Titan Oya Rewards

Fdev added one one week limit (which they didn't have initially) because of:
  • Players cheesing the game by just tagging all 8 Titans now so they didn't need to do anything

I would think tagging all 8 titans at maximum resistance is hardly "doing nothing".

What difference does it make when you do damage to the titans or in what order? 2 mil damage is 2 mil damage. In fact, I give more credit to anyone who does that at max resist than when it's completely vulnerable; one clumsy 3-vent run can get you over 3 mil.

  • Other players failing to understand 'shoot titan - get rewards' and wanting more complicated rules :)eek:)

Again: "shoot titan at any time, get rewards". It doesn't get any simpler than that.

So basically it's all down to the players, as usual.

Enjoy!
"Just tagging" at maximum resistance to get 2M is a bit of an understatement. Together with what happened at Oya - jumping from high to zero resistance - this is indeed a ridiculous FOMO machine. In this light, the 3 times "we can't fix a crucial bug, so we skip the rule" is even more hilarious.

the bar has been set so low, yet some players still need to limbo with the devil in hell...

tagging each titan in one lazy afternoon and then rake rewards through the months as others pull the weight is probably not an intended gameplay...

rewards are for competing. competing in a competition. competition lasts one week. rules are set. adhere to them, or else...

I get what you mean, but I don't think lazily tagging in the last week when it's really easy and doing nothing towards the rest of the campaign is intended gameplay either.

I wouldn't call it a competition. For the Arx, yes, that should stay as it is, but not for the livery. 2m is a fart in a hurricane.

A better approach would be to remove the time limit and therefore the FOMO element, but to increase the damage requirement to something that requires a sustained attack, which can be done when people have the time to play. 10m for example. This would require significant effort at high resistance, but still be easy to get in the final week when you can do 7m+ per run in a standard Krait build.

Or allow Titans to recover/repair slowly so that damage done long enough ago would have lost its effect then remove the fixed time limit.

A similar effect but looking a lot less arbitrary.

I think you will find a single attack run, from adjacent system, hyperdiction, second jump, at least one supercruise inderdiction, maelstrom cloud ingress through pulses, heat vents, pineapple, maelstrom egress, jump, dock, takes closer to 30mins. Even at 700m/s boost with a SCO drive.

This would require significant effort at high resistance, but still be easy to get in the final week when you can do 7m+ per run in a standard Krait build.
Good theory, but what about players like me, flying smaller ships? After fitting a medium heat beam and medium Nanites, your Krait has 3xLarge ax weapons, my Courier has 1xMedium.

My highest ever single run was approx 2M on Oya when it had no defence last week with 7 heat vents scored. In the week before with Oya still with many controls, one maelstrom session of multiple runs that exhausted ammo, heat sinks, corrosive sinks, and only escaping with 23% hull, gained me only 1.5M total.

Your proposal is reasonable based off what you foresee as expected, however FDev may have data that covers more players and leads to a different conclusion.

Yep, I had same, on the Wednesday before it went down, I had 2 runs with 2 or 3 core hits at 150K-250K Cr each. So I had to do lots of runs with all hell breaking loose on me, just to ensure I got the 2M.
Saturday, as it was going down, exactly same runs got c10M in 2 runs.

I am still going to do 2M on Hadad on each Wed in case it starts to go down and I can't do anything to make the weekend.
(I will (RP Spoiler) expect FDev to make the calculations to ensure it only gets Destroyed on a Sat and Meltdown on Sun as it will cause uproar e.g. if it went into Meltdown at 3am BST on Tuesday 🍿 ;) )

Rules are Rules

May I say a couple of points with regards to these rewards: There are two types if I understood well:
  • Decal, Paintjob and Ship kit (for those who hit the Titan's core within a week of its destruction)
  • Arx (for those who contribute on each heart of the Titan's core)

Now let's take an example, Titan Oya. Consequently and Exponentially all the remaining Titans.

Everyone knows that according to the game mechanics, in order to get to the Titan's Core destruction week, we need several weeks to work out its surrounding systems to decrease its defenses, This would be:
  • Handing in countless of Thargoid Tissue Samples in Thargoid Controlled and Alert systems,
  • Working on the Spire Sites,
  • Rescue and Reactivation missions,
  • Win back systems under Invasion.

Oya titan gave us an extra week with 50 systems in alert state, simply FDev-handed (for an unknown reason to the majority of us) (Rumors have it, they delayed to get us the FSD SCO module in time, granted - although it was useless provided your carrier was 8Ly away from the Titan) Hundreds of AX CMDRs contributed round the clock to ultimately get to that glorious week for Oya Titan's destruction. Without these CMDRs, no one would have managed to get to that week when we destroyed the Titan. Without the contribution, of each and every CMDR during the previous weeks, we would not have destroyed Taranis, Leigong and Oya titans.

