DLC18 discussion and predictions

The lack of a name doesn't necessarily mean that it can't be Coquerel's. The dik-dik didn't have one when it was found at the same time + Cuvier's isn't in the dictionary for the dwarf caiman.
Dall also isn't there for the sheep, and Thomson for the Gazelle, but everything more recent than Aquatic has the person name accounted for, like Przewalski (takhi, their other name is also included) & Hermann, so it's a bit of a weird situation.

Goodfellow is even there, so it's a bit inconsistent. Maybe it was incomplete before making a copy for PC2?

It's also a mildly weird situation for any Echidna, with Beaked not in the dictionary, but every DLC species, apart from White-faced Capuchin, Clouded Leopard, Small-clawed Otter and Striped Skunk/Hyena, having full descriptors covered, like Spectacled, Crested, Throated, Banded, Necked, Maned, Horned, Crowned, Tailed & Eyed.

All in all, there's reason to be suspicious. It would likely be the job of a single person to update the dictionaries upon other duties, so there's a decent chance they might have been playing around, with the false assumption that basically nobody is going to look in there, then rectified things when a co-worker told them about it (not sure how that doesn't come up 6 months ago, maybe it was the youtubers that raised alarm bells. It maybe explains the PC2 new species removal, but not really the Baboon, or why the other stuff's still there).

We know really for sure that there will be a new one?
It taking so long, makes me wonder if it will be extra big or if it will be something absolutely revolutionary🤔

Going to reshare this again so everyone knows what Frontier said:

They specifically said "Whilst the team is busy porting aaall the content to console, the team is working on another animal pack coming out later this year."

The community already ignored the "later this year" part and just said "no no, that has to mean this summer" instead of what it actually said; and we all know how that turned out. It might not be a bad thing to listen to the first part of what they said instead of expecting huge big things. They pretty much gave us the reason why it took longer right there.

We always complain that they don't communicate enough, but now that they do, we should really listen 😅

Mate, we so far have 0 animals with their type of behavior, interactions and movement. Wanting them to not be here because we have 3 lemurs already is not an excuse to not let them be here. The way they will play, interact and have its own walking mechanics will bring amazing builds so I'm really excited for them to come and make a tropical tree layer where they can jump and climb.
Know what can do all that, while also adding a whole lot more? A lot of things that aren't a fourth lemur...

Yeah its confirmed, and the chances that we will see a trailer today are pretty good. At the very latest we get news on the stream this wednesday
Hope I'll get back Home then before, so I can immediately watch (unless my Internet is disconnecting every 2 Seconds again 🙄)

Wondering if the Content porting takes so long or if we might get something special. I'll better not expect too much so I won't be disappointed 😊

My mind has kept going back to a magazine article that was released before the game came out which mentioned both baboons and dik-diks. It does make me wonder if they were originally planned and cut - the baboons are mentioned as living in a dusty enclosure (so likely not mandrills) and dik-diks are such a random animal to have falsely added. It does also mention alligators, which subsequently got added to the game. They are all mentioned in the final paragraph on the bottom-right.

If it wasn't put out by Frontier themselves than I'd take it with a massive grain of salt. I recall an interview ages ago where the journalist injected a lot of his own opinions in the article (claiming meerkats wouldn't be added even though Frontier never said so) and that was the basis for a lot of bad speculation for several months 😅

The article also isn't really specific about whether it considers those animals as part of the game or just an example, so that's another thing to keep in mind. Other than that, we're also 5 years since that article, I think we're safe to say that they didn't know the animals of the next packs at that point in time.

Ugh like it does solve it and not at the same time for me. The flamingo would be such an underwhelming pick for me when the rhea is right there but is probably more plausible than the rhea
Also i rather get anything other than the spec bears for SA but i can't say it isn't requested. Is just that for.me doesn't really fix the SA rep in the game. Is found in very specific región in a specific biome and not as common as other options. But i get is the most likely scenario. 🥲
I feel the same, but this just feels more realistic than my dream wishes of getting a pelican/roseate spoonbil/scarlet ibis or even a rhea. Same for the bear, I don't really care about it too much and rather have a mara/tamandua. But I just don't see it happening at this point.

I think it only threw us off back then because of specifically the dik-dik, tbh. Like, such a strange one to mention off-handedly.

My own theory as to why this is definitely our final DLC is this:
We're currently at 17 packs for PC.
DLCs for console are released in bundles of two.
We're getting one DLC that's most likely going to be announced in the next couple of days (even today for all we know), which will bring the total number of DLCs to 18... Which is 9 bundles for console.
If we got another DLC after this one, how would it be released to console? Would it be on its own? In a bundle of three?
Which is why I personally believe that the one we're getting is the final DLC

(If we do get another DLC after this one I'll be more than happy but I really don't expect this to happen)

Or maybe they can go up to 20. I mean, all we know is that the DLC that is going to be released soon took a lot of time and I agree with a lot of people saying this will probably be the last but the fact is that we don't know. When you look at Frontier's financial report you can clearly see that PZ is still doing quite well (possibly because of the console release). We have the right to wonder why they would stop now. Maybe the strategy now will be to take a lot of time for every new DLC because the teams are busy on other projects.
To be fair, I'm part of the team hoping the next DLC will be the last but if it is a 8 species DLC with no representation for South America, then I'm expecting another pack. I really can't imagine Frontier doing it this dirty to us :') Maybe they will... who knows.

Anyway, it's pure speculation. Maybe they don't even care if they have an even or an odd number of DLC in the end and we're discussing all of this for nothing.

Currently listening to Echidna Round and Huon Montane* on repeat to manifest the echidna and tree kangaroo in the next pack.
*for some reason the name alludes to the mountains of the Huon Peninsula, the most well-known inhabitant of which is the Huon tree kangaroo, better known as the Matschie's tree kangaroo. Obviously based on the dictionary we'd probably get Goodfellow's over Matschie's, but a tree roo is a tree roo, and it's interesting that it's referenced in the Southeast Asia pack regardless.

Really hoping the announcement is tonight so that, whether they're in the next pack or not, at least the uncertainty is gone!
