out of the hat this year though.

Ah, the old "I don't care for something, therefore the vast majority doesn't care either" fallacy. Classic.

It is okay to not like something. Just don't claim nobody cares just because you don't. Also, Elite is still the same sandbox it was before the Thargoid War Arc, just with the caveat that you have to pay attention to where you travel.

Did ED have a long term overarching story line before at all, apart from the political background fluff? My impression was that, before the Salvation/Azimuth/War narrative, ED was just a sandbox with no real story at all. If you have a long running story, you have to choose one and then stick with it. Not everybody might like it, but it doesn't actually take anything away from your sandbox either.

Also also... "vast majority"? Really?

I know 50 people who don't give a damn about the targoids
Really want to play that game? Okay. I know 150 people who do care. I also know a few people who believe the earth is flat, 9/11 was an inside job and Elvis isn't dead. Doesn't make true.

I don't care about PvP in Elite, guess what? Yep i don't do it.
I'm not an AXer but I've followed the story and gathered the modules so that at least i can say 'i was there when'.
Elite has so much to do that if you ignore the Thargoids you probably wouldn't know anything is happening, crack on with other stuff, exploration, mining, Lore, on foot shenanigans.
There's enough stuff to do here for many years without ever touching the bugs of doom.

Peoples lack of content in this game is only restricted by their lack of creativity and imagination.

Just to nip something in the bud here. I'm not sure you know what Freedom of Speech means, it certainly doesn't apply to a privately run forum. This forum has rules that are clearly set out, and that you've all agreed to. And believe me that you get away with a lot more here than other companies would allow. So make sure you all stick by them please.

So let's make today's conversations a bit more chill and understanding please. And if you want to discuss Star Citizen, then go to the Star Citizen thread.
