Taranis Enters Meltdown

So, did I miss the party? :(
Well… sort of. The moment of shooting Taranis is over and it’s currently busy trying to stay alive long enough to evacuate any Thargoids and ships that remain onboard. Or it sure looks that way.

(Whether they’re bothering to take the pods of captives with them is unknown. You can still do the thing of recovering them though. Until the Titan either shuts down or its core goes bang.)

I never thought this was going to be over so soon. I didn't have time to get involved during the week. I was hoping it would last at least through the weekend. :(

It's relatively safe there now, so if you need some tissue samples or such then now is the time.

"Relatively" indeed. :ROFLMAO:

Well, as stated, the shooting is done, but after you've made it through the corrosive cloud, it now seems to be perfectly safe to hang around the ailing thing, and wait to see what some portion of 30GB worth of fireworks might look like, 15-ish hours from now... Got there a moment ago myself, just to do some disaster touristing -- looted the beach for some seashells and protected wildlife eggs, whilst I was loitering about, anyway... :p
Picked up one of those lifepod prybars too, in case those are still around, but can't seem to figure out where to use it... :p

Did I go to a different Taranis? I got there and was immediately swarmed by dozens of... everything. Didn't last 5 minutes.

Hmm... I play solo... maybe NPC behaviour is different between modes, for some reason..? Every Thargoid scarpered in a straight line, right out of the launch tube, while I was there, and there were several rescue ships covering me with plasters, over my tiniest self-inflicted bruise... :p

Interesting. I was in AXI PG; will try in Solo.

Ok, WTH is this??

I've been boosting for 10 minutes and that thing keeps getting further and further away. What gives?

PS: 2nd rebuy screen. Screw this.

You have to ignore the location indicator since it's jumping around like a mad rabbit and just fly straight at the big red cloud when you first drop at it. You'll see one section of the storm that's a bit redder and rounder than the rest with more lightning in it. That's your target.
Once you make it far enough, you'll come to an asteroid field and stop taking caustic damage. At that point it's just a matter of finding the big "Titan-shaped" wreckage in the dust (which is sometimes harder than you'd think).
There are also NPCs, both human AX and escaping Thargoids, who might also help point the way to go.

Before your will insult other people I could recommend learning some mechanics.

In fact, we killed the WEAKEST titan in NEARLY WEEK.
Assaulting taranis started at patch day, at monday. Now we have nearly saturday.
Monday, tuesday and thursday. For 3 days taranis had "moderate" resistance. For 2 days "high.
We still have 7 other titans, often with extremally high or max resistance, what can means weeks of preparation via liberating occupied systems, or much longer beating them down.
Don't worry, noone steal your precious arx. You have plenty of time, probably months.
Wow, that triggered you. And let's be sure about the mechanics: Update 18 dropped on 26 Feb. That's 3 days of being able to actually damage a Titan until destruction. I can recommend learning to count.

Edit: the galnet news article telling people to target Taranis (also on Facebook) was on 29th which gave people exactly... counting... counting... 1 day to participate.

Hey, back when we called them Stargoids, we could detect them with our scanners from incredibly far away. That must have been because it was using a massive amount of energy, so much we could detect it before it even got close, right?
So uh, how much energy is this thing going to detonate with? How far?

And some of us are into fairly dedicated RP. Which makes your comment just come across as a little ignorant.
just to play devil's advocate: The original comment could be read as somewhat derogatory and condescending towards the players who - mainly - enjoy a video game and it's game loops. Nobody wants to take away your role play, but face it: There is a RP forum section where you can go nuts, and the rest of the forums are more or less non-RP. If I come to the RP section and answer all the tinfoiling there with "it's a game" I'm clearly trying to disrupt the forums. I think it goes at least little bit the other way too.

Just to clarify, AXI and the Defence Council for Humanity had picked Taranis out as the target before the update went live. Once the update dropped and the Galaxy Map confirmed that Taranis had the lowest defence, then everyone piled on it.
Then during the stream on the 28th (with over 15,000 viewers) Arf told us all to concentrate on Taranis.
Then on the 29th the communications went out.
In the last 24 hours there have been over 7,670 commanders in the system, and that only counts people using INARA!

Taranis was the weakest of the Titans, being the focus for all experiments as it was the first to arrive. It only had 6 controlled systems and had a resistance of Medium for the first three days, on the weekly tick (29th) it went to 7 and High.
The next lowest Titan is Leilong that has 14 control systems and resistances of Very High, and the rest have up to 122 controlled systems and resistances of Maximum.

If you really think that the rest are going to go down the same speed as the first, then you are very mistaken.
