Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Here's a few moments in the life of Cmdr 0threeleven (6 1/2 minutes) and how I deal with an 8 vs 1 ambush. I rake 'em with fire to get them PO'd at me then boost like the wind, I wait for the NPC cops to show, you can see their arrival on the comms telling everyone to submit to a scan, the Reavers reply "say hello to my lil friend" then it's a full on fur ball. I had a Cobra slam into me at a full boost and bounce off. As I like to say, never a dull moment in Colonia.
Great vid!

Ty, that Cobra slamming into my nose at full speed startled me, I'm surprised there isn't more of those with such an intense melee. I'm not very popular with Milanov's Reavers.

Thank you most kindly, it’s really good to know that a video is getting more than just the typical “first 30-60 secs” YT viewing stats :)
…but yep, in a much media & video-jaded age, most viewers’ attention spans don’t seem to last much beyond a minute, if that, unless the material really grabs them - hence the countless YT meta-video’s explaining just how important it is to grab viewers’ attention with something-flashy-ASAP /o\
Yeah, I noticed that behaviour on my videos, too, even the short ones.
Ofc, i’m enough of a nerd (and hopeless ED fanatic) to rewatch game recs myself, heck even spending much precious time editing & posting the stuff online… :D
I'm in the same boat, sort of, sometimes spending several hours watching a game livestream or watching others' videos of playing games I don't (like GTA5), sometimes picking up a copy of those games (like FH4 and ED:H/O), because I liked what I saw.
The editing was something I started because I was curious to learn something new...
…might have something to do with the fact that i’m “the wrong side of 50”, but personally i feel that this is the road to hell: more ever-more kinetic/flashy media with ever less sense of pace, space or real content ;p
I don't like this idea, either.
Wait, there's a wrong side of 50?
Although I have to admit that this sometimes happens to me, too, that I start watching something and find myself closing the tab with the video again. Usually because it was something that didn't match my expectations fueled by the title and/or thumbnail.
I think it’s probably enough material for a good 10-15 min final edit, ie: with the right pace to feel the final moments leading up to the “explosions”, and to leave one wondering just what happened, as some of us did after… without lagging/lingering to the point that most/many just skip through or away to something else ;]
I would love to see that.

This is a pretty cool video, StarEngine, it's one continuous shot and looks amazing. I'm not sure if it's a game or a gaming engine, I thought it was interesting.
I think I would call it "Machinima" - there's a lot of talk about the CryEngine fork in this thread (umm, and "a lot" to the tenth power other talk about the project :D ):

Looks fun, might get into a couple of scraps, when/if I get to Colonia or the bubble some time. :)
I was lucky, none of my opponents used chaff,
My 1st thought when watching the video: "What's wrong with these 'reavers', they don't spam chaff like NPCs usually do when fired on with gimballed weapons?" :D

Looks like a demo of Star Citizen’s visual generation engine? Very pretty and pretty darn impressive… Dear FD, when can we have some clouds around a planet, ie: not just hanging in space or around a gigantic alien mothership? 🤓

I make a point of watching good stuff all the way through to the end of the credits - and, with ever more good stuff out there with the extraordinary pace of digital/online media evolution, call me biased, but I also make a point of watching my friends’/colleagues’ work through from start to finish… :)

You were on Twitch before playing ED? I must’ve been seriously out of touch, gaming away & still text-chatting away with friends on our venerable old UT server… then one day i heard about this reboot of Elite in a Wired Ars Technica gaming article iirc - I played it for some years in solo, was about to consider it “complete” for my own purposes, when a few friends from other games joined and I started a PG for our squad… this lead to dropping by this forum more often and mustering up the courage to post pics and say stuff - here i heard about this thing called a “live stream” and finally discovered the brave new world of Twitch… ;)

I don't like this idea, either.

It used to be this side - with hindsight, it seems to be the other way round…? ;]

Thank you again …will get back to the cutting room this week i hope :]

That's very commendable.

I started watching streams on Twitch way before the pandemic hit. Somewhere around 2017 or so, I think.
I'm playing ED since 2022. I knew about the franchise for quite some time, but never found my way into it. Until YT started to show me some ED videos on the homepage, sparking my curiosity. What I saw and heard there was intriguing enough for me to look around where I could get it. Well, I found it on steam, which was lingering on my computer because of another game I tried but never really came to terms with. When a sale dropped the price for ED:H by some 60odd% to a manageable 6€someting, I pounced.
It used to be this side - with hindsight, it seems to be the other way round…? ;]
Quite honestly, I'm not entirely sure about this "border". In the end, it is just a number.
Thank you again …will get back to the cutting room this week i hope :]
Take your time. :)

Something like this might help.
I hate those ships on the side of the pirates, when I'm running from their ambush I'll turn around and take a couple of shots at them flashing through their pack and way back behind them is a T-10 lumbering along looking like a city block coming at you. It reminded me of when the elephants got loose in Jumanji, the rhinoceros the was way behind them smashing cars. They are very hard to take out, I get a pit in my stomach when one attacks me, they'll take up to half of my cannon ammo.
