DLC18 discussion and predictions

I'm defeated at this point. I do not expect a single SA animal nor i think it will be a larger a pack and for sure this one seen very much like the last pack we will get.

I'm just accepting i won't get my coati, howler, mara, rhea and pelican. Not even blackbuck, musk ox, sea otter or Palla's cat.

Once again, even for the final pack they decided to go with oddballs in a way, because yes, while dik dik, Sifaka and tortoise were often mentioned as good and wanted additions, they were in a way lower demand than other animals that would have probably take the same amount of effort to make but were more popular.
Don't give up hope. I truly believe we will get both the Coati and a New World Primate. Perhaps not the Howler, but something at least. I mean, I'm by no means a fan of the leaked lineup, though there's a few nice animals on there, but I just cannot believe they would completely ignore Latin America like that.

I could see it now: And the Latin American animals: The Brazilian Tapir and American Flamingo. I mean, they're latin American animals. Just not the ones people are really wanting that much.

Hamadryas Baboon
Tree kangaroo
Secretary
Dik dik
Sifaka
African spurred
Short beaked echidna
Markhor

Now I’m not saying I think there will be more than 1 pack, I still think this one is the last,

HOWEVER 6/8 of the list are from the old world (Africa & Asia). Is it potentially possible that we get an Old World Pack next week, then a New World pack at Christmas time? It’s a very very big stretch of course, but the holidays is always when frontier makes the most money, and setting South America animals and the tree roo aside for a final new world pack would definitely please people.

Ngl if the adds for SA are brazilian tapir and flamingo i would rather not have something from SA :D

Unless they have concept art lying around, I don't think they're going to make that many additions specifically only for base game (the only remaster has been the Malayan Tapir, I guess you could also count the Binturong), though I could see additions to DLCs being a thing, like maybe an extra statue per pack.
To be honest I kind of take back that concept, instead maybe just 20-30 animals

A bit something like this (only base game and deluxe edition animals)
Lion male and cub
Elephant adult and calf
Zebra
Giraffe
Gemsbok
Warthog
Ostrich
Gorilla
Chimpanzee
Flamingo
Cheetah
2 Wild Dog signs
Hyena
Cheetah
Both tortoises
Grizzly
2 Wolf signs
Bison
Saltwater Crocodile
Red Panda
Giant Panda
Tiger
Orangutan
Peafowl
Komodo Dragon
Green Igunna
Dimond Back Rattlesnake
Golden Poison Dart Frog

I think that this is a realistic roster

I've said this before and I'll say it again, my mind will be absolutely blown if we actually get the sifaka and no New World primate. But I mean is Frontier really going to add a sifaka, baboon, NW monkey, and tree roo all in one pack? Oh and throw in the coati too. I can't imagine them adding that many primates/arboreal animals in one pack. Like the brachiation and prehensile tail animations are right there for a spider monkey. And the howler monkeys don't even brachiate so that would probably be easier (I'm a zoologist not a game developer, so if I'm wrong lmk). But instead we allegedly get a lemur that moves like nothing else in game that needs so many need animations.
Which brings me to another point, which no shade to Frontier, but I'm scared about the sifakas locomotion animations. Maybe Frontier experimented with the new AI technology for their animations, but how are they going to navigate their climbing frames in an even semirealistic way with how janky climbing is in PZ. They litterally jump like 7 meters in an upright position in very fast spurts. If we get slow motion jumps like the cats in game it's going to be very disappointing.
But again, I may be fretting over nothing. Like for crying out loud, all this fretting of the Planco dictionary of all things could be for absolutely nothing. Also, no shade to sifakas, they are actually my favorite lemurs and would love to have them, but not at the expense of my spider monkeys. I got to intern at a zoo with both howler and spider monkeys this summer and I need at least one in game!

I mean i personally always thought that getting two primates in the final pack was not that likely to begin with, so i expected it to basicly be a baboon vs howler situation. So i was pretty surprised when everyone started threwing this dictionary pack around that apperently has two primates. And i was even more surprised, well flabbergasted really, when neither of those two was a nw monkey.
Ofcourse thats assuming the dictionary thing turns out correctly and we will get the baboon and the sifaka.

I just really, really hope the baboon atleast makes it into the pack. Because after years of begging for monkeys they send of the game with a final pack including one primate, and its the sifaka then i really dont know if im supposed to laugh or cry 😂

I mean after all this time of monkeys being super underepresented and ditched in every pack, even in those where they would be perfect fits and the logical thing to add or even literally the highest requested animal for the theme, i guess i kinda made my peace with the fact their representation will just stay abyssmal forever.

Now you've gone and done it. The final DLC will be called the "Old World Animal Pack" and everyone will be sitting around waiting for the New World Animal Pack to follow. When Christmas comes and goes, they'll say, "Well, the Old World Pack took months to get here...let's keep waiting!"

PZ2 will drop in November 2026 and folks here will still be waiting for that mythical New World Animal Pack.

