DLC18 discussion and predictions

Why tho? The coati can be done using a modified raccoon rig whilst the tree roo can borrow a lot from the quokka, neither would be a gargantuan task to make.
Just a feeling I've got. Don't get me wrong, the Tree Kangaroo is actually my most wanted non-Latin American mammal.

Although now that I think about it "Goodfellows" did show up on that PlanetCo translator dictionary. Hoping that it's not that we're getting the TK instead of the Coati, simply because i feel that Latin America needs more representation at this point.

I
I want secretary bird but I’d be equally happy with grey crowned crane or a hornbill for an African bird.

I would prefer secretary because modders can't replicate this unique bird's behaviours and locomotion. Lately if a good mod exists for an animal goes down in my priority list. That's why i didn't include any duck. Although we need duck sounds. I'm still bitter that the barnyard pack didn't include one.

But anyway, crowned crane is more likely for being direct crane clone but is also good enough as a mod.

Honestly, I hope this isn’t the case, but if this is truly the final dlc then I’m gonna be bitter when NA doesn’t get any bird native to it. I have some hope with the roseate spoonbill, American flamingo, and brown pelican all possible to get in. Likewise there is still some hope with waterfowl from NA to get it.

But most likely the final dlc will have a single bird, most likely the secretary bird. One bird is better than no bird, but I really don’t want to rely on mods just to have a single member of Aves for my entire CONTINENT.

Ehhh i think there is a good turkey mod or something 😂

I also don't have a single bird from my continent. My only hope is the rhea 🥲

Also the wild turkey and Greater Roadrunner are viable options for a habitat bird for NA

I understand the sentiment, but I’ve never been a big fan of the idea of “don’t worry there is a mod for it”.

My computer doesn’t run planet zoo very well, so if I started downloading a ton of mods I wouldn’t be surprised if that makes it worse. (Unless there are mods to improve optimization for potato pcs, in which case lay them on me). Not to mention for the birds I like that would be a lot of mods that also don’t play the actual correct noises. A mallard that sounds like a swan wouldn’t sit right with me, or a caracara that sounds like a peacock.

Also while mods work for us as PC players, remember there is now a whole entire group of the community that can never have mods to make up for missing animals. Yes the waterfowl mods look amazing, but if I have the XBOX version I would never have a duck unless we get one in official dlc.

#TeamTurkey as well. :)
(although I'd be almost as happy with American Flamingo and/or Sandhill Crane!
damn, I've never had to scroll to find the Summer Speculation thread, usually right at the top 😅

So other than the casual birds, SA, and monkeys, what animals would you want to see in a "collection pack?"
To answer this question: Realistic Hopes:
  • Coati (I'd prefer the more Central American white-nosed personally...)
  • Tree Kangaroo (they are adorable looking)
  • Musk Ox
  • North American Black Bear
  • Pallas' Cat***
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Blackbuck
  • Kirk's Dik Dik
  • Sea Otter
  • Rock Hyrax***
Of the above I think I'd be most excited to see White-nosed Coati, Musk Ox, Pallas' Cat, Kirk's Dik Dik and Rock Hyrax. I don't need any of the above except Rock Hyrax (would add a new type of mammals) and Pallas' Cat (nice alternative to our present Sand Cat)

Unrealistic "needs"
  • Smaller African Canid or dog-like animal (Bat-eared Fox, Black-backed Jackal, or even the superficially dog-like Aardwolf)
  • Lagomorph (European Rabbit)
  • White-tailed Deer
  • Sumatran Tiger
  • New World Porcupine (Brazilian Porcupine)
  • Barbary Sheep
  • Indian Muntjac (OR Chevrotain)
To answer the community's core needs: this is what I'd love personally
  • Common Pheasant
  • Golden Pheasant
  • Pelican
  • Grey Crowned Crane
  • Wild Turkey
  • Sandhill Crane
  • Demoiselle Crane
  • American Flamingo
  • Ibis
  • Rockhopper Penguin
  • Greater Rhea
  • Sumatra Chicken
  • Silkie Chicken
  • Crested Screamer
  • Wood Duck
  • Mallard Duck
  • Canada Goose
  • Australian Black Swan
  • Nene
  • Bush Dog
  • Patagonian Cavy
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Golden Lion Tamarin
  • Southern Pudu
  • Lion-tailed Macaque
  • Hamadryas Baboon
So that's nearly 45 types of animal that I'd like to see in game most of which have next to zero chance.

to have birds that typically fly not fly, they'd feel like it's a waste.
I feel the same about ibises hypothetically not perching and nesting on trees from being made into habitat animals.

Also, I have seen raptors in open air enclosures, but those are typically hurt and unable to fly anyway; I dunno about other countries, but in the US you can't have raptors in closed areas, they must be free, in theory
Other than unreleasable native raptors, US zoos (including accredited zoos) still have macaws and African vultures in open top enclosures. The latter especially get pinioned or clipped to be added in savanna enclosures or areas.

Also bronx keeps their birds of prey in classic closed top aviaries. I am sure there are other examples out there.

As far as mods go, I like official versions of animals because: this game belongs to Frontier so its cool to see their take on animals and I can showcase whichever screenshots and content I want on the forums. Its sad that I have some cool screenshots that are forbidden to share on the forum... I understand why though. Its false advertising for mod screenshots to show up on the official forum. I bet once support is over :( I'm going to have a partially modded roster of ~500 animals though haha!

Do you think we could have news in June? I remember it happened that we had to wait barely 2.5 months only between two DLCs sometimes
The short answer: it's possible, perhaps not likely. We have no idea.

The last few years the gap between Spring and Summer DLC has been the shortest of the year, between 10-12 weeks. This year there are a couple of factors which could make a difference though:

- the console release meant the spring DLC came 3-4 weeks later than usual

- the next pack might be the last (we don't know this but there is a lot of speculation in that direction) - so it might come later in the year and perhaps be a bigger finale pack.

What we will definitely get though in June is the financial report for the year, which will probably clear up whether support is ending for PZ or if they want to continue to pursue it. It's still a major part of their revenue so we'll see. There are some big new games in the works so they might be redirecting their resources.
