Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

What happened? Did your airlock suddenly open when you were passing by?

Just in the mood for Spaceballs. Must be. Well it's all related I guess - but it must be partly this long tour home in Dolph Helmet. Actually, I have been designing a new server and it's in a rolling case (Tower 500 I am putting on a and casters). See, at first it was reminding me of R2-D2 a bit. But I came to think of it more like Megamaid now (And I think that will be its hostname). I think it will be on a car tire dolly pending some measurements and possibly someday even stay running with a UPS. No cords to trip over when you take it dancing! Some kind of dolly with casters anyway. What a doll, is Megamaid

And it can suck up my family's files off their planetary level computers in addition to its other parallel duties as MEGAMAID.

But I can't let its bag get that full.

Needs more hard drives

I guess I haven't been playing too much cause preparing to issue order VACU-SUCK is what I been up to. And I'm about 4000 LY from the skull and crossbones. Then I think the Running Man and back to the core systems old worlds.

And I'm afeared for Penny. She has been a great granddaughter but Mamba might be too fast, she might die in a Mamba crash, the way I figure, here in a few weeks. We shall see. It just sounds more exciting than retiring to Spoke and buyin a fleet carrier. Just one CMDR's notion of exciting anyway.

But what I'm really lookin forward to is a few fights in that Mambo

Better keep it away from the cat, you might see it whirring across the floor with a furry tail sticking out of it.:D

Hi All :)

Elite will be 40 years old on Friday September 20th.
I feel like a party in Lave Station bar where it all began with some brandy is in order. You must arrive in a Cobra MKIII, of course!

Hmmm....I'll bet Frontier must celebrate this with something game wise, and probably some new merchandise too?
Just an observation...if I click on the emoticon menu up top when I'm composing a post (Smiling face) it's not showing the menu selection !?...strange, it always used to work up until today?

Jack :)

Do I recall this correctly that the ARX week changes over on thursdays?
Yes.
The best time to unload exploration data is late Wednesday a page at a time checking each time to see when you reach the cap, then get rid of the rest after the changeover, checking each time of course.

Perhaps you have used your allocation for this session. :)

I guess that this might take a little longer when I start turning in my bioscans...

This was just from turning in my system scan & map data:

...?

Curious. I can't attach files?

It comes down to how intent you are on maximising your Arx, serious about it you will be going to the main menu a lot, casual interest you will visit after every page of data or bios, otherwise just cash in one go for each activity and get on with your game.

Decisions, decisions... Argh.

Would be nice to have those extra Arx, but with how real life shenanigans playout, It might be better to cash it in and get some rep down with the superpowers...

You know OK Elite turning 40 whatever - you know those combatants or slain NPC who get stuck in the ground or whatever I just found evidence of the same already from SEVENTY er, FIFTY years ago (1974) on eBay:

Something tells me that story is set in the early 34th century after Odyssey release

I’m just going to leave this here…

Sheer awesomeness - dunno if an AI could ever really do anything like this… androids may dream of electric sheep, but it requires an organic sentience to be truly surreal imo :)

Exofauna preview!
Yarrrss! :D

It was my same comment to a (non-CMDR) friend was that I generated some mighty surreal book covers (with that Stable Diffusion link Mr. Codger put here long ago) but in 1974 this one had leapfrogged both Salvador Dali and Stable Diffusion. Ha!

Hi :)

Apologies for being dumb, could you explain further?....I've just noticed that if I type in a smiley eg. I type the : (colon) and then - and then this ) (bracket) I get it to work for that emoticon and it automatically appears (the emoticon) when I preview the message, but not before..

This week, I found out that Hafnium exists in ED, over 5 years after I started playing it.

I only discovered it when looking at my Carriers commodity menu (I think).
I wonder how you can obtain it?...and what is it used for?

Edit, Back on Topic....I'm presently in the Skaudou region, Quite a few Terrestrial Water worlds, mining is a bit scarce at the moment for deep core, plenty of lit up asteroids but very few showing that deep persistent colour you get for the good deep core ones.

I was trying and as usual failing to be amusing by implying that there was a cap on emoticons much as there is a cap on Arx.

The emoticons menu works fine for me but when the forum doesn’t work I check the options like preview to see if I have selected a wrong mode and try and ensure that cookies are set to all.

This weekend will mostly be scanning salad.

I just want the money. Any tips appreciated, for this is my first foray into the wonderful world of exobiology. I undertake to post no pictures of CMDRs standing in front of things.

I tend to favour small patches of blue preferably with easy to spot boundaries as it is easier to be sure you are searching the right place. Overlaps with multiple species in the same area are a bonus.

Some species favour pretty inaccessible locations (Fungoida Setisis) a small ship will often be your only chance of landing near by. I tend to not bother with the SRV and just use the ship and walk.

A scoped weapon can double for binoculars, handy for checking if that distant blob is something you are interested in or just a rock.

First Discovery is where the big money is but just because a planet has been mapped doesn’t mean you can’t be the first to find something, if you do get first footfall though then it is likely only the lowest value stuff or really hard to find stuff will be undiscovered.

Discoveries are on a per planet basis so you can get First Discovery for the same bio on every planet it is on in that system.

Third party tools are a great help but not indispensable the Codex will tell you how far you need to go between samples.

You get fewest credits for things you could find in Horizons the most for Stratum Tectonicas which is worth a shade under twenty million without the bonus which adds four times the amount to your payout.

:)...No problem, I've just tried some other forums (not Frontier) and the emoticon menus seem to work ok there...puzzling! :)

After you have scanned the planet for bios try to land in an area that has (visible from your cockpit) the most varied bios. For example, if the planet is showing say 6 different bios then if possible try to land amongst 3 or 4 of them that are sometimes clustered together. That way you've less distance to go to scan 'em! You might find for example Strata, Tussock grass and perhaps Tubus varieties all fairly near each other...(sometimes even more).
I very rarely scan bacteria as most have a low payout, though you might find some of the rare ones which pay a bit more. I presume you know that you have to scan a bio three times to register it for a payout, this can be a bit frustrating as the same bios have to be some distance apart (I forget how far at the moment).
Generally I've found the larger the bio the further apart they have to be to register as a separate scan with the scanning tool. (Tubus for example).

Some planets only have one bio (usually bacteria) but it's worth scanning those planets now and again as sometimes they have the more rare bios.
If there are many bios in the same area I generally use the Scarab to travel between the groups, if they are further apart then I use the ship, as it's easier. I personally think it's essential to carry at least one scarab in your ship for bio searching.

There's quite a bit to learn, but it's usually pretty straight forward....most of the time! :)

Jack :)
