Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I couldn't help but notice that the Steam DB for Planet Zoo was recently updated. Considering it's been four months since the last DLC, surely this means that the next DLC is coming soon, right?

Maybe? It shows they are working on it at least. To be honest but no one but Frontier knows when this dlc will come out. It just has to come out before the end of May.

They could have been working on it for awhile now, and are only recently updating steam. So who knows.

Well here is a fun question: of all of the “impossible” options which do you think we are most likely to get in the final dlc?
No playing it safe, you have to pick one!
  1. Birds in the WTE
  2. Fish, either habitat or exhibit box
  3. Full aquatic habitat animals, think the manatee
  4. Anything above 12 animals in the final dlc
2 > 4 > 1 > 3 from most to least likely. Fully-aquatic exhibit box animals are completely possible; we have one already in the axolotl. Conversely, I think the odds of a manatee or sea turtle are zero.

As most likely, out of these impossible options, I'm going with anything above 12 animals in the DLC.

As far as what I'd personally want though, it would definitely be birds in the WTE. As much as I'd want other habitat animals, getting medium sized types of birds would be the thing that I would consider is the addition to making the most realistic zoos possible.

Birds in the walkthrough exhibit. Jurassic world evolution had the same scenario adding 1 bird into the game as a teaser for the sequel I can’t see why they can’t do the same thing here with macaws.

  • Given how close we are to 200 animals, I think getting at least 20 animals in the final DLC or across multiple DLCs is highly likely.
  • Some birds in a WTE would be a quick and popular way to boost that number, so I still think they are possible. I doubt we'll get too many though. If we got birds in the WTE, it would probably just be macaws and lorikeets.
  • If they want to do a coastal pack, I could see them adding a manatee and some fish in the exhibit box, but I think these two are far less likely than the first two.

Yes, that's my logic behind getting more than 12 animals as well. Granted, it's a thin hope, but those of us thinking of 20 animals are most likely considering the 200 animals mark as the reason why we'd get 20 more animals. And if it's not just one more pack but two more packs? I think it's very likely, especially if the next pack is an animal pack. That would put us to 188. I really doubt they give us a final animal pack as well, and stop at a 196 animal roster. Same for scenery packs actually. 193 animals would be an odd number to stop on as well.

One final animal pack makes a little more sense, that would put them stopping at 188 animals in the roster, but still, that's why I call this a thin hope, and the question did note that all of the choices were "impossible". So out of the 4 choices, it makes the most sense to me.

Call me positive but I think almost all of them are still possible.

We know the last pack will always be more expensive and have more content. An easy way to do this is more animals (even if it's just a few clones in there). We've already had the grasslands pack with 12 animals which was a normal pack, so I wouldn't be shocked if we get 12 or even more again for the final pack. An easy way to get to that number is what they did with the butterflies. I can totally see them doing the same with birds in WTE.

And even fish in exhibits still seem like a good option, tho I think there's less signs for them working on that. Fully aquatic animals in habitat I'm not counting on anymore

Number 4. Everything else just doesnt make to much sense to start in the last dlc.
Just needs 10 habitat animals and a couple exhibits, which isnt super likely either, but still more reasonable than the rest.

I try to veer away from my own speculation because I'm almost always wrong lol, but at this point, I'll just give my two cents on the possible formats of this upcoming DLC:
  1. Classic Scenery Pack (5 animals, scenery) - Possible, but I think it would have been more likely had the pack came out last month or this. Assuming, this is the last pack, cutbacks or not, I'm sure Frontier will want to send us off with something a bit bigger.
  2. Classic Animal Pack (8 animals) - Very unlikely, I don't think Frontier will want to leave builders hanging without any new pieces
  3. Scenery Pack + Animal Pack (8 animals, scenery) - Likely and a reasonable expectation imo
  4. Scenery+Animal Bundle (13 animals, scenery) - This is the one I'm hoping for the most, especially considering with the console season, it'd be a bit odd to have one odd-numbered pack left out of the bundles we're seeing roll out. Plus considering a May release seems inevitable, it'd essentially serve as both the Spring and Summer DLC.
  5. Much larger, expansion pack (13+ animals, scenery) - Possible, but with the cutbacks and focus on the console, I wouldn't hold my breathe for it, but it wouldn't completely discount it either
  6. Support continues in normal fashion for 4 packs throughout 2024 - uh, idk, but maybe?

I mean Frontier had never done a 20 animal pack before, but imagine Planet Zoo being able to boast about having 200 available species (available with a wallet lmao)

Certainly makes it seem likely. Still I wouldn’t get any high hopes over it, it’s a nice thought but we have nothing substantial to base it on other than “this seems nice”.

Honestly this is what I hope for too, and doesn’t seem to unlikely either. If grasslands gave us 12 species another pack can as well. Obviously that means this dlc will rely on a lot of the same type of animal, which wouldn’t be a bother to me if they are picked well. Or maybe instead of pulling a grasslands we actually get more habitat animals than usual, which I can also see as possible.

Of course speculation is just speculation, and I don’t think we will have any evidence of what the next pack could be for awhile now. Considering the console release, I don’t think Social Media will give us any clues anytime soon.

Usually Frontier treats PZ and JWE like sister games, if one gets a dlc another is close to follow. Of course Frontier can break this trend whenever.
Actually it is related to PlanCo and how they found specific dates to boost their sales. Both games release usually close to each other for this reason, not due to Frontier sister treatment.

Either way it doesnt explain why JWE2 getting expansion would somehow mean PZ is getting 2 more packs. Especially to reach as useless metric as 200 animals hidden mostly behind paid DLCs. I bet PZ2 will include these few missing species to reach said number and then Frontier will be actually able to bragg about having huge roster. For now it doesnt matter how many species there are.
