Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

Looks like Starfield doesn't like running at 100+ FPS, I had crashes every few minutes. Disabled FSR3 and Framegen and am now running at full native res with no upscaling at all, no more crashes and between 40 (in cities) and 80 (elsewhere) FPS.
GPU Nvidia ?

Is it set in stone it will break them permanently? I would have thought modders would fix the mods...
Depending in how fundamental the changes are, modders fix their mods, abandom them and do something else or take accordingly long. Modders are also volunteers so they might not fix the mod when you would like to play the game. You should see the entitled comments in the Steam workshop for Rimworld mods - it's quite disgusting sometimes.

I like this forum for asking questions instead of over on the specific game forums. SO.... What do those who post / read here think of the new SF Update ?

The description looks OK to me. Good stuff for more convenient playing. That's all I took from it.
What I noticed in my recent playthrough is the bulletsponge is still strong and when you fly the Mantis you don't get spammed with the post skirmish interactions anymore.
I wen the Mag gun way and noticed they are pretty much level tied with spawning. Even at the shop. I was able to steal a pistol and had severe ammo problems. Not even the mag weapons helped much against the bullet sponge - they lag behind all other weapons in when the better versions spawn and that takes like to level 40ish?
Basic ballistics are largely the same as ever. The crap ones get their new shinies first and rare drops are mostly useless knifes and silly options on crappy suit equipment.

Mag? Yes. Look at the stats - not much damage per shot, but high fire rate. Nice to equip your followers. For me, I prefer the particle beam shotgun (upgraded to the hilt) until I get hold of a Va'ruun rifle. The Va'ruun pistol is nice, too, but for some reason, light particle ammo turns up less often as heavy particle ammo.
Vanguard questline is worth it just for the ship guns and shields.

I'd say it's the complete opposite. High single shot damage. The pistol can be modded to auto fire, but who'd want to convert a 6-shooter to autofire? There are Mag weapons that feature autofire but that is mostly the heavy gun iirc.

Well, for me it's probably the end to my current character and likely the end of me playing at least until the DLC comes out. The patch features themselves are good, no question. But the patch broke a lot of mods, some of which I simply don't want to play without. And some of them appear abandoned by their authors. I don't expect the situation to improve before the creation kit is out. In a few months I'll have to sort out what works by then and what doesn't.

I'm still waiting for Workshop integration...

Not sure I'm a fan of the new surface maps. Kind of takes the exploration element out of heading over to an unknown feature or facility to see what it is, if you can just open up the map as soon as you land and zoom right in on the detailed layout of everything. I think the old map was about right for planetary exploration, they just needed to add in a few hand-coded maps for the major settlements.

After hearing good buzz about the update, I renewed my Game Pass and tried it. I was particularly interested in the new tweakable settings, especially the survival aspects as that was one area of the game that felt disappointingly underdeveloped when the game launched. After fooling around with it in a new game last night, I really like how this part of the game feels. I disabled food healing and used it just for sustenance, which gives food a more believable use. I would like to see this expanded a bit more, but needing to eat and drink is better for roleplaying. I hope we get a need for sleep next! Bethesda needs to lean into this new system as it makes the game feel more hardcore.

But the best part of my new playthrough was the adjustable affliction system. I got shot in a gunfight and sustained a puncture wound that I needed to bandage to heal or risk getting infected. Yes! Love it! :) All those pharmaceuticals now have a far more important purpose than just treating the occasional bit of environmental damage.

As I said after putting ~80 hours into the game after its release, Starfield has a ton of potential if Bethesda develops it in the fashion of, well, just about every other space game. It needs more meat on those bones, much as Elite did. If Bethesda keeps releasing nice patches like this, I think it will get there. Increase the number of planetary PoIs significantly to avoid repetition, and make space more interesting, and the game will be a winner for me.

This game keeps shutting down my computer during the warmer months. But I can play Elite on a 34" ultra wide at max settings, so I'll stick with this for now. 🤷‍♂️

I don't have A/C, so the hot and humid months of summer make gaming with my desktop a less-than-desirable situation. But I found a workaround: I use Geforce Now and my Chromebook to game and let nVidia worry about the heat. :D I don't know what type of internet you have, but it might be a solution until the heat passes if you have a minimum of 50mb/s. But for Geforce Now, my gaming would be near nil during the summer. (Starfield is on GFN.)
