Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Am I the only one who wouldn't mind if we only got 1 WTE bird and the game end? I would rather get a bird of some sort like a macaw or toucan than a second sloth or another exhibit box animal which are mostly useless to me.
Ill take it for the mod potential that's it really, any actual bird desire with me lies with habitat birds. Knowing frontier it will be some obscure bird that only fits in a very specific zoo build.

Personally id prefer to get classic exhibits since i neither need a third bat, second sloth or another batch of butterflies and would rather see the extra worktime of an WE go towards the habitat animals

Genuinely curious, if we got flying birds in Walkthrough Exhibits what do you think the limitations should be? Which birds would be aviary and which would be habitat. This might sound silly but its a genuine question.
Walkthrough exhibits:
  • Macaws, Cockatoos, and African Grey Parrots are all large and similar. They would be good in a WE.
  • Smaller parrots, lorikeets, sun conures, rose-ringed parakeets, and budgies would also be another good WE set.
  • Toucans (Keel-billed and toco especially) and hornbills would be good WE birds, too.
  • Smaller ones like passerines and hummingbirds are possible, but not probable in my eyes. Similarly, I don't expect shorebirds, but they could also work.
Outdoor and WE-sized but not walkable exhibit:
  • Eagles: Bald, Golden, Stellar's sea, and harpy are all good ones that share sizes and behaviors. They'd be great to have, but they're probably the biggest bird that could humanely go in a WE.
  • Owls: The most requested snowy, Eurasian eagle, burrowing, and barn owls are all very different, but I think they would be widely loved.
  • Falcons/hawks: At least a peregrine falcon would be popular.
  • Oddballs: Kookaburras, ravens, and hoatzins would be so cool.
Needs something bigger:
  • Vultures/Condors: Unless we're assuming they are injured birds that cannot fly, I think they would need something much bigger.
Could go either way, WE or habitat
  • Ibises: They're small and typically kept in aviaries. Scarlet, sacred, bald, and Madagascar would be a great set.
  • Spoonbills: Similar to the ibises, I could see them going either way.
  • Asian pheasants: The golden, Lady Amherst's, silver, Reeves's, and common pheasants would be nice. They are often kept in enclosed spaces. While I'd love them as a habitat animal, I think we'd get more varieties if they came in a WE. Modders could honestly make the others, though, so a habitat golden pheasant would probably be the best case.
Definitely habitat:
  • Large wading birds: Cranes, storks, flamingos, herons, and pelicans should all be habitat animals.
  • Waterfowl: Other swans and ducks should go into habitats.
  • Domestic Fowl: Chickens, turkeys, guineafowl.
  • The rhea and any other penguins should go into a habitat.

I would be really disappointed if any of these were given to us as WTE species.

Yeah exactly. I don't understand why people keep picking them for WTE. We have peafowls and flamingos for habitat why would spoonbills and pheasants be for WTE ? Scarlet ibises are small and sure they fly and perch but they would work fine for habitat. Flamingos fly, cranes fly and perch, and blue penguins are tiny and they are all habitat.

Habitat is generally better, but I'll happily take them in WE's over not at all. I don't know what it takes for the devs to make them. If it's easier to get a lot of birds quickly that way I wouldn't mind too much. If the effort is about the same, I would usually prefer a single habitat animal.

Also while doing some research on past packs for upcoming videos I'm currently looking at the forum posts for the 2023 DLC announcements and some of the comments underneath that were disappointed of the rosters like Tropical and Arid, kinda making me even more nervous about the upcoming pack. If its the last one, I'm more confident because I have faith that they know what we want, but if its not the last pack and they choose to mix in their own choices like 2023, oh boy.

But was that really surprising? I feel like it was pretty obvious that tropical and arid had some dissapointed comments, oceania will probably also have a few with the exclusion of the tree kangaroo as one of the fan favorites and the stream teasing pointing to a bird in the WE. Im pretty sure you will find dissaponted comments under every DLC post

Surely the dlc releases has had some form of disappointment since well probably arctic. Poor roster decisions, high expectations, lack of attention to birds and actually needed exhibit animals and even the global range of the forum playerbase is going to lead to disappointment one way or another. A bunch of people upset for the next dlc is expected as it's simply impossible to please everyone.

I know I'm just saying that it seems like more people have been disappointed with the more recent packs than ones before that which I hope doesn't reflect how this next pack turns out.

I think thats a pretty normal phenomenon. As we are getting closer to the end, the chances for animals that didnt make the cut to get included in a later pack get lower each time. So naturally the opinions on the "wrong" choices (from ones personal point of view) get stronger each time aswell.

Therefore i think its pretty safe to assume that the final pack will have the biggest amount of dissapointed commets of all the packs, regardless of how good or bad it will be

As the game gets further along I think it’s fair some people were getting more confused by some of the roster choices. Definitely a cool animal, but to this day I don’t know why we got the horned viper. I think what hasn’t helped is the same issues since the games launched have mostly been the same:

  1. Lack of monkeys (capuchin was nice, but the proboscis monkey was …. Interesting)
  2. Lack of birds (to be honest getting the emu, kiwi, crane, and swan helped a ton)
Obviously both got a bit fixed over time, but not enough to go without noticing the glaring holes in the roster. Since 2019 we got almost every flavor of dog, cat, crocodilian, bear, great ape, and ungulate. While not necessarily a bad thing, the issues at launch have just stayed the same.

If this is the last dlc so much rides on it, i have been doing everything to temper my expectations but even then I’m bracing for disappointment. Every time I make a dlc I can’t help but add a handful of birds, there is so much that is needed. But going off of Frontiers track record I’ll be lucky to get two in one pack. Considering none of us know if this is the final pack, or what this final pack dlc will look like, it doesn’t help the speculation and build up.

Last time I manifested I got the swan, I’m just gonna try harder this time!

Dear Frontier,

Whenever this dlc releases feel free to consider as many of these as my birthday present(s)

It’s gonna be an endangered species pack, and it’s gonna be the Guam rail. You created this reality. You willed this into existence!!!!

(I wouldn’t be angry to get this along a lot of other birds though)
