Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Has there ever really be a connection between a community challenge and the new SLC? It is talked about every time, but I can't remember it being true once
There was last time, but it's not 100% sure if this has been a continuous thing or that it will keep being a thing since the changes in CMs.

I genuinely hope it's not something like that though, I just want my coati already 😂

Rivers swamps and marshes are all in North and South America, Americas pack case closed lol

But seriously it’s not gonna be another pack that is a literal synonym of the wetlands pack. Maybe coastal, that was my original prediction before we knew this could be the final pack.
I am so down for an aquatic/ Wetlands part 2 electric boogaloo.

Not to mention, if the community challenge is related to being on the waters edge what is one of the largest river systems in the world and also from a very unfulfilled region in the world?

Also something good to remember is that just because the pack is theme around something it doesnt have to entirely consist of it.
Like eurasia was themed around winter even tho the only taiga or true cold climate animal was the wolverine.
Or how oceania was themed around tropical beaches even tho only the bat really is a tropical animal and only the penguin lives on beaches.

So i can totally see a SA pack themed around the amazon river even tho it only has one real semi aquatic animal like a turtle or ibis and the rest are just the usual tropical SA suspects

Here is a thought for an Amazon pack:
  1. Squirrel monkey
  2. White faced saki
  3. Ocelot
  4. Red rumpled agouti
  5. Giant river turtle (Arrau)
  6. White faced whistling duck (teehee 😜)
  7. Scarlet ibis
  8. WTE: scarlet macaw

So why do you guys think Frontier has an aversion to monkeys?
Do you think it might be due to technical limitations or something like that, or more so because of more casual players might not care for them as much (people finding monkeys creepy looking due to their similarity to humans).

I’m gonna guess that it’s due to a number of these:
  1. The devs at frontier are really good at some animals, and with budgetary and time constraints these are what they gravitate too. Basically I think it’s one of the reasons that ungulates and Carnivora is so common. It would be harder for them to make a flamingo clone than an antelope clone is how I see it.
  2. It could be something with the tails, or simply put the climbing system is glitchy so they don’t like to work with it much.
  3. I think the number of people put off by monkeys is smaller than the amount who love them, but it could be due to wishlists and rankings. I know it’s debatable if Frontier uses them at all, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they picked the animals that we got. Especially when we left ABC animals and got into red river hogs, tasmanian devils, and cape porcupines. So I think the fact there was no “central monkey” may have played a part in it.

Honestly i never saw this as a valid reason. I mean how many are there really that dont care for monkeys or find them creepy? I cant imagine its substationally more that those who dont care for cats or find antelope boring. Youll find someone for every single animal or group that doesnt like them.
Monkeys are such quintessetnial and staple zoo animals and its just completely silly that they are neglected the way they are

I feel like it has been mostly a case of not realizing the big difference between apes and monkeys. I'm sure they have realized that over time but now they already filled the game with apes, so they will now avoid monkeys since parts of the fanbase see any monkey as a clone. Therefore it is easier to pick other animals as clones since they are easier to make.

There's been a few where it's been connected, others that have a loose/tenuous connection, and others that didn't connect at all. The last few have been in the ballpark... But this is kinda generic enough that I'm guessing it doesn't mean anything.

But just watch. The pack will contain a single semi-aquatic species and people will point and say they saw it coming.

I'll eat my hat if the coati isn't in the next pack. Haha. They'd be picking quite the moment to throw the meta wishlist out the window if they went with a semi-aquatic pack or whatever. Haha. :ROFLMAO:

Also how the hell did the Hamadryas baboon get booted to #10 on the 2024 meta wishlist? I know frontier probably won’t even look at this list cause it’s too late but no way Markhor and Musk Ox are higher than one of the best primates we don’t have 😭😭😭

(Spider monkey in the top 6 is good though)

You know how I feel about the musk ox at this point but... I get why the people who do like it want it. The bigger surprise to me is how high up the spectacled bear is even after we got the sloth bear.

I mean, it's a fantastic bear and all. I just wouldn't have expected it to be that high up. The musk ox is unique enough that I wouldn't expect getting a similar animal to knock it down any.

Also: What happened to the walrus and why couldn't that have dropped in popularity sooner?

In fact. Remove the bear and the baboon. Add tamarin and mara in there and i can deal with those being the final 10 animals (although still want duck and pelican)
