Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I don't think I'll be able to get a ship set up for this in time...
And my gut has this unpopular opinion that this would be a bad idea, anyway...
It seems that anyone can go watch Taranis' last breath relatively safely.
Didn't knew them personally, but it feels... strange, for some reason.🤔

Oh, I totally buy that. After all, even Raktajino wouldn't help my brain to work better...

Yikes. Haven't had that happen to me, yet. Materials disappearing if I should happen to touch them with one of the wheels, yes. But a violent disintegration? Still on my (not) to-do list...
Usually it just rattles the SRV around and maybe sometimes kicks you up a metre or so and tips you halfway onto your side, occasionally you can get lucky on a lower g world and get some serious elevation. It might depend on how many fragments you detonate.

I was going to say it hasn’t happened to me in ages then my brain caught up, the reason for that is I haven’t used an SRV in ages. I do remember trying to be very careful trying to scoop them not because of the going flying but because of how few fragments remained after it happened.

Yeah, being careful while scooping up the stuff definitely helps keeping the count as high as possible, even if they just disintegrate without any noise or kicking you around.

Yeah, killing Thargoids has always felt sort of awful to me. Maybe because they scream or moan. I don't know.

I've never liked them as an enemy, from a narrative point of view. They are too opaque and animal-like.
I always felt there was a lot more to learn about the Thargoids, and about the Guardians and how the two overlap.

But I also understood, back in the earliest days after their appearance, when FDev said it was basically up to the players how Thargoid stuff would go down, that it was always going to end up in pew-pew's.

I dunno if we'll ever learn more about them (Thargoids and Guardians), but I do occassionally try to delve further into that stuff, though I don't usually get very far.

Though I have (I think!) managed to get Audacity running and recording audio and work the spectrogram function on it.

Time to go find a known Thargoid spectrogram signal and see if I can successfully 'decrypt' it myself, I guess!

I do hope we'll have opportunities to re-engage with these mysteries once the Titan arc is done, beyond following the Thargoids back to whencever they came for more pew-pew's (I can't help feeling '4 new ships with new capabilities' rather leans in that direction, though - as I say, I hope there's more to it than that).

I think there is room for hope...
Having watched that, I can't say I share your optimism, I may even be less optimistic than before I watched it ;)

Buur talks about how dangerous just the environment of Thargoid held space is, even before you have the inhabitants to contend with.

He also talks about the 'end of the Thargoid war' very much as if that will be the definitive end of 'Thargoid stuff', of which I am not convinced.

Then he goes on to say maybe the Python 2 (and perhaps by extension, the other 'new' ships. too - my speculation) maybe incorporate recovered Thargoid tech.

Then later he talks about FDev talking about 'new exploration gameplay opportunities' coming later in the year.

Now, this next bit is all speculation on my part - it should be taken with a healthy hat of tinfoil, and as many anti-space madness meds as you can cram in your cargo hold!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, stringing all that together, what if...

After the Titans are destroyed/driven off (in a couple or three months or so, it looks at the current rate), the Thargoid War 'ends' - the 'goids retreat from the bubble.

But - new exploration! The Permit locked system long rumoured to be 'goid 'homeworlds/region' are now unlocked.

And several manufacturers produce new ships that can opperate in Thargoid space without, or with reduced need for, the prophylactic anti-caustic etc modules, so those CMDR's that want to can pursue the Thargoids and pew-pew them on their home turf.

This leaves the bubble clear of significant 'goid activity to pave the way for PP 2.0 without all that messy corrosive goop getting in the way of humans second favourite sport - political infighting!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I re-iterate that everything between the dashed lines is purest tinfoil space madness cooked up by me, all by myself, in the last 10 minutes. Believe any of it at your own detriment!

No warranty is implied or guaranteed! May contain absolute nonsense, pure speculation, unfavourable outcomes and utter tosh!

A point against all that guff up there is the already declared PVP focus of the Python 2.

I hope I'm wildly off base with these ravings, but at the moment, I'm struggling to see past it

Or -- after the Titans fall, the Thargoids send even bigger, tougher ships and hives and whatnot, and start destroying the bubble everywhere. There are no safe systems any more.

This causes the humans to flee into the black, thus giving them more reason to explore!

Or maybe the PVP drives them away.

Either or :p

It's nice to get back in my Annie.

Dusted off my old maelstrom Clipper today and spent an hour or two pootling peacefully around Taranis. Gathered some mats for the heck of it. Nice to poke around properly without being shot at! The only damage I took was down to careless driving (and the NPC ships immediately fixed the dents anyway).

Will pop back later for the big event of course.
Remember what it is like logging in immediately after an update.

Log in early to avoid disappointment as the servers strain under the overload.

Yeah I did the same, I found it rather stress free tbh, the Thargs just don't seem to aggro much. Although they did like firing off the old energy pulse a lot, at points I was stun locked for several minutes, but they never attacked me. I went in hopes of rescuing some trapped souls still in the Titan, but alas I just couldn't get the hang of it. Most of the time the missile wouldn't land in the correct spot and when it did I faffed up the mini game. Not helped by the clippers off centre hardpoints. Hey ho.
Not sure if I will bother tbh, might catch "the big moment" on Bro Sabs stream or similar.

As an aside: Do you ever have "one of those days" in Elite? Nothing has gone according to plan today! Even the BGS faction I have been trying to support has gone into a war with the faction below us in the system and I just cannot be arsed.
Maybe its the universe telling me too stop playing video games today :ROFLMAO:

Edit: I got off my a@@e and watched the light show-even managed to rescue 13 poor souls before the end. Really glad I did. That was awesome Fdev, congratz and thanks to all who worked on that! x
