DLC18 discussion and predictions

It was kinda depressing so many of the comments under my speculation video talked about how they hoped for 25-40 animals in a final expansion pack and I’m just reading them like well - um that might happen but…😬
I dont see a regular animal pack happening, next pack will either have 12 or 16 animals in it hopefully with a roster maybe being:

Tree Kangaroo [Headliner]
Pacific Walrus
Secretary Bird
Great White Pelican
Musk Ox
Hamadryas/Olive/Gelada Baboon
Markhor
Coatimundi
Black Howler Monkey
Palla's Cat
King Cobra [E]
Tamarin [WTE] [5 Variations]

If we get a bigger pack I doubt it will be larger than say 12 species. I’m not expecting anything crazy at all, probably more of the same. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if this is the last dlc (like all signs point to it) I have some reasoning to be at least optimistic it will be a good pack:
  1. Final dlc for Planet Coaster 1 was bigger than normal (it also contained an existing IP, not garunteed for Planet Zoo but it is interesting at least)
  2. Final dlc for JWE 1 had pteranodons which were heavily requested (may not garunteed birds in the WTE, but it’s likely we get some long requested animal)
  3. JWE 2 had some highly requested dinosaurs/animals. Safe to say we can expect the same for Planet Zoo, likewise DLCs have always been handled differently between the two games. So I would say some monkeys, birds, and South American stuff might be expected. Now that doesn’t garunteed we will get a ton of any of them, but some are better than none.
  4. Even if the DLCs aren’t as great, the free updates have always been fantastic. I don’t think there has been one I haven’t been a fan of.
  5. There is still a potential we get an anniversary animal, even if DLCs stop the 5th anniversary of the game is a big deal. Not to mention it’s likely the last dlc will release only a handful of months before the anniversary. Or maybe we will get more than one dlc. Or maybe the final dlc is still super far out and we won’t see it until around the anniversary. Who knows.
  6. Planet Zoo has been a huge financial success. Console sales have most likely only improved that fact.
Now I agree, anyone who thinks this final dlc is gonna be an amazing game changer is in for a rude awakening. I still think it’s worth being hopeful, Frontier has always followed a pattern in the past, but they can also change it whenever they like. So I think this dlc could still be a good one! We never thought we would get more than one bird in a pack and then we got two. We also got 1/3 of all bird species in game in less than a year. So it can change.

Am I expecting that the monkey/ bird/ South American representation will be fixed perfectly by the next dlc? No. But I still think it will be addressed somewhat.

could see like 3 south america animals, tree roo, secretary, one south american primate, musk ox and markhor, honey badger as an oddball, walrus as its been requested, and like 2 exhibits being cobra and maybe the one and only tamarin

even if we get a pack with a ton of birds there still will be a ton left, planet zoo 2 marketting strategy will probably be ALOT more birds and finally flying birds.

Yeah thats kinda the depressing thing, any amount of monkeys and birds that one could reasonably expect from a final dlc is like putting a plaster on a gun shot lol :D

does anyone have any idea's how they are gonna support past players. I wont be to happy if we have to repay dlc animals...
I mean its anyones guess at this point.

Personally i think having alot of dlc animals in the basegame is somewhat reasonable, but some key species will be held back.
Keeping the star animals out to headline packs with a different cast of filler animals essentially.
Like having sheep, reindeer and wolf from the arctic pack in the basegame but keeping the polar bear out to headline another arctic pack with musk ox, hare and snowy owl for example.

3 options:

  • Don't make a sequel, can't run into issues with player support if you don't support the game (tap forehead meme)
  • Base game includes pz1 base content and diverse selection of dlc animals
  • Discounts for players who own dlc from pz1 (very very unlikely to happen)
Most likely scenario - most major dlc animals from pz1 are paywalled behind dlc, past players have no choice than to rebuy them.

I mean I would rather a hole get partly filled than not at all
  1. 2 monkeys
  2. 2-3 birds
Better than nothing. Likewise, we still don’t know if the final dlc will be bigger, or what the theme is. So I think the best answer is prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

yeah im fine with planet zoo 1, ill just wait for mods to release and treat them like a new dlc update don't need planet zoo 2 maybe buy it if costs the same as its older counterparts with sales making it 12 dollars-8 with dlcs being 5

By the time the sequel rolls around this won't really be an issue for the vast majority of players. Obviously if it were to be released, say midway through next year? People would revolt.

But in 2.5 years when it's supposedly coming? So long as its got new building features of PlanCo2, graphics upgrades, relatively new/upgraded sets of base game assets, different/new management options, upgrades to previously added features (keeper talks, petting zoo mechanics, gift shops), plus flighted birds with an aviary system? I think people will be into it regardless. I also could see them doing what they did with PlanCo2 and coming up with some new themes for the base game while pulling others back for DLC.

There's ways to do it while not totally ticking people off and making people feel like they're getting value for it.

true, planet zoo 2 is probably in 5 years like 2029 10 years after its prequel

Doesn’t necessarily need to be that long.

Theres 3 CMS management games coming. One is PC2, end of 2024. Second is JWE3 coming end of 2025, and the last one probably comes at the end of 2026, which could be Planet Zoo 2.

It’s not that far fetched when you think about the gaps between the base game and the sequel. Planet Coaster launched in 2016, now receiving a sequel 8 years later. Planet Zoo released in 2019, 2026 would be 7 years later, so about the same wait. The only difference is we still have DLCs happening, but in retrospective I don’t think that really matters too much.

It would make sense for that last CMS game to be Planet Zoo 2, and if it is, I doubt they would say they have 3 CMS games if one was coming out in 5 years, unless the third game is something else which idk what it would be then.

I don't see why it has to be one or the other, but if it comes to either the tree ro or the coati, forget the kangaroo, give me the coati.
Team Coati for me as well, simply because as a matter of existing fauna representation, South America is much worse off than Oceania. Granted most of that's Australia, but still, I'm 100% okay with no more non-South American mammals. Though the TK would definitely be my most wanted non-South American mammal I honestly think I wouldn't miss them all that much.

I agree coati over tree kangaroo any day. I've said before that I think the tree roo is overrated and I stick by it, cool animal but really quite low down the list for me in terms of being "essential". Meanwhile the coati is such an ubiquitous animal from a very poorly represented part of the world, it'd be such a huge boost.

Idk if i would nessecarily call it overrated because it is a very cool and unique animal. If you look at it from a realism standpoint than yeah the coati is easily the more essential of the two and easily one of, if not the most essential mammal left.
However imo whether or not something is common in zoos is not the be-all end-all as there are definetly animals that are A: iconic or B: unique enough to be worthy additions to PZ despite being rather rare. King penguin and koala would fall into A for example and platypus and the tree kangaroo into B.

Also i have to tend to agree that its most likely an either or with these two in a final pack. Idk its just a gut feeling, i cant really pin down why. Maybe its because they are both small, stocky, arboreal, reddish mammals living in tropical rainforests.
