I just saw the stream and screenshots. I'm pretty excited! I think it's a highlands animal pack with the decor, but an Asian animal pack could have some nice possibilities, too.
  • Hamadryas baboon: They aren't in my personal top 25, but they're in the top 10 or 20 list of animals I think should be added regardless of my personal biases. An arid monkey will be fun and different to build for. Baboons are such a basic ABC animal. It'll be nice to finally get one.
  • Pallas's cat: I'm so excited about this animal! The angle for the art looks a bit odd, but I'm sure it will look better in the game. Grumpy cat is here! It will be fun to build for, and I will use it often.
  • Markhor: This is my favorite goat. They were in ZT1 and ZT2, so it's a great nostalgia pick. I love their swirly horns, and I'm also glad Pakistan is getting a cool icon. I want a break from hoofstock, but this one was one of 2 in my personal top 25.
  • African Leopard: I burst out laughing when I saw this. I've long thought this was the single species where the opinions on the forums and those of the wider audience likely differed the most. It was originally the most requested leopard, and I've seen many people asking about it or wondering why it isn't here yet on other channels. It is extremely prevalent in nature documentaries and completes Africa's big 5 even if it has a lower zoo presence. It is also the large carnivore in Africa's jungles. I see it as a solid choice that I wouldn't have wanted to pay for. Like other people, there are quite a few animals I would have preferred, but it works as an anniversary animal. If they were going to continue DLC support for another 1-2 years, I figured it would show up eventually. This is one of the better ways to get it.
For other likely animals, I'm hoping for a tree kangaroo and a spectacled bear. I'll be watching their pages to see what comes next.

I didn't watched the stream and i sure didn't read the many pages in this thread that came with it, so i want to know: are the pieces part of the anniversary update or part of the pack?
Pieces aren't technically confirmed, but in the banner art for the new pack there are chinese lanterns and tibetan flag banners that people are going on

Oh ok because if they are related to the pack then yes mountain/highlands animal pack, but if not then they make sensei for the anniversary update. They are all "celebration/festive" ítems.

I’ve never really understood everyone’s fixation on the Himalayan monal. It’s not a broadly well known species, hasn’t appeared in any other prominent zoo games (which is no doubt where at least some portion of the secretarybird’s popularity comes from, for instance), and I wasn’t under the impression that they’re all that common in zoos. Am I wrong on that last point, or missing something else? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any issues with it, I just don’t get what makes it seemingly more popular than, say, the golden pheasant.

I’ll also suggest Andean tinamou as a long shot bird inclusion.

Honestly the African Leopard feels like an animal they made long ago but it just never fit into any of the packs, or it didn't make any roster because of other animal choices. So might as well release it as an anniversary animal rather than waste it.

Is just a very stunning bird. And lives in the Himalayas, so that's enough for being front line in a mountains pack. But any pheasants would do. I personally would prefer Golden pheasant but monal is very pretty and if the do the iridiscent feathers justice it would be an amazing addition to the bird's roster.

I’m fairly happy with the pack so far — not thrilled but satisfied. I would’ve preferred a Latin America pack but this theme is second best. It’s unlikely I’ll ever use the cat or markhor as they don’t really fit into the zoos I like to build but I’m very happy to see the baboon. I’m curious to see what the other animals are. I feel like the smaller ungulate looks like a female bighorn sheep which wouldn’t be a bad addition for me.

As for the African leopard, I’m grateful for it and will probably use it as a generic leopard which many zoos do keep.

For me, my local zoo has always had a pair of himalayan monals and I've went to see them every summer since I was little. Something about the coloring just has always really appealed to me and it is now one of my favorite animals

it could be but on the other side these animals would also fit a zookeepers pack and to be fair. I dont see Mountains or highlands but I do see a zookeeper. Your guess is as good as mine
Any animal can fit "Zookeper pack", so for that to be a theme it would need to be more focused on that aspect.

If a pack has three mountainous animals, cliff edge and mountain decorations on the cover art, then the theme is most likely mountains

Ok I realised.
The marmot isn't the problem.
It's the pack's theme.
Mountains are just... kind of boring as a whole. They're not very varied in terms of wildlife, and there are only so many unique animals you can have in a mountain pack without inevitably running into another clone.
A yak? That's just another cow
A Markhor? As much as I love this animal, it's our 3rd goat
A spectacled bear? It's just another bear which we have plenty of already.
A marmot? It's just the most boring parts of a beaver and prairie dog combined.

But really, what other options do we have? More goats? More sheep? Another feline? There isn't any unique animal type that we don't have already (aside from the baboon that we're getting here) so these are our very limited and boring options.
I'll say this again:
Stuff that WE DON'T ALREADY HAVE.
We already have a domestic cattle breed that lives in the mountains, which is why I would never want a yak.
We already have like 6 bears.
We already have Dall sheep, Ibex, Takin, and now we're getting Markhor, which is why I think something like a Barbary sheep would be boring.
We already have llama AND alpaca, which is why I'd hate to get a vicuna or guanaco.
Himalayan Monal is kind of a boring bird and I don't really see myself building whole habitats just for that, but oh well at least it's the only vaguely interesting animal that has been suggested here.
(Marmot is an animal I heavily dislike IRL plus it's just a beaver stripped down of its most interesting features, that is swimming and building dams.)
What about the hyrax and tree Kangaroo, those are like nothing else we have.
YeeeEEAAAaah, I agree but, I dunno, it's weird to sell a "mountain pack" with "tropical" vibes, you see ?
I mean Sloth Bear was in Eurasia Pack, which was very winter themed, plus the Baboon in the dlc is a arid animal and mountains are not typically known for that.
