Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi All :)

Well, that's something I didn't know. 😲...I was under the impression that you only received free Arx for the time played in the game, which had a weekly cap of 400 Arx. 🤷‍♂️
I generally get around the 400 Arx most weeks. My Total Arx so far is 33639 (saving them up for a Panther Clipper....🙏....forever positive! :D ).

Jack :)
To me, the listing of different categories was a first hint that these Arx were bound to some kind of achivement in that category.
Differing amounts of Arx seemingly corresponding with the amount of money earned in a session (Back in Horizons) hinted that this might not be a time-based achievement.
And once Odyssey landed on my computer, I noticed that hours spent unsuccessfully searching for some elusive biosign yielded no Arx reward at all.
Which confirmed my suspicion/theory.

A Panther Clipper, you say? The legendary ship so big it won't fit into the mailslot of a station and exceeds the confines of a large landing pad?
Not entirely sure what you would want with such a behemoth, unless it would be a small carrier, but to each their own.

It seems to vary according to in-game activity, with combat (particularly on foot) earning at the highest rate - exploration is slower, but a good pile of exodata brings in quite a bit too …i’m not sure about trade, as i tend to advance in this purely incidentally, but anything that contributes to rank progression typically brings in Arx - up to a weekly limit of 400, currently with bonuses for participating in Titan-thumping…

so I expect i will be getting a Mandalay sometime in the new year, when it can be bought with credits ;p

A sleepless night saw me getting a few more lightyears closer to Suhte. I'm down to 50 more jumps - about 50-55 ly each.

On this stint, I discovered something I hadn't had on my radar before:

Interestingly enough, I was the first to enter this system.

This is what I found there:
Metallic Crystals.jpg

These Metallic Crystals are quite impressive, I have to say.

I moved in a little closer, always careful not to stab one of the spikes into my canopy:
MC Prasinum.jpg

This one likes to be called Prasinum.
MC Purpureum.jpg

And this one is a purpureum variant.

Now I will go and see if life lets me get any closer to home today.

Just think of all the systems you missed in-between, I can't do it, I always go "Most economical" and stop at every system.

Different activities earn Arx at different rates, usually the big payments come when cashing in the data/bounties/bonds etc that you have been getting doing the activities.
Buying modules and fitting out and engineering a ship will also get you Arx.

Just being in the game will get you nothing or next to nothing.

When you come back from an exploration/exobiology trip it pays to cash in in chunks going to the main menu each time so you can stop cashing in when you reach the cap.

A forum search going back to just after Arx we’re introduced will probably find lists of what earns how much.

I guess that would be more than 500 jumps... A little too much for me, right now.
I just want to get back home. But I still take my time, FSSing every system, mapping terraformables and plant a few FiFos on the way, preferably while collecting some biodata.

I took a different approach on the way out, though. Every jump was hand-placed.

I understand, 90% of the commanders do the same as you, they bomb around the galaxy on max jump range. I'll do it when I head to and form a DSSA carrier, I bookmark the last system in my plot, so I know where I came from. Everything has been explored around the carriers anyway and it's always nice to go max jump, I can get about 12 jumps before I need to scoop at about 57Ly per jump.

Edit: I think it was about two years ago when I got back from six months in the black, I couldn't wait until I got back to Colonia.

In my case it is more grabbing an opportunity to get back as fast as possible before the next round of chaos comes in in real life. I originally planned on heading out at least 5k ly, but after I was stuck on a planet for about a month due to real life shenanigans, I decided to cut my losses and head back as fast as possible.
It is easier to squeeze a delivery mission into a half-hour long session than hunting for some elusive biosign, after all.
And maybe I might be able to participate in one of the next Buckyball races...

I've been mostly engineering this week. My modest fleet of seven ships is now almost entirely complete.
  • Python (Yamakawa Hitoshi) - mission runner
  • Anaconda (Alexei Stakhanov) - miner
  • Krait Mk. II (James Clerk Maxwell) - multi-role
  • Cobra Mk.III (Off to Space Gulag) - terror taxi
  • Vulture (Brutish and Short) - scenarios and CZs
  • Viper Mk. III (R. J. Mitchell) - light/wing combat, having fun
  • Sidewinder (Ernesto 'Che' Guevara) - flying around really fast

Move to Pha Aim QQ-Q C20-0 3, the three little piggies planet. In this alternate reality the pigs cast straw, sticks, and bricks aside to live under the sea - where no wolf dare tread.

COMING TO GALNET ENTERTAINMENT IN THEATRES
Are they in a yellow submarine or perhaps an octopus's garden in the shade?
