PVP ACTIVITIES

I sincerely believe that people only come here to troll.
Some do yes, but mine was a fair question.
Im a very experienced PvPer, but i chose not to do it in Elite.
When WOW first started there were no war zones, we all went to the Crossroads for PvP fun, we made our own PvP content.
If folks here want PvP why not make your own? its a fair question 🤷‍♂️

I will answer with another question.
Why if you are an experienced pvper, have you decided not to do PvP in elite dangerous?

"I don't understand why you players who don't like pvp come in here."

Because the PvP players want to change the game for their benefit.
Such changes are actively resisted by those not interested in PvP as they do not want PvP to impact their gaming experience/playstyle adversely. If there was not such resistence, it might be taken that the community was speaking with one voice demanding more PvP.

The game does not have any activities that are intended for pvp.
What problem would you have for example , for frontier to include something in the game for pvp players.
Imagine some kind of activity with POIs for people to pvp and earn in-game credits.
Funny you should mentions credits...
Try Bounty Hunting players, you could earn up to a massive 2 million credits if you succeed in blowing one up - naturally, the ones with the biggest bounties are, generally speaking, those with the best combat skills too.

Why, it is even rumoured that PP 2.0 will incorporate gameplay for PvP players.

Buckyball'ers make their own fun, people race SRV's across planets, indeed making your own fun in ED has been a feature since the game was released, so it's a valid thing do make your own PvP fun indeed.

What would affect you, an in-game pvp activity?
I really don't understand your attitude.
I'm not talking about changing the game.
Imagine it's a theme park and each type of customer has an attraction for them.
What does it take away from you that they put an attraction in the park for those who do pvp?

I started life in Everquest (still play it) pure PVE raiding in a very successful guild, i thrive on challenges.
I have no interest in pew pew, i was solely a fantasy game player.
WOW came out and had PvP, folks in the early days were fun, the PvP was consensual and we did 1 v 1s, or stand outside Ogrimar and do small scale battles.
It was a community, i met some of those guys/gals in real life, i was hooked on PvP and became one of the best Warlocks on the server.

ESO came out i was one of the first to attain Emperor before faction rigging, Grand Overlord, Volendrung bla bla bla, yes i burned out.
I came to Elite because i have always been into space stuff and i played back in 84 as a teenager,

So Elite is my chill out explore/trade/PP place.

There's also another reason, for fair PvP you need balance, Elite will never have balance as it was developed for PVE and lets be honest there are too many folks out there doing, shall i say, strange things in game to get an advantage, its not anywhere near a level playing field.

That said if i was into PvP here it wouldn't be difficult to set up a battleground like the Crossroads, heck we do dabble a little sometimes in my PG group for a laugh.

PvP in Elite has quite a bit of balance, really. It's just that the meta is very clearly defined and shifting beyond that usually does not pay off well. Elite also favors the runner, since waking out before your shields drop is easy and high wakes aren't effected by MLF. Securing a kill on well built ships, who are paying attention, and don't want to die, is a tricky thing.

What might be seeming unfair in Elite's PvP is deep build theory that is being used to make builds that do things you aren't expecting. However, I have never seen someone post a build that isn't able to be countered by those wishing to counter it unless they were using something that was broken and has now been patched. And I've been here a long long time.

So why the lack of genuine organised PvP then, honest question.

I believe that those not wishing to be involved in non consensual PvP would become content/victims for others if certain kinds of changes be made.
I really don't understand your attitude.
I have an opinion on the subject under discussion and put it forward so that the demand for change does not go unchallenged.
I'm not talking about changing the game.
Imagine it's a theme park and each type of customer has an attraction for them.
PvPers can organise events in anarchy systems and run a variety of scenarios, so no changes are required.
What does it take away from you that they put an attraction in the park for those who do pvp?
I believe that I would be forced into the theme park to be the attraction (victim). This would not benefit me, just others.

I take the view that some suggestions to improve PvP are Trojan Horses. Might seem like a good idea at the time but have calamitous consequences. But, I am no Cassandra.