Let's get to get those weeks of intensive work prior to that last week. FDev can give us the statistics on the number of hours spent by all CMDRs working to get there. Compare these with the number of hours needed to destroy all the eight hearts of the Titan's core.

If I go with FDev's philosophy and reasoning on who gets the Decal, Paintjob and Ship Kit award, I would simply check the 3rd party tools for when that glorious week is on, Log in, get 2 mil in Combat Bonds, and wait for all the other AX CMDRs to do their job. I get the rewards. I've done my part, I contributed to the Titan's destruction. Now imagine if all AX CMDRs do the same. We would have never arrive to that week!

Let's take another scenario, those AX CMDRs working hours upon hours getting to that week, and suddenly something happens to them, they cannot make it that week, they don't contribute 2mil and they loose their reward. Is this fair? Where's Fair Play in there? Do you think FDev treated these players well?

But yes, Rules are Rules!

Hm. Unfair decal distribution? I smell another addition to the 10k ARX store in the air! You know... to accelerate your titan killer career path. :ROFLMAO:

well I asked Fdev to remove the rewards I got for the first two titans (decals and ship kits) from my account and they have refused "in case I change my mind".
I actually feel physically sick every time I see those decals when I'm in livery. All the effort I put in to Oya and I get no decal because I couldn't get there within the week before it was taken down? I had my heart set on getting all eight. The amount of hours I spent on bombing runs to help get it to that point counted for nothing. But hey! If someone else got to the system that week and had done nothing they get rewarded? Please tell me I've misunderstood that as well?
FDev, just take the blooming past rewards for the first two titans back from me please and I'll leave all future rewards to those players that can turn up, do minimum damage and take the glory. (yes I'm bitter about it and frankly quite embarrassed it even means anything to me)

Really feel you, that's such a bummer:( But don't kick the bucket yet, so to speak--there are still five Titans out there and you can get the Krait goodies plus the decal with Hadad. Getting seven stars on your ship is still an achievement--or getting even just one; you still were there when the first one blew, doing your part:)

I understand completely. We all know it's just a game and it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but many of us are passionate about it.

I have some family holidays later on this year and I am concerned that a Titan death will coincide with one and I'll miss the rewards. Feels ridiculous when I put it into context as it's just a silly sticker on a ship and a weird looking kit, but I've been invested in the thargoid war from the start, and this would feel like a personal insult. If this happens, I'm not exactly going to have an emotional crisis, but it'll annoy me enough to take an indefinite break from the game in favour of something else.

A lot of Elite players are older with more responsibilities and less time to play. An arbitrary time limit only serves to alienate a major proportion of the core playerbase for no actual reason, which I think FDev would rather avoid.

And who knows, there might be another titan around some day!

Strangely enough it seemed like everyone that participated would have gotten the rewards. But a few were very vocal about knowing the rules in detail and some theory crafted on how could they cheese the game to go and shoot at all the titans and then get the rewards without taking any further part.. Me thinks the intention of Frontier in giving out this decal was to incentivize the players to participate in the end of the titans.

I remember a post from Paul, that (if I don't misunderstand dry British) basically said something like: "Oh sod off you lot. Due to your whining on social media I've had to waste mine and other's time on a meeting. Here are the bloody rules you want, please enjoy!"

To be honest I shudder every time I think about Frontier listening to the players.. :D

other than blatantly twisting fdev officials words on fdev official forum
even if it was like you fantasize it here, do you think it would be uncalled for? undeserved? unwarranted?

i shudder everytime i see posts like these and im not even in the company.

if only

Yes. So far the way the resistance curve has worked is that there's only two states for the Titan defence.
1) Attacking at this time is essentially pointless. At best everyone's collective efforts might save somewhere between a minute and an hour in the final week.
2) The Titan is vulnerable and isn't going to make it to Monday.
...and if there is a third state in-between where a multi-week attack is both practical and the best option strategically it really requires extremely specific circumstances to appear.

So both in-universe and out-of-game there's no need to incentivise attacking Titans right now - sure, some people will be doing it because they enjoy it and that's fine.

On the other side it does mean that the Titan kills are very much "blink and you miss it" unless you're actively paying a lot of attention to the strategising of a few specific player groups and therefore know when the next one is likely (Hadad in late May unless Frontier decides it should be at a different time)
