DLC18 discussion and predictions

Charlie with all due respect - this is rubbish. You are going to far with that 🤯
Its true though most ungulates are basicly the same to build for. Ofcourse you can be more creative with them but the difference between a hyrax and allmost every ungulate that could still be added regarding new opportunitys in habitat design is massive, not to mention the options a bird would open up

for me i would make a small exhibit in a small animal creature exhibit with fennec fox and meerkat and put a ton of rocks in its exhibit and a climbing path

id probably do a copy of the rock hyrax exhibit in stone ham

The problem is that every ungulate we get is either structured very similarly or you build for them the same. Saiga, donkeys, addax, gazelle, you build for them all the same. Even though on their own they look cool, they don’t excite people because there’s so many of them stacked pack after pack. So we either need less ungulates and spread out more, or ungulates that are unique to build for like the hyrax or aoudad.
This is by far the biggest issue it isnt that we are getting so many ungulates its like they are the same type of ungulate. Instead of adding more antelope and bovine they need to focus on ungulates that have unique body plans and movements styles things like caprines, mouse deer or dik dik. We need animals that feel different to build for which many of the ungulates we have dont differ much in habitat requirements outside theming.
I hear you and i raise you that tons of other animals also can make for easy clones.
Throwing a new skin onto the proboscis monkey and making a grey langur for the eurasia pack shouldnt be much a difference from making the boar or saiga from existing animals for example.
you picked the worst animal possible here because the proboscis monkey would have to be altered no matter what it is turned into because it is pretty much the only swimming monkey. Other than that because it climbs it wouldnt be as easy to convert due to any changes in the body shape resulting it potential for clipping.

The biggest reasons bovine ungulates are cheap and easy to duplicate are
  • they have in general really short fur
  • besides a few notable exceptions dont have unique sound affects
  • have almost no complex enrichment animations
  • have very similar body plans
  • lots of practice
  • lots of base rigs
  • very restricted range of motion making animations easier

this is why we havent seen many caprine even though we got our first all the way in arctic and why we havent gotten more monkeys. Nothing will be as easy for the animation team as another ungulate or really clone like animals (american flamingo) and the more we get the easier it gets for them to make more.

I would like ungulates like the:

  • Japanese Serow
  • Elk
  • Mountain Goat
  • Markhor
  • Rock Hyrax
all of these 5 are really unique especially the rock hyrax

I mean you can just turn off swimming for animals, im pretty sure thats as easy as changing enable swimming: yes to enable swimming: no in the code.
Otherwise whats really there to change? the body should probably be a little skinnier and the fur longer, obviously the face needs a remodel.
But all in all this doesnt seem like more work than making the alpaka from the llama

Plants mentioned, mandatory palm tree post

They could do an Endangered Species Pack with 100 new Plants and Fauna with 5 animals.

Endangered Species Pack:
Javan Rhinoceros [Headliner] [CR]
Black Spider Monkey [V]
Golden-Mantled Tree Kangaroo/Mastchie's Tree Kangaroo [GM=CR] [MTK=E]
Cuban Crocodile/Maleo [M=CR] [CC=CR]
Golden Lion Tamarin [WTE]
100 New Endangered Plants and Common seen plants
200+ Sanctuary Pieces [To make a conservation quite like scenery area, will go very well with Conservation pack]

I'm Surprised No-one Has Brought Up The Idea Of A Herbivore Animal Pack And A Carnivore Animal Pack. They Seem So Obvious Yet Haven't Been Talked About.
Cause they are boring and honestly pretty bad. Yeah sure lets make sure that we have less variety in the packs instead of more.
Herbivore pack is basicly ungulates and carnivore could be a little bit more interesting with stuff like a monitor but who am i kidding it will be the carnivoran show.
The best packs are those that mix a lot of different animals and those 2 packs are prime time for frontier to exactly not do that

I’m pretty set with NA, European, and to a lesser extent Asian and African plants, but imo SA (especially the non-tropical regions) is still relatively behind and Oceania only just got a super nice essential set, but it’s still arguably only the bare minimum. I find myself having to use more pieces and make custom plants quite a bit for those regions.

That said though even with the regions I’m satisfied with I keep finding myself enjoying every plant they’ve added recently - it’s been a big strong suit of Frontier’s the last few years. The hedges from Barnyard and both Tropical and especially Oceania’s sets have become some of my favorites in the game, and I’m always happy to see more simply because they nearly never disappoint with them.

If I’m being greedy I would like more temperate trees, right now my favourite trees are the large birch ones cause they look the most realistic (which is surprising cause they’re from the base game) and more tropical ferns and palms. But that’s just based off of what I would use the most. I’ll be honest the only plant from the last pack/update I use regularly is the plant from the butterfly WTE that we can now place.