It looks like you've been here about 3 years. So, basically, you've just missed most of it. The golden age of pvp in Elite was years ago. Ganking has always been common of course, but early on it was at some level, let's say "very common". A bunch of PvP people and maybe even PvE people who just wanted to help, flipped San Tu into Anarchy and people just met in Open and dueled, chatted, etc. You could just fly to San Tu and get fights whenever you wanted. Everyone who knew about PvP at that time knew to direct interested parties to San Tu and the PvP hub. Yes, ganking still happened after San Tu became Anarchy, but groups had a structure and place to do stuff. There were also annual leagues and it was a pretty big deal for people who cared. This video by a long ago famous PvP player is 6 years old but is still referenced today because it's still accurate and good stuff. So this kind of organization existed in the past
.

This Reddit post advertising San Tu and the PvP hub is 4 years old and that was after it fell out of Anarchy and had to be brought back for PvP players to have a hub. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/gnafsq/pvp_hub_welcomes_ed_arena_to_san_tu/

but if you look at San Tu now, it's not Anarchy afaik.

So, what happened? The people who did this stuff moved on. That's basically it. PvP hubs have existed and used to do very well, tournaments were held, streams were held, man one dude had the Fuel Rats come fuel him mid fight because his FDL ran out of gas iirc even. Can you imagine that Rat Signal? hahaha! People moved on and all of the organized PvP framework existed more or less in spite of game mechanics and not because of it. It was always work to keep going.

So, while I'm no longer in PvP, that's a big reason I think the game would benefit from a mechanic that did this for players. Cash, Scoreboards, locations to fight at that are guaranteed, etc. Rope in Powerplay too why not. Maybe that's coming in the update, who knows. But, what I'm getting at, is this stuff did used to happen, it's just it had to be kept up by players. Once they moved on for other things or other games that didn't require them to do all of the work just to PvP, it went away with time.

I will add on, recently Rambo of the 13th Legion did organize a PvP league that had quite a few people turn up. This stuff is kind of out there, but it's not like it used to be.

Star Citizen gathered a chunk of EDs PvP community, allegedly, although I have no idea how many, or if they have stayed. But it is quite funny to see many ships waiting outside of the starports 'exclusion zone' hoping to have PvP fun with other players flying out.

It fell a while back - I recall joining in the fight for the system a few years back, on the side of anarchy, naturally, when the PvP group(s) active there asked for support.
Too bad it fell out. It was really cool to see the videos of people doing stuff in the really high level league fights, very impressive stuff. Or the funnier ones with "rock counters" in the upper corners of the screen. I suspect that age of Elite is behind us, but I could be wrong. Nowadays old players like me just do our thing unless we already have a group. (groups like new players more than old ones sometimes I think)

I think SC did snag a lot of pirates. The boarding videos are something else. But other "dogfighters", I too have no idea. Eve and DCS probably snagged some too. Oh well. Elite is a gem to me so I keep coming back.

I should add on to my add-on that back in the day, Community Goals were every week like clock work. Almost every single week there was a CG of some kind. Traders who wanted to tangle with pirates knew where to go, pirates knew where to go, bounty hunters knew where to go, gankers knew where to go, etc etc etc. The news people knew where to go! If you wanted to scrap, you knew where to go. Or, if you wanted to trudge the death march of super cruise with pirates, gankers, bounty hunters, and everyone in between, the Galaxy Map was your ticket to fun.

You saw a lot of the same names, but everyone knew that Friday night if you wanted to go get into a fight or two, you knew exactly where to point the FSD.

what a wonderful, valuable, informative and impactful thread...

maybe they could do something like the Faction warfare of EVE, I think if they implemented some kind of pvp activity and tightened up the crime and punishment system a lot, it would be beneficial to the game.
ive never played eve, nor intend to.
c&p is one of the few systems that could use some remake.
but besides that id like to hear more about specific game-side mechanism that you would like to be implemented, if you have any.
im asking this specifically because (at least from my pov) elite likes to act like a social sandbox mmo. what the game provides is a platform for us to organise and create activities and events for ourselves. and in that regard i think that the game is providing a good amount of opportunity for pvp to happen. and pvp does happen and if you want to play pvp there is nothing stopping you...
so what kind of system do you think this game is lacking, that you could not make yourself?
