DLC18 discussion and predictions

I stopped hoping for any specific animals a few weeks ago and because of all of you I'm starting to dream again :') If Tree Kangaroo, Hamadryas Baboon, Secretary Bird and Echidna are on the speculation list, then I'm hoping for a very good pack overall and I'm expecting the Walrus to come too... and Palla's cat... and one NW monkey :| I'm leaving on this note otherwise I will take all of this too seriously (maybe it's too late already).
That’s what I’m thinking with duck, but we will see. I’m still hopeful with Frontier and birds, considering at least one was added for each pack. The only thing is that could mean the one bird could be the secretary bird.

Considering pelican isn’t in the dictionary but duck is maybe us waterfowl dudes have a chance.

Not to spam, but considering the Bronx and Central Park keep the Mandarin ducks in a tropical house I can happily get them too. Really any duck is a win for me, or any bird extra to the secretary. At this point I am not picky at all.

I think mythological Echidna is a stretch, not the most famous of Greek mythological monsters.

I believe that Echidna has to refer to PZ, and I know that there's a track with Echidna in its name, but for me that's not argument against its inclusion, but another one for it.
Looking at the mythology theme in Planco2, I wouldn't really say it's a stretch. Would not surprise me at all.

Honestly, the only words I would definately give to PZ after some coaster research would be goodfellows, Hamadryas (baboon) and Impala. All those birds are coaster names, the duck swims in a pool or is a enrichment item in PZ etc.

And I roll my eyes at this Impala.

Yeah, but animatronics don't really come with a fact page, so I'm not sure how it comes up without being it's own statue or something. It also doesn't answer why there's seemingly nothing else obvious that could potentially be from that set (Typhon is the monster daddy, he's not there, though I guess that kind of tracks. None of the kids are there, so I guess he got custody.)

It could be an intentional misdirect taking a very specific thing from the set. Harpy could've been used that way for a Harpy Eagle, albeit more suspicious.

I'm gonna be that guy and say that Hamadryas was a greek nymph, so it might be related to PC after all, Plus Goodfellow is a surname and impalas are mentioned on nyala zoopedia, as pointed out by milurian .

What i am trying to say is that i woudn't trust this words on the dictionary, as even the more specific seens to have a explanation for being there.

If we want to go that far then secretary can also just refer to a job title.

So just for funsies and because i dont really have anything else to do, my 2 cents one the "confirmed/leaked" animals.

-Hamadryas baboon: Easily in my top 3 most wanted animals, and ive been desperately wanting more monkeys and a baboon specificly since i first started playing the game only to go empty handed for every single DLC since then. So im uber happy it seems likely to be added. Honestly the only bad thing i can say about it is that it being here probably significantly lowers the chances for a new world monkey which is a huge shame, but given Frontier track record with monkeys it already seems like a miracle to get one in the first place.
-Secretary bird: Really cool animal, although when it comes to adding one or two last birds to the game this wouldnt have been my first choice. And similar to the baboon/monkey getting the secretary probably reduces the chance for other birds to make it in by quite a bit.
-Tree kangaroo: Nice addition aswell, its not in my top top priority but a tier below so still amazing to get
-Echidna: Really cool animal but not one i would lose sleep over if we dont get them.

One additional thing i wanna point out is that if these 4 turn out to be true means that were gonna enter a completely new level of taxonomic diversity in one pack here. I mean getting one of each of the 3 main lineages of mammals (placentals, marsupials and monotremes), one of which being a primate, plus a bird would obliterate nearly every other pack and even gives wetlands a run for its money and very likely will surpass it depending on what the rest of the pack will be.

Yeah but crowned is for the red crowned crane and pigeon are ambient animals in Coaster.
Also true, but I don’t know if using pre existing words in the dictionary would be a good way of saying what animals are coming or not. Like of that massive list of animals mentioned in other animals zoopedia the only ones that can be realistically excluded are probably the extinct, flying, or aquatic animals.

Obviously having new words helps a lot. I know the Victoria crowned pigeon isn’t coming because Frontier would never do something that cool for a bird.

Yeah wouldn’t look to bad so far, if we get one more bird and a reptile then it could easily beat out Wetlands.

Which I don’t know why Frontier wasn’t trying to do that with every pack, but it is what it is.

The tree kangaroo has been my #1 for a while now... So I really want to see them formally added to the game. The echidna is low on my formal wishlist but after my trip to Australia this year and seeing them up close a few times? They're much higher. Haha. Secretary bird is the bird we're most likely to get that I want the most... And I can take/leave the baboon because there's things I want more. But it's still a nice addition.

My one qualm/issue with this all is... WHERE IS THE COATI?!! If that word had snuck into the dictionary I'd feel alot stronger about it (and, admittedly, I already feel quite strong on these animals being likely). Hah.

My current thought about some of the picks we're likely to see is that they'll be critters that were meant for another pack initially and held off on. In each case, these are animals that would have made their respective packs almost too loaded (with the exception of the baboon) and saving them as more of an anchor for a later pack would make sense. Oceania, for example, already had two super highly requested animals. Arid had two highly requested animals and two that people wanted but weren't chatting about; which backfired). And we all love Grasslands.

So maybe these are all animals that were started and paused in favor of something else due to their relative complexity (which speaks to the taxonomic diversity you're highlighting, TBH). It would also explain why these were the ones that popped up and some of the potential Latin American species didn't pop-up... Or maybe it's just cope on my part and that region continues to get ignored?

We are at a weird time:
  1. This is the longest wait we have ever had
  2. The outsource_iqa was “updated” in a weird way, which may mean not at all
  3. Some animals were “leaked” on the dictionary. But this also includes animals and objects from the sister game which would never make it into Planet Zoo.
  4. Frontier in a financial statement made it unknown whether they would continue the game or end it.
  5. As to the statement made on the financial report, this dlc could be bigger than we expected. Or not.
So thats where animals not being mentioned in the dictionary doesn’t 100% equal they won’t be there. We may have some hope as to South America and especially the coati yet. If the Howes stick bug is in the dictionary, an animal we know was scrapped, then the dictionary may not be reliable.

Frontier will do whatever they want. While this is our most solid lead yet, I’m not gonna put too much stock into it.

Very strange times! The outsource_lqa was probably updated but... I do think the depot not being updated means that it "doesn't count." But it's still progress!

I do think the majority of the new dictionary terms are related to PlanCo2 but the 3-4 people are focusing on are kinda obviously not related to PlanCo2. And that's why I'm leaning into the "they were probably cut and saved for a future pack" theory. Because it would make sense for the particular animals in question given their potential value-add to their potential prior packs versus what they would add to a pack down the line. The one "issue" with that idea is the Howe's Island Insect for the reason you noted. But that could also be another species resurrected...

Man, imagine if we go through all this and the final pack doesn't include the secretary bird, baboon, and/or tree kangaroo?!! I was anticipating at least 2/3 of those to make their way in-game at some point even without the dictionary adds so that would be extremely disappointing. Hah.
