Elite Dangerous | Type-8 Update (18.08) | Wednesday 7th August

I'm obviously doing something wrong. From playing Elite from 2013, I still don't have enough arx to even buy one ship...

The only thing you’re doing “wrong” is that you’re not grinding for your weekly ARX. I had someone claim that they could earn 400 ARX in an hour. If they enjoyed the prices, then more power to them. Personally, I’d rather spend that precious hour enjoying the game.

My typical week usually gives me 30-50 ARX, though once I got something like 250.

I'm not sure if this has been reported yet and I haven't searched for it, but the following is not accurate, at least for passenger missions.

In my case, I completed a passenger mission offering 6 Biotech Conductors as one of the payments. At the time, my BC inventory was 95/100. When I tried to turn in the completed mission, the option to select the BC materials was greyed out and not selectable. If the above were true, I should have been able to select the material payment, and thus my BC count should have been taken to 100/100, with the last BC lost due to being over the cap.

Poor show, FD; how hard would it have been to test this before including it in the patch??? A reputation is a hard thing to break.
material[N]=max(material[N],material[N]+reward);

Unfortunately, exploration doesnt pay as good Arx as combat does :/
Yeah, as that (bottom/second) quote says - combat can very quickly fill up the weekly ARX allowance. At least, AX does - I can go into a Thargoid conflict zone for about an hour, or two, kill a couple Interceptors and whatever Scouts that spawn, and if I go log out after that once the zone is complete, even without doing the Hydra stage, that’s 400 ARX right there without much time or effort. And having fun at the same time.

Might be a bit slower fighting human NPCs, but I’m not totally sure if it’s based on the credits earned doing said combat or the difficulty of the opponents killed.

I don't know how they used to give the same amount of ARXs for clearing a settlement of marauders.
The main thing is not to turn off the alarm system and shoot looters with Scarab like in a shooting gallery.

4 to 5 high intensity on foot combat zones will get you 400 ARX at 15 min approx per zone
half hour with someone in cylopsaconda in open can in base defence only by getting the odd shot in in a basic sidewinder @ a dime a dozen

The worst part is that it's very fast :( It would be better if the limit was pushed up to at least 2000 arxs.

I made 270 Arx yesterday, just playing around.
As with everything in this game, it can be fun, or 'grind', with many choosing not to have fun by the sound of it!
Also mentioned above, do a few on-foot High CZ and those 400 have been earned in an hour, not 'grind', unless combat isn't your dog...

Blowing stuff up can get me to the CAP in only a couple of days if I am taking it easy.
Buying and selling modules, engineering and shuffling stuff around via the materials traders is about as fast
Exploring and scanning bios gets only a handful of Arx per session.
Selling exploration data and bio data can yield big numbers depending on how long since the last time you cashed in.
Missions or passengers I have no idea.

So it is as it was from pretty much the start very variable depending on what you do in the game and how often and long you do it for.

Not done it myself but there is up to another 400 available from Legacy each week.

Oh it was already plenty possible to do that. I've misclicked into useless commodities enough times to question why they were ever an option to begin with. And let's not forget every newbie ever picking the influence reward thinking it'll help their superpower rank.
At least you got a reward, even if it was useless to you. Clicking on a material reward that you're already maxed out on means no reward. Big difference.

The solution could be as simple as a little UI element depicting how many units you're about to discard if you select a near-full reward.
I'm sure that would already be implemented if it were simple.

Hi FDev,

regarding Thargoid controlled system rewards:
Some contributions are neglected.

This is no complaint from my side, since I put in minimal effort, no doubt about that. I can live with that, but would like to know the exact reason:
I killed one or just few Scouts in multiple systems (maybe all within just one hour). Then handed in the resulting bounty vouchers at once.
I was rewarded materials only for one system, although at least two more of those systems reached 100%.

Was that the consequence because this happened within one hour or because I handed in the vouchers all at once?

Edit: Appendix:
Those systems did not all reach 100% within one hour.

About ARX

I can easily collect 400 ARX per week playing regularly. Totally understandable for me that Frontier wants to reward active players. But we should remember than for the Frontier the facet we are just playing isn't enough to raise. That's why 400 ARX cap is just a litte lincenvite to spend real money for ARX. Fortunately it is just a decoration or now three months early acces. So we can still play for free with all udpates and content. I bought the game for less than 15 GPB and spent like 2000 hrs playing, more than all other games together since last 20 years.
I decide I want to buy other game copy and ARX just because it is still cheaper entertaiment than anything else.
From this point I am happy than I can have any ARX just playing, of course, after last update, when stuff is more expensive I would have nicer cap, but tbh, it si sitll for me added value. And like 4 decals a week just for playing the game.
After 6 months of playing I had like 10-15k of ARX because of Christmas ARX for just log in and normal time spend in the game. And most my activity is the exploration.
I bought Python MkII because after 6 month of playing I decided that Frontier really deserved my money.
I (probably) will not buy Type -8 because it is not "my kind" of ship and I am hope for the next ship will be some kind of explorer :D