Thinking about it, the climbing system in PZ has been super janky from the start. A lot of us (myself included) have kind of accepted that flying birds and fish are being held back for a sequel that can do them justice; I have to wonder if it's not the same deal for small monkeys. Maybe Frontier doesn't believe the standard of monkey they can make right now is good enough. Or maybe the climbing system is just too annoying to work with and they've given up on it beyond the basics. Then again, they gave us two gibbons, which some of us thought was unlikely, so who knows?

In any case I'm expecting there to be at least one New World monkey in the PZ2 base roster. Probably the white-faced capuchin.

Honestly, if we didnt get the announcement tomorrow I really think we'll get it Wednesday before/during the stream. I could see Frontier announcing the pack on stream, especially if it is the last pack. Maybe that makes sense since they're dropping the next bundle tomorrow.

Side note: It would be cool if they dropped that last DLC on console and PC at the same time for the whole community to experience it together. Doubt they'll do it though.
Im not waiting until march 2025

Maybe? But we did get plenty of climbing animals, the smaller cats or raccoons for example. To be fair most of these were more semiarboreal instead of basicly fully arboreal like alot of monkeys are.
But you could have gone a similar route with monkeys aswell, like there are plenty of good options for monkeys that spend alot of time on the ground that you could have used instead, like patas monkey in grasslands, grey langur or different macaques in eurasia or yes, hamadryas in arid.
The argument of not wanting to do highly arboreal animals because the climbing system is kinda janky is a valid one that i can kinda see (But id still rather have the animals with a little jank than not having them at all). But than they pretty clearly showed that apperently it isnt a valid reason to them since they did the siamang, which is pretty much as arboreal as it gets and even doubled down on it with the lar gibbon.

I dont think they would emphasize the stream this much and tease us this much just to have a tiny 20 second teaser on stream.
I keep going back and forth on what the PZ-related content of the stream might be. And I do feel like we need to be prepared for it to not be quite as big or as much time as folks may be thinking. The stream happens on (a) the day the new console DLC drops, and (b) the same week that console gets a physical copy of the game.

So they'll definitely be devoting time to that. And then there's the PZ PC news... I have no clue. :ROFLMAO: If the trailer and/or free update info drops in advance? It could just be a re-hash of that. They might reveal something during the stream (which seems unlikely to me). Or they may just say "Hey, we told you ones coming and there is - we promise - just give us a bit more time!" Or some odd combination of any of those. Haha. Could go a lot of different ways.

Point being: A few of those 'options' could be covered very quickly. So between that news plus the console stuff they've got going on this week? The hype would make sense, and they'll still be devoting a bit of time to PZ across platforms, even if the PC portion is relatively brief. And mind you, the PC portion of the livestream can be pretty short and we'll still get the best news ever! Hah. ;) It took them like, 10 seconds to assuage people's stress about the Barnyard pack and let us know that the pack we're now anticipating would be coming!

It's also very funny that this post could be fully irrelevant within like, the next 8 hours. LOL

This thought crossed my mind as well. I'm with you in that I'm not thinking there's another pack coming but... I'm hoping that whatever details we get about the next DLC lead us to (B) thinking it's the end (e.g., bigger than usual, Zookeeper collection), or (B) thinking there's one more because it would pair with another pack (e.g., Old World pack theme) and they outright tell us that it's one of two.

Not on the hype train for that yet, but the logic logics and I'd be totally down. Haha.

I definitely think it's possible that there's a Latin American species or two in the mix! Maybe more. As much as the dictionary is a decent source of information, and I do believe that it's a reasonable source for speculation, there's no guarantee that it's complete (some animals may not have been added to the dictionary yet) or that all of them will wind up in the DLC ultimately (maybe secretary bird and dik-dik are in but none of the other species are; just an example).

Lots of different ways it can go and I really would find it strange for them to fully ignore Latin America... Especially considering the hype around the coati.

Markhor and Sifaka are way too specific

There's a huge step between a single behaviour of a binturong hanging upside down and prehensile tail behaviours. You'd have to basically add an entire set of behaviours to do that, which is in stark contrast with changing a few animations for existing behaviours when it comes to a sifaka.

Sifaka's are most certainly easier to do than spider monkeys. Will they be perfect? Probably not, but their typical gait is much easier to pull off than to integrate prehensile tails into the entire climbing system.

I was sure there was an scarlet ibis mod and now i can't find it :(
I made a document on my computer with a list of about 300 mods that I'm interested in and I've got the American White Ibis but not the scarlet one. I remember having seen it a very long time ago though so I think it has been deleted for a while now. Why? I don't know because they are the same, just in different colors.

The thread today is very quiet-- am I the only person who defo thinking we getting the news today...? cause if we thinking about it idk how likely is that for frontier to actually announce the DLC in the Livestream cuz first it would be kinda late, second, don't forget that the content creators also always like releasing their videos the same time as the trailer comes out.
